There was great excitement as the F1 teams returned from their winter breaks as all twenty teams unveiled their new machines for the upcoming season. Jean Alesi sent out an ominous warning sign that he and his Williams-Renault will be the ones to beat by going half a second quicker than the impressive Pierluigi Martini in second for Arrows-Honda. AGS put the new Mugen-Honda engine to good use with 16th & 20th, with Benetton-Ford having a much tougher time than expected in 17th & 21st. At the back of the field, the new Andrea Moda team had a solid first test with neither car setting the slowest time, a dishonor that went to Giovanna Amati in the Lambo.
