Checo was classified in Bahrain but didn't see the flag IIRC. Russell, Hamilton and Ocon are the only 3 still in at this point.

I forgot whether you had to finish to continue, or just be classified. It makes sense that you have to finish to continue. My money's on Russell for 2022...

2012 - Räikkönen dominates at the end of a closely contested season



There were no clear favourites at the beginning of the season because there were six different winners in the first six races. Rosberg and Webber later found themselves in a strong position to finally win the Endurance championship, but they were later on eliminated, along with Alonso, who was aiming for his second championship. After a competitive start to the season it saw Räikkönen going on to win the last six races and claim his first Endurance title.



2013 - Hamilton goes up against Chilton for this years championship fight



Vettel and Räikkönen, our 2011 and 2012 champions, both had a fantastic start to the season and were obviously looking for their second championship, but after they were eliminated, it came down to just Hamilton and Chilton. Unsurprisingly, Hamilton went on to win each of his races against Chilton.

The championship battle was over quickly since Hamilton had already gathered enough points after winning the Korean Grand Prix to claim his second championship. Hamilton crashed out at the next race, but it didn't matter because Chilton could no longer earn enough points for the championship anyway. In the end Chilton finished just 10 points behind Hamilton after winning the final 5 races.

2014 - Despite winning 8 races, Rosberg still fails to win the championship



By winning the first eight races and amassing 200 points, Rosberg dominated the first half of the season. However, gearbox problems at the British Grand Prix caused him to be eliminated. Then, Alonso won the next four races, and in Belgium, he overtook Rosberg as the championship leader.

This happened just in time for Alonso, as he was also eliminated at the following race in Italy due to engine problems with his car. Alonso is now a 2 time Endurance champion. You have to feel sorry for Rosberg because this is the third time now that he has come pretty close to winning the championship.

2015 - A number of drivers find themselves in the title hunt



We had an exciting first half of the season to watch because reliability was actually pretty good this year, at least for nearly half of the grid, but it all came to an abrupt end within just five races six drivers were eliminated, meaning no one could make up ground in the points and Hamilton won his third championship.



2016 - Ricciardo dominates with 15 wins



Rosberg had a strong start to the season, winning the first four races, but a crash involving both himself and Hamilton in Spain radically altered the championship. Later, when it was just Bottas and Ricciardo left, Bottas was powerless to stop Ricciardo in the quicker car.

Bottas was eliminated in Singapore, and Ricciardo finished the season with 15 victories, falling just short of Schumacher's record of 16 victories in a single season set in 2002.



2017 - Hamilton sets a new record by winning the Endurance Championship four times



Hamilton had another spectacular season, winning 12 races, finishing the entire season, shattering previous records, and is currently the most successful driver in the history of the Endurance Championship. Vettel and Ocon deserve recognition for their excellent performance this season as well.



2018 - Once again, Hamilton and Vettel compete for the championship



Hamilton and Vettel had a very competitive season, winning races along the way, but at the halfway mark, everyone had been eliminated, and Vettel emerged as the champion of the season.

2019 - Hamilton wins his fifth championship and equals Schumacher's record of 16 victories in a season



Several drivers made it at least to the halfway point of the season, and Vettel was able to remain competitive for the majority of the year. Hamilton, though, dominated this year and added another Endurance title to his tally.



2020 - Hamilton wins his sixth Endurance Championship as he keeps shattering records



This year, drivers are now given an extra point for the fastest lap. The F indicates who received the point on the spread sheet below.



2021 - Sainz, Giovinazzi, and Ricciardo compete against six-time champion Hamilton



Despite winning nine races to start the season, Hamilton was eliminated in Italy. It was now up to Sainz, Ricciardo, and Giovinazzi to make up ground on Hamilton and prevent him from capturing his seventh championship.

Giovinazzi didn't win a race and didn't earn enough points to even catch Hamilton, while Ricciardo won two races but was eliminated too early to have a chance. Sainz, who is now our new Endurance champion, went on to win seven races and easily overtook Hamilton in the points standings.

Note: The race in Belgium didn't have a fastest lap rewarded in real life so wasn't rewarded here either.

Well Ocon did retire this race, so it's gonna be a question if Lewis can finish enough races to get past Russell and then it's a wrap.

Oh yeah, Ocon did DNF didn't he. So it's down to Lewis now.

Both George Russell and Esteban Ocon were eliminated from the competition at the British Grand Prix. This means that Lewis Hamilton is the only driver left, but he is still 8 points behind his teammate, so if he can finish at the upcoming race in Austria, he will be able to win his seventh Endurance Championship.

Yeah with only one accident-related retirement so far this season, Mercedes has proven to be incredibly reliable. As a result, they have been able to gain points from Ferrari and Red Bull's retirements too.

2022 - Lewis Hamilton becomes a six-time Endurance Champion



Even though we've known since the race in Austria Hamilton was this years champion, it's now official since today he retired at the race in Belgium.

Pointless Endurance Championship Fact of The Day: Hamilton retired on the 14th race of the season last year and again on the 14th race this year after making contact with Alonso who uses the number 14

The recent race in Bahrain saw the elimination of Esteban Ocon, Charles Leclerc, and Oscar Piastri. Now down to 17 drivers left.

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix saw Albon and Stroll being eliminated. Verstappen's fastest lap today allows him to lead the championship by 1 point over Perez.
