Bet Arrows were surprised when BMW pulled out of F1 so they had to go back sheepishly to Yamaha who supplied them engines again and still did a fantastic time. See Roda, despite in a newer and better team is still seconds off the pace, so maybe we will have mobile chicanes still...
Philippe Nicolas wrote:I think I was a bit shocked in the power of the Jordan. I still have to get used to F1CC, but I think tomorrow I will go faster. Nice one Daniel!
Daniel Melrose wrote:We spent most of the day doing race runs and the Renault powerplant felt good. It's much more powerful than the Peugeot engines we had last year and was more drivable aswell. At the end of the day we decided to do one qualifying simulation run which netted me that 21.4 ahead of Damon who set his time right off the bat that morning. I don't really know what happened to Phillipe but his car stopped on the back straight with some sort of technical problem but that was the only problem we encountered all day.

I am positive despite the fact that we were in the bottom half of the time sheets the car felt decent although I am still getting use to it and the expectations of driving for a team like Ferrari. That being said we still have alot of work to do and alot of ground to cover to catch up with the rest of the front runners.
Daniel Martins wrote:I'm am happy with my first test with the team as a driver and now that I am starting to feel more at ease with the car and having checked most of the systems I hope to improve my understanding of the car and be closer to my team-mate. Overall it was a good day.

This is more like it the engineers worked hard between sessions to get the car where we wanted it to be but we are still more than half a second off 1st which is our goal as being the first of losers is not why I and Ferrari are in the F1CC. We were running full race distance and the car felt good throughout the whole test and although I'm not sure what the Sauber was doing but if the season started tomorrow I'd say we would be in a good position to get wins and not lose to a female driver.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with losing to a female driver I meant your in first and if you haven't already figured it out I'm not here to lose the fact that your a female has nothing to do with your racing ability I'd gladly lose to Milka Duno (not ever likely to happen even in a parallel universe) but I don't like being 2nd.
Damon Cannon wrote: That's worrying, now being nearly two seconds off the pace in this second test. I was right up there in the first test. The BMW engine is powerful, but this new gearbox is troublesome. Hopefully Mr Barnard can get it sorted by Australia.
Daniel Martins wrote:By the way, and now talking about today's test, I am happy. I managed to improve from yesterday, the car seems to be consistently competitive and I am getting closer to my team-mate. I hope to keep improving myself, helping the team be competitive, my team-mate and the developing the car. Each lap, I get a better feeling from the car, its grip, its reactions. Only this way, we can take Benetton further up the grid. As my team-mate said, we are looking forward to a fruitful partnership with Honda and if these testing results are signs of what it is to come then we will have a good first year working together. We are absolutely satisfied with its power-to-weight ratio and its peak power. Nevertheless there is still lots of room for development and I know Honda are working hard on this. With us also giving our best back home, we hope to have a very competitive season ahead of us.
Philippe Nicolas wrote:I think my problem is the grooved tires the cars are using now. So far, I have raced only slicks tires in my career, so this is very different and difficult for me. But this Jordan is very very good, and I think if I more practice, I can race at the top with Daniel Melrose.
Jeroen Krautmeir wrote:After two days of testing, I'm pretty confident that the team will be challenging for podium finishes and perhaps the odd win or two. The Renault engine is extremely powerful, and Alain did a great job getting them. Loic Bigois has penned a wonderful chassis, which isn't perfect, but very good nonetheless. So far, my only complaint is the level of understeer I'm getting. It's terribly hard to navigate corners, especially medium to fast speed corners, and I have to put quite a lot of bias towards oversteer, which helps a bit. Straight line speed is fantastic, though, and it looks like we're the fastest in a straight line. The team is expecting a slight upgrade package on the last day, so I'm going to wait for that before making my final verdict. How Pippa got that Sauber on top stuns me, but I'm assuming she was doing a low-fuel run. Padraig looks like a talented fellow, and the two Benettons look very competitive.
Daniel Melrose wrote:I spent the entire day doing long runs and the car felt extremely comfortable to drive even after a 40 lap stint we did early in the day. Jack and Phillipe have also been consistant but both have been complaining about trying to get some temperature into the new grooved tyres introduced for this season. I haven't had any such problems with them so far but that might have something to do with my naturally more aggressive driving style compared to Jack and Phillipe.

Yes indeed! Hell we can even put one brand on one car, and one on the other.

In the straight line I think we are below the Prosts and maybe the Arrows of Cannon, but in the corners I am confidently think Jordan is superior. Still, I don't like this tires at all, and I am still struggling to cope. But today was a bit better, and tomorrow hopeful I can be up there in top 5.

Phillipe seemed to like these conditions much more than I did but even so I had alot of fun out there powersliding my way round the course. The Ferraris seemed much more suited to these sort of conditions as they seemed anonymous in dry trim. Finally a word for poor Jack and he seemed to hate the new intermediates much more than he ever hated the new dry tyres.
Shizuka wrote:New aero parts arrived today and we both tried out different setups. Honda's Spec II engine is great! I managed to close the gap down to a tenth, so it seems the team could really be a constant point-scorer, if not a winner. That's not saying much, but being egoistic doesn't always help. (Canberra Milk did. Now where's the toilet...)
Philippe Nicolas wrote:Well, definitely it seems I can do quite good in the wet! I was able to do what I usually do in this conditions without changing the style and setup much, so I am very very happy! I think theres much work to do for me if I am going to be as fast as Daniel in the dry. Now, it is time for Australia!
