Hmmm. I'm wondering. You know what? Pippa is going to hate this, but between you and me, I secretly made a pact with the engineers to swap chassis between Pippa and I for this round, and for qualifying, it seems to have done the trick. I'm at the front, she was on the verge of DNQ'ing. Now let's see if it carries on into the race... If it does, looks like I might have been racing a dodgy chassis this year. AMR = Andrea Moda Racing? Watch this space. And remember, not a word to Pippa...

Finally, the idiotic big-wigs up at F1RWRS HQ have seen some sense and reverted to the old pre-qualifying format to let talented racers, like myself, into the race. With the previous format, only 4 of us got through and the times were so close. Looking back at Adelaide, I would have got 10th on the grid with my pre-qualifying time, and I would have been pole in Zandvoort! I know conditions change between the sessions, but I'm glad that they've seen sense and I've finally got a bathpluging race to do.

Shame about the boss not qualifying, I don't think he could quite get the set-up right. But me, I like the rough and tumble of Bathurst and I'm looking forward to a good scrap, the first in a long time!

Alex Katajamaki is looking for a seat, and is willing to pay* for a place on the grid.

*Katajamaki brings only one sponsor - Lehman Brothers - and has a budget of 12p to spend on acquiring a ride somewhere.

RACE #11 - BATHURST
Qualifying:

Gary Cameron once again shows why he's the reigning champion, piloting his car over the mountain with sheer brilliance. Barii Mori will start alongside, after being the fastest up Mountain Straight and up to Forrest's Elbow, but a small mistake at the Chase cost him pole.

1st: Team Calinetic - Gary CAMERON: 1:23.46
2nd: Footwork Phoenix - Barii MORI: +0.04
3rd: Kahama Motor Sport - Simon REDMAN: +0.21
4th: ArrowTech Racing - Nicolas STEELE: +0.40
5th: RubberTex-Jones Racing - Sammy JONES: +0.55
6th: NAB-HRT - John ZIMMER: +0.72
7th: Anglo-Manx Racing - Douglas MANN: +0.79
8th: Club Bangelia Racing - James DAVIES: +0.97
9th: RubberTex-Jones Racing - Chris DAGNALL: +1.12
10th: Prospec - Nathanael SPENCER: +1.28
11th: CR Motorsport - Darren OLDER JR: +1.47
12th: Team Calinetic - Thomas DE BOCK: +1.65
13th: Trueba Racing - Giovanni RODA: +1.73
14th: Footwork Phoenix - Phoenix MCALLISTER: +1.97
15th: Kahama Motor Sport - Kay LON: +2.03
16th: Hemogoblin Autowerks - Ashley WATKINSON: +2.13
17th: Ecurie de Course Belge - Aurelian MOLL: +2.38
18th: Anglo-Manx Racing - Pippa MANN: +2.52
19th: Pacchia-Coswojuddhartlambo - Dougal KERR: +2.64

Race:
Well, this could be troublesome... this race lasted all of one and a bit laps before someone stacked - and this time it was Nicolas Steele, who locked his brakes up at the Cutting, and collected Davies, Older Jr, Roda, Moll and Kerr, with the wreckage blocking the track. With no red flags, it effectively became a queue, with some passing here and there as everyone edged forward a few centimetres. So, what I have done is this: those 6 drivers who blocked the track are out, but the rest will go through quali again (game's uselessness, you see), and compete in a 29 lap race to make up for it. Hopefully this won't happen again...

Qualifying 2:

Team Calinetic keeps the pole, but this time it's De Bock who's fastest, after Gary Cameron loses a wheel after contact with the wall at Reid Park, and is unable to set a time.

1st: Team Calinetic - Thomas DE BOCK: 1:23.72
2nd: NAB-HRT - John Zimmer: +0.32
3rd: Footwork Phoenix - Barii MORI: +0.42
4th: RubberTex-Jones Racing - Sammy JONES: +0.75
5th: Anglo-Manx Racing - Douglas MANN: +0.86
6th: Prospec - Nathanael SPENCER: +1.06
7th: Hemogoblin Autowerks - Ashley WATKINSON: +1.31
8th: RubberTex-Jones Racing - Chris DAGNALL: +1.56
9th: Kahama Motor Sport - Simon REDMAN: +1.74
10th: Anglo-Manx Racing - Pippa MANN: +1.94
11th: Footwork Phoenix - Phoenix MCALLISTER: +2.17
12th: Kahama Motor Sport - Kay LON: +2.34
13th: Team Calinetic - Gary CAMERON: --:--.--

Race 2:
Lap 1:
John Zimmer gets a good start and a drag race with De Bock goes into Hell Corner. Lon jumps McAllister and Pippa Mann passes Simon Redman at the Cutting, and Redman very nearly hits the wall. At the end of the lap, Zimmer has a small lead, but is under no pressure from De Bock, who is trying to block Jones, after he passed Mori under brakes at the Chase. Spencer is just behind in 5th, with Dagnall and Douglas Mann a short way behind. Redman goes kamikaze, and barely avoids taking out Pippa and Watkinson, but can’t close on Douglas. Gary Cameron’s car doesn’t look very good over the mountain, a complete opposite of his first qualifying run.
Lap 2:
While Zimmer still holds the lead, all the drivers are going fairly slowly over the mountain, not wanting to risk another big accident. The only drivers who are even trying to pass each other are De Bock, Jones and Mori, in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Cameron is now 30 seconds off the lead, as he runs virtually straight ahead at McPhilliamy Park, brushing the wall but not needing to pit.
Lap 3:
It’s a 4-way battle for the lead, as De Bock gets up the inside of Zimmer at Forrest’s Elbow. These 4 are obviously the bravest, as they are attacking the mountain, and are already 10 seconds up the road from the 5th placed Spencer, who obviously is just looking for points. Cameron’s problems are linked to his steering, as he takes a trip to the beach at the Chase, and again at Murray’s corner. He is now almost a minute down on De Bock.
Lap 4:
Zimmer repasses De Bock at the Cutting, and a mistake from Mori at the Esses sees him drop back from the group. Cameron goes straight ahead again at the Chase, and is lucky to get out still on the lead lap.
Lap 5:
Mori makes a big gain with a new fastest lap, and Spencer falls 5 more seconds behind. If Spencer goes any slower, he may fall under threat from Dagnall and Douglas Mann.
Lap 6:
De Bock breaks a little bit too early for Murray’s Corner, and Jones has nowhere else to go, and loses a front wing. Mori, meanwhile, makes a mistake at Murray’s corner and misses out on retirement by mere centimetres. (How’s that for alliteration? Sorry, I failed English, so I’m trying to make up for it). Cameron is starting to get faster, but that won’t save him, since he’s only a few seconds ahead of being lapped. McAllister pits, from P12, but that may not be a smart move at a track like Bathurst.
Lap 7:
He loses a spot to Cameron, but is right on his tail over the mountain. Zimmer now has a large lead over De Bock, who is holding up Jones.
Lap 8:
Watkinson pits from P9, and comes back out behind Cameron and McAllister.
Lap 9:
Zimmer now has quite a lead over De Bock, and Jones just can’t get close enough to pass. Mori pits from P4, and comes out behind Lon, in P10. Cameron also pits from P11.
Lap 10:
It seems that as De Bock drops back, Zimmer eases his way across the mountain, getting nowhere near lapping Cameron. Speaking of De Bock, the Belgian pits, finally releasing Jones. Redman gets a look up the inside of Douglas Mann at Murray’s, with Pippa Mann standing by to pick up a spot if something goes wrong. In fact, Lon is there too, as is McAllister, having just passed Mori.
Lap 11:
De Bock is down in 11th, trying to catch Watkinson, but still miles ahead of Cameron.
Lap 12:
Jones runs horribly wide at McPhillamy Park, and allows Spencer and Dagnall through. Dagnall then gets Spencer around the outside at Forrest’s Elbow. A train of cars has formed behind him though, all the way back to the 10th placed Watkinson. De Bock is a few seconds behind, and Zimmer a few in front, with Cameron still at the Esses by the time they finish the lap.
Lap 13:
Zimmer locks his brakes at the Esses, and Dagnall catches right up, passing him at the Chase. Barii Mori is the best placed of the stoppers, right behind the 6th placed Simon Redman. What is obvious is that the new tyres aren’t having a massive effect, otherwise De Bock would have caught up by now and Mori would be much higher.
Lap 14:
Spencer barely misses the wall at the Cutting, and Jones and Mann sneak through. Mori passes Redman at the same time.
Lap 15:
Well, De Bock finally catches up, Zimmer passes Dagnall at Hell Corner, and Redman pits.
Lap 16:
Dagnall hits the wall at Reid Park, but is lucky to only lose his front wing. Jones inherits second, but runs wide at McPhilliamy Park, and Mori takes second place. De Bock also passes Pippa Mann for 10th.
Lap 17:
Mori takes the lead, and Spencer follows him through, who forces Zimmer wide and that lets Douglas Mann past as well. The current order is Mori, Spencer, D. Mann, J. Zimmer, Jones, Dagnall, De Bock, Watkinson, Lon, McAllister, P. Mann, Cameron and Redman.
Lap 18:
Spencer, Zimmer, Jones and Pippa Mann pit, and Mori goes straight ahead at the Chase. He rejoins still 5th, but very nearly takes out just about everyone behind him. He winds up down in 11th, even behind Spencer and Zimmer. His boo-boo means Douglas Mann is the new leader.
Lap 19:
But not for long, as he and Dagnall pit from 1st and second. This means that Watkinson inherits the lead. Kay Lon, the final stopper also heads in from P6.
Lap 20:
Every driver now has at least five seconds of clean air in front and behind, with the exception of Watkinson and De Bock, who are fighting for the lead. Brilliant, a proper, new tyre duel for the win!
Lap 21:
The order is: Watkinson, De Bock, Spencer, Zimmer, Redman, Cameron, McAllister, Mori, D. Mann, Dagnall, Jones, Lon and P. Mann. As De Bock makes a meal of the Esses, Watkinson gets a two second gap.
Lap 22:
Make that 4 seconds.
Lap 23:
8 seconds.
Lap 25:
Everyone from 5th (Redman) to 9th (Mori) closes up to each other.
Lap 26:
The RubberTex’s join the group.
Lap 27:
Yeah, I think Watkinson will win this.
Lap 28:
Pippa Mann bins it at the Cutting! She’ll be classified, but it is still a poor end to an anonymous race.
Lap 29:
And I was right, as Ashley Watkinson takes victory ahead of Thomas De Bock and Nathanael Spencer.

1st: Ashley Watkinson (Hemogoblin Autowerks): 48 minutes, 18.50 seconds
2nd: Thomas De Bock (Team Calinetic): +12.63

It's just disappointing that the car wasn't as fast as we hoped on fresh tyres, and I think that we could have challenged for the win if I had managed to get more heat into them straight away. I couldn't challenge Ashley towards the end, because he looked at ease at the top of the mountain, and I just couldn't keep up without without putting myself in danger. When the team told me Spencer wasn't a problem, I just calmed down and cruised to second. Again, I'm glad to be able to help the team with some points, and hopefully they'll weigh in our favour in the constructor's race.

I just caught up with about the last 6 races, and would like to say :o :) for my 1st win, and :x for Bathurst.

Gary Cameron also states that he remains confident about mounting a serious title defence, and confirms that he has signed a contract to remain with Calinetic for the 3rd consecutive season.

Also. Nathanael Spencer has expressed his intention to stay at Prospec for a 3rd season

Martin Brundle: "Well, it's a fairly short debate, Murray".

That will teach the machine to bathplug about with the qualifying system! The beast is back and showing everyone how to race! It really couldn't have gone better over the Mountain today. The car was comfortable and that's the most important thing at a difficult track like Bathurst. A big thanks to the team, they're really motivated like me to show how good this team can be. I insisted with the team that I pit early to avoid getting into any squabbles; I'm surprised no one else thought to do that after the red-flagged first race, but it just goes to show that I'm one of the more intelligent drivers out there. It's also nice to get one over the Aussie bas****s like Melrose and Zimmer in their own back yard, take that you convicts! Kay Lon can get lost too!

It was too convenient for me not to do it

Besides O'Lauchlan is more inclined to struggle with tyre management due to his dirt racing background...

I'm trying, calm down! It's just useless, that's all. I think your driver is consistent, just not consistently good. The same driver was used for Dagnall and Roda, and only one got in.

And yet both Menn have been beaten by their B-team driver, Hagane Shizuka in the most recent qualifying! Congrulations to Shizuka-san, but you don't want to be getting anywhere near Pippa at the moment, being the last of the AMR/MAN drivers...

In light of recent news both JLDs will run with no sponsorship decals and black nosecones for the rest of the weekend as a mark of respect for Tom Walkinshaw

For the rest of the season (starting with this weekend's race) we will have black bands on the left arm of each driver. This is following the death of Jacques Swaters, who was in many ways, a great driver, albeit only getting the highest finish of seventh. May he rest in peace. Condolences go to the friends and family of Jacques Swaters.

Following the death of Tom Walkinshaw, and recognising his work with the Holden Racing Team in the V8 Supercars, and with Bundaberg Red Racing, NAB-HRT will run special liveries dedicated to Tom, with the livery of Frank Zimmer's car matching that of the Holden Racing Team's 2010 livery, and John with a Bundaberg sponsored red and black livery, for the next races at Eastern Creek and Surfers Paradise, before using a special black and white sponsorless livery for the remainder of the season.

RACE #12 - EASTERN CREEK
Qualifying:

The Australian fans were left shocked when the front two rows were filled out by drivers from Britain, with James Davies taking pole, and Ashley Watkinson barely missing out. The first Aussies were John Zimmer and Daniel Melrose, lining up on the third row. Over at AMR, things were back to normal, as Pippa put her car 11th, but Douglas... well, the less said about his performance, the better.

1st: Club Bangelia Racing - James DAVIES: 0:53.48
2nd: Hemogoblin Autowerks - Ashley WATKINSON: +0.06
3rd: Prospec - Nathanael SPENCER: +0.15
4th: Team Calinetic - Gary CAMERON: +0.25
5th: NAB-HRT - John ZIMMER: +0.39
6th: JLD Motorsport - Daniel MELROSE: +0.45
7th: RubberTex-Jones Racing - Chris DAGNALL: +0.54
8th: NAB-HRT - Frank ZIMMER: +0.70
9th: ArrowTech Racing - Jari KEKKONEN: +0.76
10th: Australian Minardi - Dave SIMPSON: +0.85
11th: Anglo-Manx Racing - Pippa MANN: +0.92
12th: Team Calinetic - Thomas DE BOCK: +1.01
13th: Footwork Phoenix - Barii MORI: +1.12
14th: Mann-Anglo-Nippon - Hagane SHIZUKA: +1.19
15th: ArrowTech Racing - Nicolas STEELE: +1.28
16th: Pacchia-Coswojuddhartlambo - Luca PACCHIARINI: +1.40
17th: JLD Motorsport - Jeroen KRAUTMEIR: +1.58
18th: Ecurie de Course Belge - Aurelian MOLL: +1.62
19th: Anglo-Manx Racing - Douglas MANN: +1.71

Race:
Lap 1:
Davies got off to a poor start, and Watkinson got ahead, as well as Gary Cameron, under brakes for the second corner. Melrose got the jump on John Zimmer, while Frank had a brilliant start and found himself behind his countryman and ahead of his brother. At the back, however, the positions stayed the same, until Jeroen Krautmeir ran wide at turn 9 and let Aurelian Moll through.
Lap 2:
A late braking dive from Cameron at turn 2 saw him pass Watkinson for the lead, and Davies and Spencer got around on the inside at outside at turn 9. Chris Dagnall, after a poor start, got to 5th place, ahead of Frank Zimmer, Thomas De Bock, Daniel Melrose and John Zimmer. Hagane Shizuka gets to 11th, while Pippa Mann drops to 13th. Douglas, meanwhile, seems doomed to be that one driver who is well and truly off the pace.
Lap 3:
The RubberTex has some straight line speed today, as Dagnall draws level with Watkinson on the straight, and passes at turn 1! Davies outbrakes Cameron at turn 2 for the lead, and manages to hold it after a dive from Cameron at turn 9. The usual pack has formed, with De Bock at the head, then Frank Zimmer, Kekkonen, Simpson and Melrose, with Shizuka, Pippa Mann and John Zimmer fighting for P11 behind them.
Lap 4:
Davies still leads as he starts to pull out a gap back to Cameron. They both a have large advantage back to Spencer, Dagnall and Watkinson. The midfield battle still rages, with De Bock still out in front.
Lap 5:
When Davies goes off at turn 4, his lead evaporates, and Cameron passes around the outside at turn 9. Watkinson has fallen back into the clutches of the pack, and Melrose has gotten away, closing in on Spencer and Dagnall.
Lap 6:
Dagnall passes Spencer for 3rd, but Melrose comes very close to taking them both out, with a very late braking move at turn 2.
Lap 7:
Watkinson breaks away from the pack and gains on Spencer, while Melrose runs off the road at turn 2 and rejoins in the midst of the pack.
Lap 8:
John Zimmer catches back up to the pack, and immediately passes Melrose and De Bock, ending up right behind his brother by the end of the lap. Jari Kekkonen, having been fairly anonymous in the pack, gets slightly ahead, with Dave Simpson just behind. De Bock falls back after a short excursion at turn 2.
Lap 9:
Spencer passes Davies in a brave move at turn 7, and John Zimmer comes in for the first stop of the race.
Lap 10:
Zimmer gets out ahead of Douglas Mann, that’s how slow he is.
Lap 11:
Spencer, Frank Zimmer, Melrose, Simpson and Moll all pit at once.
Lap 12:
Cameron is now virtually unchallenged for the lead, with a fairly large gap to Davies, Dagnall and Kekkonen, who are battling for second.
Lap 13:
Cameron goes straight ahead at turn 9, but manages to keep it out of the wall, and rejoins side by side with Davies. Davies took the lead thanks to his faster car. As the lower midfield bunch up, Krautmeir shows his skill and gains 4 places in one lap, despite having John Zimmer breathing down his neck the entire time.
Lap 14:
Now the frontrunners bunch up and Dagnall takes advantage to lead the lap. Kekkonen and De Bock do battle for fourth place, while everyone from the 6th placed Barii Mori to the 14th placed Nicolas Steele is in one massive group, which includes John Zimmer and Nathanael Spencer. Both, however, are being held up by Luca Pacchiarini.
Lap 15:
Dagnall holds his lead, with Davies second and Kekkonen passing Cameron for third at turn 9. Pippa Mann tries her very best to kill Spencer, but in the process nearly kills Zimmer instead, forcing off the road and giving Spencer the spot. Barii Mori has broken away from the pack after passing De Bock, while Frank Zimmer and Dave Simpson catch on to the back, and easily pass Steele at turns 9 and 11 respectively.
Lap 16:
Cameron gets back past Kekkonen, and then Davies as well to take second place, but Dagnall is starting to open up a lead. Spencer is now 9th, with John Zimmer right behind him. The other Zimmer and Simpson are a few spots behind. Krautmeir is the new pack leader, as De Bock breaks away and Mori is forced off the road by Kekkonen. Melrose also passes Steele as he gains on the pack.
Lap 17:
With a faster car, John Zimmer gains four places at once at turn 2, but Spencer only made 3 passes there, and was one of Zimmer’s four. In fact, throughout the lap, he makes several passes (including some pretty dangerous ones), to get to 3rd place by the end of the lap. Spencer, meanwhile, in what is arguably an example of good teamwork, is run off the road by Frank Zimmer, and very nearly gets hit by Simpson.
Lap 18:
Melrose gets up the inside of Simpson with a faster car at turn 1, while John Zimmer takes the lead from Dagnall at turn 9, and Frank gets to 5th place, between Dagnall (who lost spots to Cameron and Kekkonen), and Shizuka. Spencer is stuck in traffic, but gets a moral victory when it is announced that Frank Zimmer and Pippa Mann will both receive 20 second penalties post race for dangerous driving, and any further example will be punished with disqualification. Douglas Mann’s race comes to end when his engine goes boom as he enters the straight. He manages to coast down the pit lane to his box.
Lap 19:
Frank is now third, with only Chris Dagnall splitting the pair. Cameron pits, as does Shizuka, Krautmeir, Kekkonen and De Bock.
Lap 20:
Frank Zimmer passes Dagnall for second, although where he ends up after his penalty remains to be seen. Dave Simpson has now passed Spencer, although he arguably had help from Pippa Mann, who gave Spencer a little tap as Simpson tried to pass. However, at the end of the lap, both Spencer and Melrose pass Simpson down the straight, with much better engines. Pacchiarini pits.
Lap 21:
Spencer is now 4th, trying to find a way past Dagnall. Melrose made his pass on Simpson stick, but can’t get ahead of Davies.
Lap 22:
A few of the most recent stoppers are now a lap down, while only Pacchiarini has been lapped by Frank. Spencer is now 3rd, Melrose 4th and Simpson 5th, with Dagnall demoted to 6th. He is now trying to defend from Moll, the next best stopper, who is ahead of Davies and Pippa Mann.
Lap 23:
Moll passes Dagnall, and the next best stopper is Gary Cameron, in 12th, but with Krautmeir right behind.
Lap 24:
Barii Mori pits, and is immediately lapped.
Lap 25:
The hope of Spencer getting ahead of Frank Zimmer even after his penalty is applied is slim, as the Australian is well ahead now. There is big accident at turn 2, and who is involved? Former JLD teammates Daniel Melrose and Dave Simpson! Melrose hits the brakes a little too early, and Simpson can’t dodge in time. Melrose loses a rear wing, Simpson his front, but only Melrose pits (it’s been proven that front wings seem to be mere showpieces, but the rear wing is sort of important).
Lap 26:
Simpson’s role in the incident will be punished with disqualification, as Melrose loses a lap due to difficulties in removing the wing. Simpson is entitled to finish the race, or he can just pull into the pits. Which he doesn’t do. Watkinson does pit, however.
Lap 27:
Nicolas Steele is getting really frustrated by being stuck in the pack and being kept on track by his team, and vows to hit whoever is the next to pass him. The victim? John Zimmer, who loses his lead as he is forced into the wall. Steele is almost immediately handed a DSQ, and he decides to stay out on track, and promptly attacks Shizuka, forcing him into a wall too!
Lap 28:
The final pit stops occur as Davies, Dagnall and Pippa Mann all file in.
Lap 29:
John Zimmer is still on track, and is close enough to Frank to take the win after his penalty is applied.
Lap 30:
And for the second straight year, Frank Zimmer wins at Eastern Creek! The sad part, his penalty will demote him to third, after some good laps from Spencer puts him only 13 seconds behind. That means John Zimmer takes his first race victory instead.

1st: John Zimmer (NAB-HRT): 30 minutes, 28.65 seconds
