The prospect of an Alfa Romeo-Ferrari takeover/merger is too frightening for the competition. The 1930s are over, Daniel! I would much rather if it were Renzo, the mafia links would add to the intrigue that surrounds Maranello :P

Alright, I shall now clarify the situation with Ecurie Ecosse.

This is a trial for a potential addition next season. Instead of having spec cars as one-off entries, one-off teams could rent their cars from another constructor or team at a fixed price relating to the car's building costs. The team would not have a budget, and the money would go straight to the car owner.

A privateer could theoretically do multiple races, but he would be restrained to races within a certain radius of his team base. The team owner would not pay transport fees to get the car to the race where it is in use, but would have to transport it back afterwards.

As Biscione's plan for Ecurie Ecosse first gave me the idea, this one-off attempt will be the only one allowed this year, unless I happen to be in a good mood. If the trial works well, I can implement this into the game next season.

As a complete side-note, the Le Mans disaster will happen before the Dutch Grand Prix. In real life, four races out of the remaining seven were cancelled. This will also happen in this universe. Every race except the USSR will be RNGd with a 4/7 chance of being cancelled. Why not the USSR? Because Nikita gives zero bathplugs.

I won't post any articles about it before the preview for the next race, but I have RNGd the remaining races.

Due to the Le Mans Disaster, the Dutch, German, Portuguese and Moroccan Grands Prix have been cancelled.

Since the German GP is cancelled, is it possible to let Fitzau drive the famous Guidobaldi instead of Pollet in the Soviet GP ? We would then enter the Italian GP with Pollet, so he also gets the race he has been promised. I hope my budget has the finances needed for this.

As Guidobaldi will surely bite the dust at the end of the season, I would be very interested in coming back in the series as a privateer with both of my drivers doing one-offs next year.

Morocco Ministry of Communications wrote:

Moroccan Grand Prix is Cancelled due to Safety Concerns

We bring unfortunate news regarding our country's foray into international Grand Prix Racing. Earlier this week the 24 hours of Le Mans over in France experienced a horrifying accident, killing dozens of spectators and casting a dark veil over motorsport.

Due to recent negotiations between our Sultanate and the F.I.A. (Formula One's governing body), the Moroccan Grand Prix will unfortunately have to be postponed for another year, along with three other grand prix this year to address safety issues at those venues.

We apologize to anyone who wishes to see Morocco's first ever Grand Prix and have already began issuing refunds to the event. This setback will not deter our country's grand prix team from continued participation in Formula One, as we believe that our efforts thusfar have yielded considerable progress towards becoming a competitive and internationally recognized team.

For the next Grand Prix available (British), Ecurie Maghreb will enter the following:

Driver: Andre Guelfi
Car: Lancia Chassis, Lancia Engine

Are Scuderia Adriatica's deals concerning driver and car already valid?

If so (and if it's still possible), we would like to enter Lucien Bianchi and our Ambrosiana-Ferrari chassis-engine combination in the British and Italian GPs.

Bear in mind you need to specify which Ambrosiana chassis you are using - you have two of them. I'd personally recommend A-002 Chassis 2 ;)

Ok, thanks ;) Then:

Scuderia Adriatica's entry for the British and Italian GPs:

Driver: Lucien Bianchi;
Car: Ambrosiana A-002 Chassis 2, Ferrari engine.

These races will be useful as a training ground for the team's full time effort in 1956.

Scuderia Adriatica mourns all the victims of the Le Mans accident, hoping all necessary efforts will be undertaken in order to make sure such a tragedy won't happen anymore.

La Gazzetta Sportiva wrote:Megalomania? Bizzarri claims of "10 car entry" for Monza

It would appear that young Renzo team manager Simone Bizzarri is suffering from delusions of grandeur. A spectacular claim has come from the Sicilian garagista, claiming in private he will enter no less than ten cars into his team's home event.

The Bizzarri family's ambition in Formula One is known, marking their debut in the sport with a three car lineup last year - larger than most privateer teams and even some manufacturers. That has continued into this season, with a combination of various drivers entering for the Renzo team this year, while piloting their new Alfa machinery.

There have been rumours for some time that the Bizzarris were looking to become a powerful force in Formula One, including talks about purchasing the Scuderia Lancia racing team early in the year, and also suggestions they would build their own chassis from scratch while buying engines from another make.

However, with only three cars on their books at the moment, it seems farfetched to think that Simone Bizzarri has the capability - or perhaps even finance - to enter a whopping ten cars into a single race. Given the highest amount of cars at a single event for any team is a mere four in Formula One's five year history, it seems impossible that such a fanciful idea could possibly come to fruition.

June 11th - Tragic accident hits Le Mans; 84 dead

On Saturday afternoon, a few hours after the start of the 24 Hours of le Mans, a tragic accident claimed the life of driver Pierre Levegh and 83 spectators. After 35 laps, race leader Mike Hawthorn braked heavily to pit for fuel, causing Austin Healey driver Lance Macklin to swerve and avoid Hawthorn. Pierre Levegh, who was driving behind Macklin, could not avoid the Briton's car and was launched into a series of somersaults, the burning car landing in the crowd and throwing pieces of wreckage into the spectators. Levegh, driving with Hans Herrmann, was killed instantly, and 83 spectators also lost their lives. The Frenchman was 49 years old.

Following the accident, Mercedes Benz withdrew their other cars, driven by Stirling Moss/Desmond Titterington and Karl Kling/André Simon. Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb won the race, but the celebration was dampened. Many high-standing figures in motorsport are now casting doubt over the future of the sport itself.

July 15th 1955, British Grand Prix prequalifying

As sad as the circumstances may be, the show must go on, no matter how much shorter it gets. The racing world is down on its knees following the death of Pierre Levegh and 83 spectators in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the World Championship calendar has been reduced to two thirds of its length. The Dutch, German, Portuguese and Moroccan Grands Prix have been successively canceled, leaving only four races before the end of the season. Switzerland have made their temporary ban on motorsport (following the 1954 Swiss Grand Prix) permanent, ruling out the return of the race to the calendar.

Nonetheless, four races have decided to be held anyway, guaranteeing the end of a proper World Championship with seven rounds. 48 drivers have made the trip to Silverstone, skipping the stop in Zandvoort.

96. Karl Kling (Rennkollektiv EMW) - Aston Martin AM-04 chassis 7, Jaguar JFE-2 engine 9

-Following one bad performance too many, Trod van Hoff has fired Helmut Niedermayr and hired Edgar Barth, who'd turned down the drive earlier. Obviously, seeing that no one else was interested, he lowered his standards this time.
-Maria Teresa de Filippis has recovered from her injury in Reims and jumps back into the O.S.C.A. after Volonterio dependably drove the car in Spa.
-Following the Le Mans disaster and subsequent cancellation of most races, Bernie Ecclestone has canceled his entries for the rest of the season bar the Soviet Grand Prix. He has not yet announced when he plans to return to the paddock.
-Despite his brilliant qualifying performance in Spa, Roger Loyer is benched for this race, leaving de Portago as the only Loyer driver this time around. He is scheduled to return in Estonia.
-Geoff Richardson, as scheduled, entered his second car for the British Grand Prix, to be driven by Robin Montgomerie-Charrington.
-Like in Reims, IRA have brought the second Lancia along on loan from the constructor, this time driven by Joe Kelly.
-With Lex Davison on a race-by-race contract for Australasia, their entry was never certain to begin with, but it seems that Davison hasn't been confirmed for Silverstone, and as a result, the team will miss this race.
-Reatherson bring back the second car for Wharton, hoping for Macklin not to destroy yet another chassis.
-Following a double-DNPQ in Monaco, BRUNEL have returned to the paddock in Silverstone with the same duo of Anne Hall and Pat Moss.
-Balkan Leader have dug into their pockets and cobbled together their engine once more, allowing Stan Jones to compete.
-Ambrosiana, deep in debt at this point, have fixed both chassis, allowing Uria and Musso to both compete after Musso missed Belgium.
-Following the embarrassing DNPQ from Wolfgang von Trips in Belgium, Phoenix Racing Organisation did not appear in Silverstone. Could this be the end of the team?
-Finally, a new outfit have made their entry into the sport. Scuderia Adriatica, based in Bari, have bought an Ambrosiana-Ferrari package from Renzo and brought it to Silverstone to be driven by 20-year-old Lucien Bianchi, with the blessing of Jacques Swaters. Questions are still being asked about the Belgo-Italian's level of skill, after being far, far off the pace in his first appearance in his home race last year, but perhaps this is a good occasion to prove doubters wrong.

Of course, there will be a prequalifying session. With 24 drivers making the grid and 48 entries, 24 drivers will go through the session, with only the top eight making the main session. Here they are.

Prequalifying results
1. Peter Collins (B.C.M.A.) - 1:42.56

3. Umberto Maglioli (B.C.M.A.) - 1:44.75
4. Luigi Musso (Ambrosiana-Alfa Romeo) - 1:46.91
5. Toulo de Graffenried (Alfa Romeo-Jaguar) - 1:47.05
6. Cesare Perdisa (Alfa Romeo) - 1:47.10
7. Giannino Marzotto (O.S.C.A.) - 1:47.59
8. André Simon (Alfa Romeo-Jaguar) - 1:47.90
9. André Guelfi (Lancia) - 1:48.08
10. Alberto Uria (Ambrosiana-Alfa Romeo) - 1:48.23
11. Dennis Poore (Vanwall) - 1:48.51
12. Ken Wharton (Ferrari) - 1:48.53
13. Eugenio Castellotti (Porsche) - 1:48.68
14. Joe Kelly (Lancia) - 1:48.88
15. Alfonso de Portago (Loyer-Porsche) - 1:48.96
16. Roy Salvadori (Bentley) - 1:49.02

23. Edgar Barth (Van Hoff-O.S.C.A.) - 1:50.84
24. Anne Hall (Bentley) - 1:51.76

No real surprises here. With the B.C.M.A.s involved, they were always going to prequalify. Perdisa and the Voecklers also prequalify, as do Musso and Marzotto. Perhaps the more surprising failures would be Uria, in the Ambrosiana, Kelly for IRA, Wharton for Reatherson and Poore in the Vanwall, but looking at the calibre of the drivers and teams who did make the cut, their elimination is more understandable. It's worth noting that the quickest non-B.C.M.A. car, that of Musso, was over four seconds slower than Collins, who topped the session. Hall, in last place, was over nine whole seconds off the pace, highlighting the difference in performance around the field.

At the back, Lucien Bianchi takes the new Adriatica team out of last place by almost two seconds, not a bad performance at all considering what was expected of the youngster.

No real surprise for BRUNEL not to get through. The team are still sad and disappointed, however, but are now focussing on travelling up to Scotland to prepare for the next round.

32. David Hampshire (Bentley) - 1:49.23

Desmond Titterington scores his second pole position of the year, only very barely beating Tony Brooks to it. Tony Gaze proves that Alfa were right to give him a new AR161, lining up on the front row as well. Some big surprises are Lance Macklin fighting his way to the grid with the outdated Bentley Speed 3, while de Filippis and Hampshire fail to make the cut. Vanwall will be disappointed at getting no cars onto the grid in their home race.

We're quite satisfied with our performance during this weekend. Lucien did a great job, and we were far closer to pre-qualifying pace than most would have expected: even not finishing last is a remarkable achievement for a brand-new outfit. We rely on faring even better in the Italian GP, now that we collected some noteworthy track experience.

July 17th 1955, British Grand Prix
Titterington got the best start among the leaders and led the first lap from Brooks, Collins, Gaze and Farina. However, Brooks was hungry for his first victory, and slipstreamed his way into the lead on lap 2, while Bira rose to third place, ahead of Collins, Farina and Ramos. Ramos was also making his way through the field and took fourth place on lap 3 while Titterington passed Brooks for the lead again. Renzo's fortunes were incredibly on lap 4, as Ramos pulled off fantastic moves to take second place. However, further back, Dries van der Lof, then in 20th position, completely missed his braking spot into Becketts and collected Cesare Perdisa at high speed, sending both hard into the earth bank. Van der Lof was unhurt, but Perdisa was in pain and taken to Northampton hospital for checks. Lance Macklin pulled out with an oil leak at the same time.

On lap 6, it was Swaters who failed to check his mirrors and took himself out of the race on Stan Jones' car. The Australian continued undamaged, but Swaters injured his wrist and was also taken to Northampton hospital for checks. At the front, everyone was tripping over themselves for second place, playing straight into Titterington's hands. On lap 9, Farina was knocked out in an ostensibly 50-50 collision with Peter Collins, who was able to carry on in fifth place. Ramos spent a while in second place, but slowly slipped back behind Bira and Collins. Maurice Trintignant retired from the top ten with suspension failure, followed on lap 24 by Bib Stillwell with an engine failure.

Bira spent a few laps holding up Ramos and Collins before the Brit made his way through on lap 30. At this point, Titterington had pulled out a healthy lead. Tony Gaze thought it was the best time to end an uninspired race, spinning out of ninth place at Woodcote. On lap 35, Bira caved in and let Ramos through, as well as Moss, who'd easily caught them. Rubirosa and Manzon retired in quick succession with a failed clutch and gearbox respectively. Up front, Ramos fell behind Bira and later Tony Brooks, ending up fifth. Brooks passed Bira on the following lap to make up a B.C.M.A. 2-3.

The fight over third place raged for many lap until lap 64, when Bira pulled into the JAMR pits with a driveshaft failure, ending his race. At the front, though, things were heating up. Collins and Brooks were slowly catching Titterington, and with two laps left, they were within striking distance. Brooks decided not to attack Collins and let his teammate fight for the win. Collins himself caught Titterington on the final lap, and after an unsuccessful attempt at Stowe, pushed the Ulsterman onto the grass at Club. Titterington lost a lot of time, but kept his second place as Brooks was much further behind. Peter Collins was free to go forward to his and his team's first Grand Prix victory. Stirling Moss was running in sixth place when he retired with a gearbox failure. He was classified ninth.

Corriere della Sera, Monday 18th July wrote:Ferrari tax evasion case mysteriously dropped, will return for Scottish GP

In a sudden and unexpected turn of events, it was announced only moments after the end of the British Grand Prix that Scuderia Ferrari, who had missed all of the 1955 F1 season to date, would return to the sport immediately, with their cars being shipped express to Edinburgh as soon as possible.

The future of Il Cavallino Rampante looked extremely uncertain and precarious after a seemingly unending to-and-fro disagreement between the team and authorities over accused unpaid tax bills, which led to the government seizing the racing car maker's assets early in the year.

However, on Sunday morning a statement from Guardia di Finanza announced all of Ferrari's assets would be released immediately, and La Scuderia set to work immediately on recovering the impounded cars and equipment, and have them turned around in time for the Scottish GP in just two weeks time.

The news was especially unexpected, given GdF failed to give an explicit reason for dropping their case against Ferrari, nor were there any rumours or suggestions from the Italian marque that they were close to a resolution.

The Daily Telegraph, Monday 18th July wrote:Racing drivers Bira, Bettenhausen and Van der Lof injured in street attack

In a shocking incident on the evening after the British Grand Prix, three racing drivers, including the reigning Formula 1 World Champion, who had participated earlier in the race were all injured, two seriously, in an unprovoked attack near their hotel in Northampton.

B. Bira, Tony Bettenhausen, and Dries van der Lof, all respected drivers of the Jaguar-Aston Martin factory team, were assaulted by four unknown persons, all wearing dark clothing. Despite the the brutish nature of the attack, the assailants were said to be well dressed, according to a witness of the crime.

The state of the drivers assaulted is various - American born Bettenhausen escaped merely with small cuts and bruises, but reigining champion Bira, along with his Dutch team-mate Van der Lof, were hospitalised as a result of their injuries.

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and are urging any possible other witnesses of the crime to come forward and give more information.

Corriere della Sera, Tuesday 19th July wrote:Scuderia Ferrari announce driving lineup for rest of 1955 season

Having been absent for all of the 1955 season thus far, it was unclear as to what Ferrari's lineup for their suddenly rebooted Formula 1 effort would be. However, the factory has been quick to announce their wheelmen for the upcoming Grand Prix, as well as hinting towards extra entries into their home race at Monza.

Reg Parnell, who has raced for the Scuderia since 1950, will continue with the team with which he has finished third in the world championship on two occasions. Partnering him will be three new arrivals from other teams, and one driver who has not seen action in the series since last year.

Cesare Perdisa has transferred from the Renzo backup car to become a Ferrari young driver, while Paco Godia will try to put his acrimonious split with Gordini earlier in the year behind him with a fresh start at the Italian team.

Troy Ruttman was left without a drive after his previous team, Asso di Fiori, failed to show up for the 1955 season despite expectations they would continue. He will now take the last works Ferrari, at least for the rest of this year.

Scuderia Ferrari will build a new 555 chassis / engine combination immediately.
