Leaderboard now up to date as of Turkish GP. Barrichello jumps from 21st to joint-12th in the leaderboard, level with Alonso, overtaking Button, Coulthard, R Schumacher, Webber, Rosberg, Frentzen, Michelin and Hamilton. He's certainly showing Germans and Britons the rejects way...

AFAIC, a continuation of an entry is the same team. But oh well.

He was 2nd on the 2008 Reject of the Year Podium. He was very high in the 2001 and 2004 rankings and he'd be in the top 5 in my 2000 rankings. To be fair he's never deserved ROTY because people have always done worse. I wouldn't give him ROTY for 2009 provisionally because he's drove alright this year, at least compared to Piquet and Bourdais.

Well, if he hasn't, that would make him the winner of most Reject of the Race awards never to have won a Reject of the Year award. Is that a negative or a positive record?

It's positive. It means Giancarlo has to have done some good stuff in between the bad races...

Leaderboard now up to date as of British GP. Formula Elaborate Bluff makes its debut in joint-39th place, there are now 40 people/organizations/things tied for that position...

Leaderboard now up to date as of German GP. Kimi Raikkonen moves up from joint-4th place to the joint lead, level with Fisichella.

Leaderboard now up-to-date as of Hungarian GP. "Bits falling off cars" makes its debut on the leaderboard in joint-39th place. There are now 90 different (people who /things which) have received RotRs - I wonder when the number will reach 100...?

I'm loving the 39th place. It's getting notorious, even though it may soon become 40th place.

Leaderboard now up to date as of Belgian GP. We have two new additions to the huge tie for 39th place: Luca Badoer and Kimi Raikkonen's KERS. The list of 39th-place people/teams/things now stretches on too long to all be visible at the same time on my computer monitor, even on full screen mode!

Leaderboard now up to date as of Italian GP. Heikki Kovalainen's first solo RotR (having had 2 shared ones previously) vaults him up from 81st to joint-28th (level with Jarno Trulli). This turns the huge tie for 39th place into a huge tie for 40th place, as was speculated might happen recently...

Leaderboard now up to date as of Japanese GP. Adrian Sutil jumps up from jont 36th to 22nd on the leaderboard, while Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguesuari make their debuts in joint 82nd place, level with Jamie McGregor, Enoch Yan-Tak Law, Ron Dennis and Flavio Briatore.

Leaderboard now up to date as of Brazilian GP. Jarno Trulli jumps from joint 29th to 22nd in the rankings, breaking the tie that Heikki Kovalainen had only recently established. One of the 7.5 drivers he leapfrogged ahead of was Adrian Sutil, whose collision lead to him becoming RotR...

Leaderboard now up to date as of Abu Dhabi GP. Giancarlo Fisichella reclaims his position as outright leader, breaking the tie with Raikkonen, as mentioned on the podcast.

Leaderboard up to date as of Australian GP. 2010 season over-hyping makes its debut in joint 40th place, while Mark Webber jumps up from joint 16th to joint 10th place, level with Felipe Massa.

I just noticed that Jenson Button is the only driver to have both an ROTY award and a world championship, is there any hope of another driver completing such a rare double?

In answer to my own question, Michael Schumacher might just be able to do it if he continues his lacklustreness (is that even a word?).

Damon Hill would have been quite a strong candidate for ROTY in 1999 if there had been such an award. Well, a battle with Alex Zanardi.

Talking of Villeneuve his late BAR/Sauber years were very reject worthy. Finally, I think Mansell in 1995 would've been odds on for ROTY!

I doubt many of them would have been RotY. Senna & Schumi's collisions, however bad they were, were just one incident. You don't get RotY for one incident. They would have been certain RotRs but I doubt they would have been RotY. (Although, to be fair, nothing like them has happened since the site was created, so it's impossible to know for sure). As for Masnell, again I doubt it, because he only drove in 2 races in 95, which normally isn't enough to be rated. (Like Kobayashi and Badoer last year). Although, to be fair, knowing Jamie & Enoch's feelings towards Mansell, they may well have made an exception!

He didn't get RotY.

Piquet got RotY pretty much due to Singapore.

Perhaps it played a part, but you have to remember that his driving was pretty rubbish throughout the season, so that Renault sacked him even before Singapore was known about. (Indeed, the reason he snitched about Singapore was to avenge his sacking). Schumacher and Senna on the other hand, were actually good in most of the races apart from the collisions. So there's a big difference. Don't get me wrong, it would quite likely have lowered their ranking, (Jerez 97 is why most rankings I've seen elsewhere rate Villeneuve as the driver of the year for 97, even though Schumacher did better in just about every other race, and rightly so), but to send them right to the bottom because of one incident seems a bit over the top to me. But of course it's open to debate.

He was already doing badly in 2008 although he had some good drives there. Hockenheim was lucky 2nd place but at least that time he kept it on the road. Fuji was also good one. In 2009 he didn't do anything good really. But I would say the Monaco crash was Buemi's fault.

I'd split it both ways, and still place most of the blame at Piquet's doorstep. But it was his rant about Buemi's lack of experience that did it for me.
