It's inspired me to go back to my own wee championship I had running a few years back just for the hell of it, though that was a pretty poor xkoranate effort at the time and nowt compared to this. Might fire up the old F1 Challenge and make a real go of it if anyone could give me a few pointers as to modding etc.
Welcome to the forum! Yes, as Ataxia already mentioned I currently run two different series on F1C, so if you need some help with starting a series I'm glad to help!

Super, I'm glad the interest is there then.
After uni breaks up for summer, I'll get going on that. I'll try and make it as immersive as possible, and another feature would be that drivers "depreciate" with age as well as poor results, but older drivers often provide greater depth of feedback in testing.
I'll finalise all of the features when we get going.

Well, I guess this is the general PMMF discussion thread for now, so here goes:
ftp://87.229.14.12/hsw/That FTP has a huge variety of various files for most major racing sims, including but not limited to: F1 Challenge 99-02, rFactor, Grand Prix 2, Grand Prix 4, GT-R 2 and Nascar Racing 2003. So if you're looking for something specific, paying a visit there might be helpful.

Yes, now I think about it, it's quite insane how much detail has been built up in this forum. Back stories, almost-but-not-quites, feuds, fights, generations, it really is almost like real life Formula One. The even more impressive thing is having 10 or so series linked together, pretty much all of which have waiting lists to get in, they've become so popular.
Quite a few series here are run using xkoranate, but it hasn't stopped them getting a decent number of entires. IIRC the IndyCar Series, F1RSTC and Warped TC are all run using it. However, if you can formulate some sort of original series using F1C (an IFRC feeder perhaps?), I can guarantee you will get people queuing around the block to get an entry.
We were almost reaching the point where F1R was diversifying into other sports outside motor racing. There was a very good ProTour Cycling series run by Shadaza, which unfortunately he decided to stop running half way through its first full season. Which was a shame, as it was one of my favourites. I was also very close to launching an F1 Rejects Premier League (football), but when I realised just how daunting a task it would be to keep it running properly, I pretty much gave up. It would take more than one real life season to complete one virtual season. Which just isn't practical at all. It was a big, great idea, lots of functionality, but it's not something that can really be done properly in an offline championship. So bear that in mind too, it doesn't always have to be a racing series.
But, if you are going to enter this crazy world of Reject virtual racing, there is one thing you must know. Take notice of Scuderia Alitalia. As the saying goes;
We're in everything.
A F1RPL would have been awesome - an incredibly difficult undertaking no doubt, but with Football Manager's editing capabilities a superb prospect.
For now I think it'd just be a single user non-canon championship using my old teams/characters, just to get my sea legs as it were for using the software, spinning an interesting storyline and whatnot (maybe videos with a spot of commentary if possible). Would definitely be open to running a feeder series once I'm used to it all - with a spot available for Scuderia Alitalia naturally.

Looks like you're the very chap to get a hold of when I have a bit more time over the weekend. F1C does indeed seem to be the program I'm looking for - more detailed graphics than GP2 and able to run a larger field than GP4. Hopefully it isn't too difficult.

Just one question- does it contain the actual files for the games (i.e. can I download and play straight onto the computer) or it just patches and custom liveries?

It does not contain the games themselves, because that would obviously be copyright infringement and bring the FTP down pretty soon. It only has mods, cars, liveries, tracks and the ilk.

Has anyone ever run a tournament based on amateur drivers just starting out in their careers?
They'd have a very limited amount of cash to purchase a used car (with all the pitfalls that that could entail!), any leftovers would be used to repair or improve it, and then they can start entering it in races.
Of course, if you crash your car you're gonna be in big trouble finance-wise, but if you win races early you can quickly amass an income to purchase a better vehicle.
Yeah, it sounds like Gran Turismo to me too, but seriously, has it been done and if not would anyone be interested?
I'd be up for running it, but ideally I'd like to see someone else's system for simulating races (preferably using dice and modifiers) and modify it to suit first as it seems like a pretty big thing to start from scratch.

As the guy who came up with such a system, I can confirm that it's pretty big to start from scratch. The best thing to do is to start off simply, then as you get more used to running such a series, start implementing more elements to add realism. If you do everything at once, you'll get very lost. Trust me.

Yep, I used a similar system as well for my short-lived management game, but started off with quite a lot of realism, and it took me upwards of four hours to simulate a 50 lap race with 20 cars. As tommykl said, start simple, otherwise you'll spend forever on it.

New series ahoy!
Many trial and error series by myself in the past have shown me the one error I made across the board; overcomplication. The formats were too complex and required too much time to process. Simplify and succeed. But it'll be participation rather than managerial again. Nope, TMRRC isn't making a comeback...

I'm considering to run a pre-war series, set in the early 1920's. It would be run with the same results generator I'm using for my 1978 season.

Ahoy!
Some of you may remember last year I ran a pro cycling series. After a trial Tour de France, the first series began in proper and 17 teams entered. Unfortunatly due to time restraints and other personal issues, the series ran into a roadblock. However now I am back and I am willing to continue the series from where we left off.
I need to know how many people would be interested in taking part again and I am also willing to accept new teams to the competition.
http://www.f1rejects.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=5186&p=178042#p178042 This thread has the details about the sign up. The latest posts have the updated standings for both riders and teams for those interested.
I am mostly asking for feedback and interest, though one thing I must note is that I would not really be willing to start a new database from scratch. I have hundreds of riders already in place and I don't think there is much benefit in me spending hours starting all over again.
Within the hour of posting the revival on the thread already 2 of the 17 original teams (Hitachi and APB) Have expressed interest so the chances are good this series will resume

Some ideas for today:
a. A Race of Champions-esque series using the Apertura/Clausura elimination system with all the entratants named after characters from media (books, films, TV shows, video games, etc). Result will be generated using xkoranate, just like Warped Touring Car Series (which will be put on hold for a while).
b. A somewhat dystopian, NationStates-style, RP about the collapse and disbanding of the FIA and the rise of a new motorsport governing body, the
International Reject Motor Racing Assembly (other name ideas are also welcomed, either now or during the RP) after the corruption in the FIA WEC (mentioned in the Siemens Ausduaer Racing Series backstory) also spread into other FIA-administrated racing series, including Formula One. It went worse when FIA started to ban drivers involved with the Reject Council from participating in FIA-recognized series.
Thoughts?

Sammy Jones rules a destitute, corrupt dictatorship with no civil rights or freedoms, while Alessandro Linari runs a socialist haven where corporations are banned but a large military is required to defend against attacks from Jones?
Could be interesting. McAllister's Spanish Armada and Mori's Kido Butai could get in on the act as well.

Meanwhile, I'm considering running an xkoranate based alternate championship, with the same races as RL, but with test drivers instead of the racers used by the teams. Would anyone follow it? And more importantly, how do you edit driver attributes in xkoranate?

Ah no Jones has no connections with this, and if it's something that goes ahead (i.e. a series based on NationStates) then I'm only interested if it's non-canon and a separate universe to RWRS.
But His Excellency has no time for petty socialist nations, although he does like a bit of state ownership every now and then to make sure things are run the way he wants them!

Not sure if you guys have heard of the game show "The Amazing Race."

But the basic principle is teams of 2 compete on a race around the world over several legs, with teams being eliminated at the end of most of the legs.
In the show the winning team receives $1 million dollars. Whilst I can't provide that kind of reward (or any reward really

) I have created a test round for you guys to play if interested, with a very motorsport themed leg to keep things relevant. I'd just like to know if anybody would be interested to play (I would like somewhere between 10 and 12 teams). Basically the principle will be you have to make
decisions about what to do or where to go which cost time and the person with the lowest total time wins, the loser gets eliminated.

Here would be an example:
Welcome to the Brands Hatch Circuit in Kent, England. The circuit is famous for it's two layouts, the short indy circuit and the full grand prix circuit. Teams must race around either the full circuit or do double the amount of laps on the short. Pick one of the following cars:
Indy Circuit -
Jason Plato's MG BTCC - 20 laps
Matt Neals Honda BTCC - 20 laps
Rob Collards BMW BTCC - 20 laps
Richard Plant Porsche Super cup - 22 laps
Tom Sharp Ginetta GT - 24 laps
Full Circuit -
Gordon Shedden Honda BTCC - 10 laps
Frank Wrathell Toyota BTCC - 10 laps
Aron Smith Ford BTCC - 10 laps
Jonas Gelzins Porsche Super cup - 11 laps
Mark Davies Ginetta GT - 12 laps
Obviously the aim is to pick the quickest route!

A follow-up to this post I made in the ponderbox:
Cynon wrote:I'm thinking of starting a series here with NR2003, that will have videos of all the races, which will be done live on Twitch.tv with a GNLTV live race tracker if you don't want to hear me doing commentary.

It will be either the FIR Camaro Cup (see the image I posted earlier) or RejecTrucks, which will use the recently-released UK Pickup Truck bodies.
Canon status is debatable on either, and grid sizes... honestly I don't care if there are 10 on the grid or 30 on the grid.
I've opted for RejecTrucks, and the series will have live race broadcasts on Twitch.tv (though they will be uploaded to my YouTube channel afterwards, so you don't have to be there to see it) with as many GNLTV live trackers as well. I'm counting on an 8 race series to see if the concept actually works... with 6 of the 8 races being on ovals, though a lot of them would be on short tracks in North America, though visits to Adelaide and Mexico City are not out of the question. One or two of the tracks may be fictional, but the decision to use them is purely for eye candy reasons...
There are 6 manufacturers that could participate, SHP (British pickup truck manufacturer -- the models for this mod are based on the real life SHP trucks, which resemble ASA trucks in the States), Ford, Ram, Chevrolet, Toyota, and Holden, though the Holden is pretty ugly... if you want a decent looking GM brand, the Chevy Colorado is much nicer on the eyes.
Canon status is debatable, honestly, I'm not sure it will matter much, since I don't plan on going to any speedways outside of Chicagoland.

How many people own a copy of Audiosurf? I just had an idea for a really unusual championship...
Just for teh lulz, I tried feeding the engine revs from an Aston Martin DBR9 at Monza through the game to see what would happen. It's surprisingly representative in the game. The fast stuff is...well, really fast. It's more like changing the manner in which skill is rewarded. Getting the lines right score you more points, not make you go any faster.
There's all manner of onboard videos out there, so there could be any amount of tracks and cars - an
RX-8 GT at Watkins Glen, a
Porsche 997 GT3 RSR at Adria,
a Ferrari 641 at Suzuka, maybe even
Petter Solberg at Ouninpohja.
Anyone interested?
