Also, if anyone needs Wiki pages for any of their fictional drivers, I'd be happy to write them, providing you give me the neccesary background details etc.

We would also like to remind Mario Andretti that if his contract is to expire before the year is out, then we would like to get back in talks with him too!

For sure, to be so close but not be able to make it is a bit frustrating, but Rene was really good at closing ze door on me, and I didn't want to make a silly attempt and ruin both our races. 4th is still good, it's more points for me and ze team, so I'm still 'appy.

Harvey Jones wrote:Yes! I'm absolutely thrilled to win today, especially in Britain in front of the home crowd. The podium at Silverstone was special, but this result trumps that by a long way. Considering some of the troubles the team has had this year, this is a somewhat surprising result, but the car suited the track very well indeed. My future for 1980 is still undecided however. One good result will not suddenly change what has been in general a very disappointing season for both parties, and I will continue to assess the situation until my mind is made up.
Autosport wrote:Dire straits for Jenkins
Despite his first top 10 finish in F1 at Brands Hatch yesterday, and the team's second in their brief history, Marshal Jenkins is on the verge of shutting his team down after a potential line of investment to fund the team dried up. The Jenkins F1 team has been notorious for its laid back, some say amateurish, attitude to F1, and it's shoestring budget took a massive hit when Marshal fired Italian driver Beppe Gabbiani from the team midway through the year. Gabbiani had brought Parmalat sponsorship to the team, but once that was gone, Jenkins was forced to fund the team out of his own pocket, and through loans taken out against his soft porn business, Jenkins Industries. It is now believed that Jenkins Industries is itself in serious financial trouble, and with the costly overseas races coming up that would complete the 1979 F1 season, Jenkins is believed to be refusing to travel to any of them, and will instead axe his team, leaving an incensed Rupert Keegan without a drive for the final three races of the year. Jenkins himself said this to reporters after the Brands Hatch race,
"Tenth place is a cracking result, I'm really happy I was able to bring the car home. It matches our best ever finish, and has shown what a small team like ours is able to do with very little money. Rupert I'm afraid to say had no chance of qualifying, he did well to set the time he did, considering the car was on its last legs and an engine firing on just 5 cylinders. That's the situation we're in now, we have no money, no prospect of more money coming in, and I'm not going to bleed my business dry to do three races in foreign countries I don't even like. It is with all probability that the race I just completed will be the last for the Jenkins F1 team, but we've had a good time along the way, and we've proven that good things can be done by a bunch of enthusiastic people who know bugger all about the sport, with no money."
Rene Arnoux wrote:This was a good race, I'll need as many points as I can get, so a third place is a good result. We need to get more consistent now that the year is winding down and the races get fewer.

Rebaque's newfound success in the second half of 1979 has brought new sponsors calling. The Mexican bank Banamex and the American chip company Frito-Lay have been announced as major sponsors for the 1980 season. Rebaque has also announced that Penske will be developing the PR-02 along with Rebaque's engineers. Hector Rebaque will also take a managerial role for 1980 instead of a driving position. They also announced that O'Connell and Ghinzani are still in a dead heat for the drive next season.

I had to fire him otherwise he or Takagi could have found themselves dead or injured...from fistfighting. Derek Daly will take his place for the final three races of the season.I might keep him on for 1980 should he continue to impress in these last three races.

These rumours are a complete lie, as Andretti is negotating to become the new number one driver at Merzario

Nah. He'll probably prefer our German engineering mob over yours.![]()
Actually, he'll probably just tell both of us to get stuffed and join Brabham instead

The Daily Race wrote:Andretti: Where To Now?
For a driver who, lately, likes to anger British teams founded by a New Zealander for running into too many Tyrrells containing 100% more Hiroshi Takagi,it mainly comes as a surprise to see so many teams wanting Mario Andretti's name on their cars for 1980.Well, he is a former world champion and there's the fact that, despite being recently fired, he was bound to get a ride for the upcoming season, this still comes as a shock to him.
"I was definitely not expecting many offers, but these latest rumors are giving me confidence in giving Mr Mayer some payback",says the American, who has heard of rumors from ATS/JLD,Merzario and that freakishly creepy Unknown German Manufacturer who seems to be stalking the F1 world lately. We called Andretti to tell us what he thinks about the rumors and ,more importantly, which team he might be driving for next year.
"You see,it's quite difficult picking a team. You can't go by stats,as there might be some hard luck stories. You also cannot go by gut instinct,as that may turn out to be the wrong choice like what I did with McLaren. But,after factoring these things, I'd say I would go for Merzario at the current moment. Of course,I'm not signing the deal straight away, but Merzario would be my first pick unless more offers come in.Also, their naturally-aspirated engine could make me faster in their car than the turbos.Might sound like I'm not making sense, but trust me,you'll see."
