I will allow the signing because a) I have not said no before and b) Twinings is a smaller team than some of the others (11 riders vs some teams of 20+).
However I would in general prefer no new riders or new riders in place of old ones. From the next season (ok that may be awhile away!) I will limit mid season signings and new rider creation.

Having large numbers of riders isn't a major advantage anyway, only the top 5 overall scoring riders count for a team's score.
Currently Hitachi (3), Fosters (3), Alitalia (4), CIP (1), Minardi (4) and Performance & Cocktails (3) have riders on the scoreboard whose points don't contribute to the teams total.

Welcome back Minardi!

Well, with Minardi back, one of my two main free agent targets is now out of the window. Let's see what happens with the other one.

In the meantime, I am adding one new rider to the roster. I need more domestiques so I'll have to create a new one rather than rely on cannibalising any soon-to-be defunct teams, as it looks like there may not be any of those.

Vincenzo Jacomuzzi [ITA] (26yo)
Hills, Endurance, Fighting Spirit

I'll go ahead and announce the Alitalia lineup for Liège-Bastogne-Liège now;

Stefano Firenze
Claudio Castiglione
Xavier de Vos
Przemyslaw Kolodziejczak
Raphael Le Clercq
Heidar Helguson
Vincenzo Jacomuzzi
Artan Karimi

Added the new Alitalia rider.

I think maybe I should run the next two events (one classic and one tour) keeping any inactive team on standby. I know that many users are currently doing exams and all team owners have been on F1 rejects forums at some point this month at least, so it would be a bit hasty to end their teams.

But if by the time the Giro comes around and I have not heard anything I will make their riders available.

I will therefore make the deadline for the L-B-L Sunday 26th May 15:00 (3PM)

Liege - Bastogne - Liege.

The opening 100km of the stage was mostly a slow paced tactical affair with no team wishing to lead the field, 3 riders took the opportunity to break right off the bat.
Image
Claudi Gusto (Mabbazana), Darren Matthews (PCR) and Jean Velo (Lansvale) made a spirited charge. None of them are climbers and the chance of winning the stage looks pretty remote, but it may force the other teams in to working hard to catch them.

Image
Alitalia, Fosters and Fantomette lead the chasing pack and caught the breakaway with around 50km of the stage remaining. At this point the pace of the field coupled with the late hills meant more and more riders were falling away from the back of the pack. By this point only half the field remained at the front with more and more falling behind with every KM.

Towards the final 20km's and some strong riders decided to break away. First Alexy Volkov of NSA Team made a spirited break and lead by 30 seconds from the 20km mark, but his effort was perhaps to early and he was soon caught. Pre-race favourite Klaus Fahrrad broke forward with just over 10km remaining and pulled out a 40 second lead. The remaining peloton could not keep up with him and the pace fractured as 5 riders broke forward to catch Fahrrad. Centrone (Fantomette), Le Bleu (Hitachi), Jacomuzzi (APB), Hatayuki (PCR) and Craig West (TWI) all rushed forward in what looks like a grandstand finish.

Klaus Fahrrad bravely hung on in to the final KM with a marginal lead however....
Image
Sid Hatayuki managed to blast past and take the stage victory for Performance and Cocktails Racing!

Image
Klaus Fahrrad just managed to hold on to 2nd place form Le Bleu as West, Centrone and Jacomuzzi cross the line together.
Ndikele makes it two Fantomette riders in the top 10, the first time they have managed that in any stage this season, with Badger, Firenze and Lupo rounding up the points and confirming a strong run from those teams.

Image
PCR and Alitalia tied the stage on time with the victory going to PCR by virtue of Hatayuki's win. With some strong performances from Foster's, Hitachi and Twinings.
Team CIP and Minardi screwed up their strategy by hanging back to much coming in to the 2nd half, when the field started to break apart they had to work extra hard to catch up and had no real shot at the front. NSA and new boys Restov had some riders in the mix, but NSA's gamble with Volkov did not pay off and Restov had the same problem as Minardi and CIP by having their two good climbers on the wrong side of some breakaways.

Other than a spirited late effort from Lansvale's Jean Velo, there was little to celebrate at CCI, Mabbazana or LSR, the climbs proving a little too much today.

The next event is the Grand Prix de Romandie.

A 6 stage tour in Switzerland compromising of:
a 3.7km Prologue. 3 Medium length Hill stages, 1 mountain stage and a 16km hill climb time trial.

Once again teams may enter 8 riders.
This event is about the transition between the hillclimb season to the heavy duty mountain stages, this event is also the warm up for the GIro!
