No, the Heikki > Ferrari was clearly a typo and Kostas thought Glock is better than anyone who has ever driven in DTM. Including di Resta. And Ralf Schumacher. And Mika Hakkinen. Which is quite a bold statement, to say the least.

The only F1 books my school library has are from around 2008/2009, and more than a couple of them hail Timo as a rising star and such like. Maybe in an alternate universe... *sigh*

The idea behind Glock moving to Virgin/Marussia was for him to lead them up the grid. The problem was that progress has been much slower than anticipated.

It has, and that has to be attributed mainly to the team's direction with car development early on, and having only recently switched to using wind tunnels. However it must also be said that Glock, in comparison to a driver such as De La Rosa, is clearly not cut out for doing long-term development work. He can develop a car over a season, but I think he's lacking when it comes to the sort of ability De La Rosa is employing at HRT. Now Timo is realising that things are going no-where, he wants out, but it's too late to save his F1 career I think. I'm having problems deciding what's slower at Marussia right now: their car, or their progress up the grid.

Well, of the two teams not running KERS in 2012, one of them has definitely confirmed it will be running it in 2013.

Good news I suppose, though it's hardly going to catapult them onto the back of Caterham, let alone the lower midfield. Little steps though, any progress is good at the end of the day. They're also definitely sticking with Cosworth, so we can be sure the engine maker will be around for at least one more year.

It's also interesting to see that Pat Symonds is getting ever more involved with the team. I'd suspect he'll be given an official role there for next year possibly.

Finally, a little hope that Marussia won't be this rejectful forever.

Something that may be of interest to people considering that Marussia are seemingly on the up a bit currently, the BBC did this short video on the team and its IT and computing ability, its mostly talked through by Pat Symonds. Quite an interesting watch if you fancy it:

And just rounding up a bit of other news about them, at the end of August they signed a deal with Free Radio who join as another partner/sponsor. Not quite sure what the deal involves though!

On the driver front, I'm sure everyone's aware that Max Chilton is now the team's official reserve driver, which will come into effect from Japan onwards.

A CFD only approach might sound viable to someone on drugs, but it's painfully obvious just by looking at the car that the computer isn't generating optimal aerodynamic data. If it were, the car would look something like this:

Looks like I called it last year. A CFD only approach was a dead end. If it truly worked then the car would have been consistently fast and looked unique, or it would have been consistently fast and looked like a front running car.

Flashing forward to 2012...

The Marussia partnership with McLaren seems to be working. I think they have a real shot at another good result this year. Barring unforeseen madness, 10th place in the constructors is a lock. They'll score a point next year if they have KERS.

Am I the only one, who has to think of Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid? I mean it as a compliment, as I was expecting something much worse. But the eyepatch makes her look badass. She should have kept her long hair, though.

it's good to see here smiling and talking, saw the x ray pic on another forum and that was utterly horrifying being honest she still has some ops to go but I am sure she will be back in some capacity

Good to see her recovering well. I wonder how the team have dealt with it in the aftermath? Haven't heard much out of them for a while about Maria, recently its just been the reports from the race weekends that have been going up on the website. I'd like to see them offer her some kind of ceremonial role or carry out a gesture to acknowledge her, that would be nice.

On the team's front they recently held a sponsors/partners/VIPs post-season dinner at the HQ in Banbury with the thing held in the race bays which looked pretty neat, there's some pictures here on their Facebook page.

Nothing as of yet on the second driver front, and after that speculation around mid-season on Glock's future, it seems the improvements towards the end of the year have placated him somewhat. I think we're all in agreement that Max Chilton looks like he's a dead cert for the second seat though. In my opinion it's frustrating because I think Marussia could really use having both drivers stay on for two years to help with continuity and development, and I think if Pic hadn't gone to Caterham, then it would have been likely that that would have happened. As it is they'll have another rookie, green as grass, to bed in and train up over the winter. Hopefully Max can do as well as Pic has done and give Glock a run for his money.

Well, I for one rate Chilton quite highly (Although I personally think James Calado has the edge on him but that's a story for another day) so I say good on the kid if he does get the Marussia drive. And from what I heard, Rio Haryanto is pretty decent as well plus he's also got a bit a cash on him so Marussia do have a few up and coming drivers within their ranks, which bodes well for the future.

Graeme Lowdon tells Autosport that the MVR-03 is on schedule to appear at the first pre-season test!

This is great to hear, especially the bits that are apparently ahead of schedule. I think a full program of pre-season testing will really let them hit the ground running for the first race.

A very interesting part of that was Lowdon's statement that the 2012 car was yet again a completely CFD car when it began. I'm hopeful that good things can come from them next season...
