Only been to Silverstone once but the one advice I can give is: Just enjoy the day. Don't worry about what the positions are, who's retired or who's winning. I went in 2005 and didn't know the result until I text my dad after the race and he gave me the top 10. Of course there's screens and obviously people will be near you with a portable TV or a radio, but just forget about that and enjoy the cars going past.

Toro Rossos are the fastest on the track in FP2 in the drying conditions with about 70 minutes until the chequered flag, but Nico Rosberg, who had a woeful race here last year, is just behind them in third.

Hopefully Perez has a set-up issue or something, otherwise he could end up taking ROTR as his pace is so poor. In the MLP, Bianchi currently leads and is ahead of Checo and the Iceman. Max is the slowest in the field bar Massa.

Well, Pérez is 17th Bianchi is ahead of him. I think Chilton is 22nd now. But Pérez can be an early candidate for ROTR or ROTW (Reject of the Weekend).

On NBC's coverage, Will Buxton was saying that VDG could be replaced by Kovalainen before the end of this season. I'm all for it.

Phew. Perez is now 13th, ahead of Button. The Williams are back to being the slowest of the midfield teams. Bianchi heads the MLP.
Rosberg is fastest and with the teams doing long runs, the order is unlikely to change.

Just to add to the earlier comments about Morris leaving Sauber, it transpires that Morris will be moving to McLaren to take up Tim Goss's former role as Engineering Director (with Goss having taken over Lowe's former role as Technical Director). Although he is due to start work at McLaren as soon as his contract with Sauber is wound up, it appears that McLaren are hiring him with an eye on 2015 as part of their preparations for the arrival of Honda.

Ladies and Gents unsure if it has been mentioned or not on here yet but rumours about Heikki coming back to replace Geido full time doing the rounds at the moment do not know how much substance there is behind this as I thought Giedo was bringing in sponsorship?

Honest opinion on something to Chilton how do you actually rate him? know he is a rookie but very worrying he is behind that much

Kovi is fine, but why bother in a rubbish car? Meanwhile, i have neither heard nor seen anything awfull from VDG, just a rookie in a rookie season. He says "obviously" less than others which makes him more likeable as well.

So far McLaren and Lotus have been boasting of upgrades... and will probably regret it.

There had been a few rumours earlier in the season suggesting that Heikki might replace one of the current drivers, particularly around the Bahrain and Spanish GP's when Heikki drove the car in the practise sessions to evaluate the upgrade packages that Caterham introduced around that time.
There had been an indication from some quarters that the team were a little concerned that the lack of an experienced driver was costing them in terms of performance and that they were considering whether reinstating Heikki might have delivered a strong enough result to compensate for the loss in sponsor income (van der Garde does bring in sponsorship), but for now it looks like they are sticking to their current line up.

Lotus do at least look a bit better on a long run - Kimi is perhaps a little further down than you'd normally expect because, as far as I am aware, he did not do that many laps on the softer tyre. We'll see what tomorrow shows, since the teams are probably going to be able to get some faster runs in during FP3.

Ferrari and Lotus will probably be hoping for the warmer weather that is predicted for Tomorrow and Sunday. They can't seem to be getting the tires up to temperature as quickly as Mercedes and Red Bull for example. If Qualifying produces a similar story then that will compromise their race

Yeah, I was about to say that. Cold tyres don't do anything good for quali, so we'll see what happens. They'll have to make the best of it.

Just out of curiosity, could you also give a little feedback on how the cars seem to be behaving on track as well? It'd be interesting to see if you're able to pick up on signs of instability or handling problems.

Depends where i'll be sitting as i still don't know where i will be sitting. But if i get a good place i'll do that for you. Also i look for who does the most rejectful thing in front of my eyes. It also depends if i get internet access too

Yes I was wondering that myself about how to keep up to date with the results. Would they show the Sky broadcast on a tv? I really have no idea, but was already thinking I'd just enjoy the sights and sounds, and I'm hoping Maldonado has his inevitable off near my corner.

Also, just noticed we both have a Spyker as a profile picture

I expect you'll be able to pick up various parts of the race if your staying in the same spot all race. I went on a bronze pass for £60 which allowed me to walk wherever around the outside of the track and the only reason why I didn't as the time to ask people was because I was constantly moving from one corner to another. I don't know if the official Sky coverage will be in the screens but it will show uninterrupted coverage throughout.

And as for the Spyker avatar's, I'm sure you'll agree that car is one of the most attractive cars from the last decade. Reminds me of the Orange Arrows from 1999/2002.

About the van der Garde and Kovalainen swap, I simply don't see it happening now that I think of it. I don't think Kovalainen would take returning to Caterham as an answer to revive his career and won't really do anything good for him. Yeah, van der Garde has been up to weird antics and had a few heroics, but he's too inconsistent, and I question whether Kovalainen will keep up any consistency with the team after being away for a while, and his last season at McLaren was up and down.

Not sure how accurate this is, but Monza '09 I think was the worst McLaren race he may have ever had.

FP3 is underway at Silverstone.

Now there is a rather unnecessary graphic that shows 'facts', such as that Paul di Resta is the highest placed driver in the championship without a podium.

Pirelli suffer yet another failure on Pérez's car. The red flag is out.

Max Chilton is shown as having done a hotlap of just over 15 minutes... did he just jog round the track?

The Saubers look like they are the slowest team other than Marussia and Caterham, as they are 16th and 17th and only just ahead of Pic.

Mercedes quickest in FP3, Rosberg then Hamilton and second quickest are the Red Bulls, Vettel from Webber.
