Count it for the DFV. I'm voting for reliability
After all, 1981 was known about smoking turbos and the triumph of DFVs. Well.... partly

But this is 1983... all of the title contenders had turbos...

Nothing is wrong with power. Who cares about reliability? It's quite useless if you DNQ.

Thats my philosphy. Its worth having a quick car to catch the eye of sponsors when you're a start up team. Also, as Shadow in your virtual F1 have proved, you can buy all the reliability upgrades under the sun, and you'll still DNF more often than not in this era

This is a brand new team and it was proved several times that buying the best equipment in itself is not enough to be competitive. Steady team building is more important, and for that, Cosworth is more than enough. In my opinion at least. We have no chance of winning races among normal circumstances, only to become a steady midfielder, and for that, there is no better choice than the cheap and reliable DFV.

Still, a good performance is imperative to attracting sponsors and funding. Regardless of how well-managed or how organized your team is, without sufficient funding, the team is only going to experience a death spiral of mediocre machinery and diminishing returns on the track. Moreover, it's fairly obvious that naturally aspirated engines are already obsolescent, and will only continue to be further outclassed by turbocharged engines.

January 8,1983
Mr.Travers had decided to keep his F1 ambitions secret until now, where he was currently sitting in a press conference announcing the deal of Hart engines that would be signed up to the team.It was not a terribly large one, with just a few reporters from the local news and magazines. However, one question in particular stung him: "What drivers do you have in mind to sign up for the team?"
Up until now,Mr. Travers seemed to have everything in plan.Get the chassis done through the month of January, test the car and seal some sponsorship in February before racing begins in March. Now,though,it looks like he would have to add driver searching into the month of January, and with several drivers already taken,he would have to do so fast.
ISSUE:What should Mr. Travers sign to drive in 1983?(Bank Balance:3.5 million)
Vote by naming any two drivers not yet taken(refer to last post on page 1). The driver who gets mentioned most will be offered first by the random number system. If the first driver fails the second driver is offered, and so on until one driver agrees to race for Empire in 1983.
There are 20 hours left to name your picks for driver of Empire Racing in 1983.Vote away!

It does not have to be anyone who drove in F1 in 1983,just those you think are good enough or fit to drive for Empire.

Well, in that case, I'm going to replace Johansson with Bellof, and keep Warwick.

I really think we should be considering the fact that this is a new team. Having a driver lineup with only a year (or less) of F1 experience between them is probably not the best idea. We'd be a lot better off if we had one driver who is a solid points scorer. Like Marc Surer.

I do have misgivings about assembling a dream team, like pairing Bellof and Senna together. Those two are probably going to score a handful of spectacular results, vocalize their frustrations with the car and the team very publicly, feud with each other, then leave the team at the end of the season, if not during the middle of the season. I'd advocate for one prodigious driver (e.g. Bellof) to occupy a race seat, and have a competent, prudent and consistent driver (Warwick, Johansson) as his teammate.

Surer would be a better bet. Warwick has a couple unspectacular seasons under his belt with the Toleman, while Surer has 3 seasons and has rarely DNQ'd. Johansson, at this point, has 2 entries and 2 DNQs to his name.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Empire Racing only has one entry for 1983 like ATS or Spirit if you see some of the previous posts. I am letting you name two drivers in order to get a wider range in offers and add more variety into the offers. Also,Backmarker,I doubt Pironi can still race in 1983 after that crash in Hockenheim, especially when even racing in 1986 was not suitable for him.Anyway, voting can still continue.

January 12,1983.
Thomas Travers has been pacing around all day, looking through sources, notebooks and whatnots to look for ways to find drivers for Empire Racing. Looking through previous results, junior formulae and other stuff,he finally compiled a list of drivers he would want to sign. Top of the list was Stefan Bellof, who won the Formula Two race last year at Silverstone, which Mr.Travers just happened to attend.Heck,he might was well go all out to get him.Up next was a very promising youngster coming straight out of Formula Ford called Ayrton Senna, though Mr. Travers doubted that he will suit well to the sudden change in machinery. On almost equal priority after Senna was Marc Surer. Surer, unlike the other two, has had previous Formula One experience with Ensign,ATS and Arrows, and was a respectable name to sign. Other names on his list were Derek Warwick,Stefan Johansson and Martin Brundle, among others.
No issue to vote on yet,but the "driver negotiations stage" will commence, using the random number generator thingy.Negotiations start from the person with the most votes (Bellof),then if Bellof does not agree, the person with the second mose amount of votes (Senna) will be determined, and so on down the line.People with the same amount of votes will have their order determined by who reached that number of votes first. For reference, here is the order of negotiations:
Stefan Bellof
Ayrton Senna
Marc Surer
Derek Warwick
Martin Brundle
Stefan Johansson
Thierry Boutsen
Teo Fabi
Corrado Fabi
Piercarlo Ghinzani
Mario Andretti
Rick Mears
Jody Scheckter/Jacques Villeneuve Sr.
Let the negotiations....BEGIN!
