Grand Prix Rejects

I think I've got an idea, I've been doing a bit of research into F3000 for my own series in the PMMF (shameless plug) and I recall that Volker Weidler raced in '86 with a Rial-sponsored Bromley. Obviously, the link being that he raced with Gunter Schmid's lot when they made it to Formula 1. So, uh, is it that?

Correct on both driver and link! The "thing in common with Pirro" I mentioned in the previous post was that of course they are both Le Mans winners.

He qualified 11th, but for a few glorious laps in the wet charged through in his Rial-sponsored Ralt at the head of the field.

He later suffered a puncture and dropped to 10th, and he wouldn't really trouble the front runners for the rest of the season.

Sebastian Vettel has a tendency to name his F1 cars after females and thus Eva if a F1 car rather then an actual driver

Over the years in formula one point have been handed out to the top 5,6,8 and to the top ten.

When was the last time that only 5 drivers scored points in a F1 race?

1987 Australian Grand Prix, I believe, when Yannick Dalmas came fifth but wasn't eligible.

The USA East GP in 1984 had just six finishers, but after Tyrrell were disqualified from the results, that number dropped to five.

That was quick it not the hardest question ever but as you say Dalmas finished 5th but as Lola had only officially entered one car for the season it was ineligible for points

David Purley is correct! Thanks to pit strategy, he officially reached third place on lap 20, behind Vittorio Brambilla and Jacques Laffite, before eventually pitting, where equipment trouble kept him in place for one minute, preventing him from continuing his stride. He would later claim to have briefly led the race around that time, though no records of this exist. Gunnar Nilsson scored his first (and ultimately only) race victory.

1956 Monaco Grand Prix
1957 British Grand Prix
1983 Monaco Grand Prix
1995 Italian Grand Prix

This is probably a stretch but it was the second F1 win (for Brooks only in the shared '57 Aintree drive, and that would include his non-championship Connaught win) for the winners of each of those races? Probably a stretch as I say as Monaco '56 was Moss's 2nd WDC win but he surely must have won at least one non-championship F1 race of some description prior to that.

In each race a reject had his best ever finish:
Da Silva Ramos finished 5th at Monaco '56, Bueb finished 8th at Aintree '57, Sullivan finished 5th at Monaco '83, Papis finished 7th at Monza '95.

That's not the answer I'm looking for. You have to think something that happened in those races and not elsewhere.

The 1995 Italian Grand Prix was where a camera from Berger's car took Alesi out of the race, so I'll guess that in each of these races, a car was forced to retire after colliding with debris from another car.

Is it that the points-scorers all finished in the same order (relative to each other) that they finished (relative to each other) in the Drivers' Championship?

complete guess but did all the drivers who scored points in the races fail to score points in the next one

They all had the same number of finishers...off the top of my head.


Cant get that one about 2nd wins out of my head..and as its already been done I'm tempted to research it

No.

Something to do with unrejectifications.. from the hint. So, I can't remember who got unrejected; certainly in the early races I've no clue...so I guess that a driver and team were unrejected in the same result..

Probably something about combining the 6th placed driver unrejectifying himself and a reject driver scoring his best finish?

I'll go one better and say that the driver in sixth place unrejectified himself (I believe those were André Pilette, Bob Gerard, Mauro Baldi and Jean-Christophe Boullion) and the driver in fifth place scored his first points (I can think of Ramos and Sullivan, both of whom never scored again, but I think the other two might have).

This is close enough what I was searching.

In each of those race, driver who finished 6th unrejectified himself while fifth placed driver was still a reject following the race. Roy Salvadori and Mika Salo unrejectified themselves later though.

Off we go again.

And it is indeed George Harrison! Yes, he was a man who pretty much went out of his way to attend as many Grands Prix as possible in his post-Beatles career and was even on first name terms with a lot of drivers in the seventies, dedicating the single "Faster" to them. And he had fond memories of watching the Silver Arrows of Fangio, Moss and Kling at Aintree as a 12-year-old. I'd give almost anything to see a podium interview conducted by him...

I've had a queation lined up for a couple of weeks, just in case. Who said the following about driving for a team? (from The Daily Telegraph, 9th January 2016):

I actually had written into my contract that it must be fun and enjoyable. And that is what it was.
