2015Max Verstappen was grabbing all the headlines this year for a number of reasons, but Felipe Nasr was the one quietly leading the way for much of the season. However, Verstappen was able to eat into Nasr's lead (at one point the gap between them was 75 points!) as the year went on and took the lead in the penultimate race. Verstappen had a mistake-laden race in Abu Dhabi, and post-race time penalty for ignoring blue flags dropped him behind Nasr in the final classification. It didn't matter though, as the Dutchman still held a seven-point lead on the Brazilian GP2 graduate and became Toro Rosso's fifth rookie champion. Interestingly, this is the closest points gap in the rookie championship since 1993, when Rubens Barrichello similarly eroded Michael Andretti's tally in the closing stages, though in that case it was due to Andretti not being there to protect his lead

2. Felipe Nasr 317 pts.
3. Carlos Sainz, Jr. 244 pts.
