Until a few months ago, I'd given up on the current indie scene because it was pretty dire ,with bands like Bombay Bicycle Club and The Vaccines becoming popular. Dull, boring, inoffensive bands, not exciting at all. But recently, there's been a lot of buzz about the music scene in the West Midlands, and the bands/artists coming out from there genuinely sound good. Bands like
Peace and
Swim Deep are where it's at now. Definitely can detect Madchester/baggy influences in these bands.
Cripes, is it really half a century since the first Beatles album was released?!
Well, I know what I'll be listening to tomorrow now...

I like The Vaccines, don't care for Bombay Bicycle Club though.

Hubert Farnsworth is that you? I totally read that in his voice.
But in all seriousness, I don't care for them, so i'm not the least bit sad about this.

I bought Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt for £20. Original '94 pressing, only about 45,000 were ever sold. I'm very pleased with that...

Hi chaps,
Thought I'd drop you
a friend's YT channel. It's mainly about vinyls and stuff like that, so if that's up your street you might want to give him a go. He'll do some sporadic giveaways as well to keep the interest going. He might even throw in a few guitar tutorials and stuff like that, we'll see.
Check him out if you've got a minute.

Having found out yesterday that East 17 come from the same area of London that I come from, I thought I'd research and give you a guided tour of the musicians who've made it big from Lowestoft.
Remarkably, a whole TWO acts have charted highly nationwide and. The first of them, I'm sure you've heard of them, is
The Darkness. I suppose you either love them or hate them...
And the other?
This guy....
Continue as you were.

As far as I know, no artists/bands made it from the part of Birmingham where I live. Closest bands to where I live that made it are UB40 and Ocean Colour Scene

Good lad, excellent band, pretty underrated too, though their older stuff does get a fair bit of mainstream play.
I went to Nottingham last night to see Swedish band H.E.A.T play, and considering the tickets were £3 each, you can figure how well known they are! It was only a small gig in a side room at Rock City but a good set, definitely glad I went. Probably mentioned them earlier on in this thread, but whatever.
Couple of music videos off their most recent album:

And I've finally been getting into Kraftwerk lately. It's still a wonder how efficient German music can be so wonderful. Not to mention the way Kraftwerk were ahead of time. The song "Metropolis" was released in 1979, although it sounds like your typical "edgy" 80's song. Or "Computerliebe", which caused a mild shock, since I knew the melody from a Coldplay song.
Too bad Kraftwerk hasn't released that many albums, because I've almost have heard every song made by them.

I heard one of their new songs on the music channels, and I have to say, compared to their older stuff, it was actually alright. Still not my type of thing by a long distance, mind you.
Have 7 and a half minutes of Shed Seven as your reward today.

Unless you're diving into the later albums (the "I'm Kerry King, I'm part of the band that perfected thrash metal in 1986 and, guess what, now I'm listening to Slipknot!" era), that is. Anything up to and including
Seasons In The Abyss can be considered essential and
Divine Intervention is mostly worth a punt.
I still have my Slayer t-shirt from Donington in 1995. Fantastic day, that was.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxp0PFoIdmUI have been listening to the latest from the 'sons' of Kraftwerk, Daft Punk. I must say that, ever since I laid my ears on it (if I can say so), something wasn't right. I now know what it is. It has too much pop and and too little of house. And their trademark synthpop seems to be lost behind Pharrell's vocals and only coming to life in the last 10 secs of the song. Disgraceful, if you ask me. I will listen, but in a very disappointed way.

The Strypes - Blue Collar JaneI saw this lot on Jools Holland a couple of weeks ago, and they were bloody fantastic. Proof to all the moaners that music doesn't have to be modern and up to date.

Hmm not bad, pretty good sound, I was thinking that they were just a bunch of Beatles wannabes but the guitar solo was a nice little addition towards the end. They're a bit young though aren't they? Looks like they should be taking their GCSEs, let alone be at uni!
In my preferred part of the music world, Reckless Love announced their first single off their new third album which will be out later this year. It's called Night on Fire, and is released tomorrow!
Originally they had it up on Youtube at first, but bizarrely it got taken down for some reason, but it's still available on this Finnish website:
Watch it here.Definitely one of the best songs they've done, it's looking like this will be a better album than their slightly disappointing second one.
