That's a lot better than the method I gave to F-O-K a few months ago.

Why Lily why? After hearing Mr. Blue Sky fortnightly for the last few years, it's gotten to the point where it's almost unacceptable for me to hear it done by anyone else other than ELO.

Not only was today the 50th birthday of Johnny "F**kin" Marr, it's also 30 years to the day that
This Charming Man was released.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNpeK7sDLzEJust because I bathplugging hate the NME sometimes.
I actually think it's a better version than the original, and the NME absolutely hate her, which means she must be pretty good. [/troll logic].
She actually is pretty good, I bought her album a couple of weeks ago.

I'm afraid that much as I like John Lewis, I do blame them for what I call 'drippy bint' syndrome, where almost every advert now has to be soundtracked by a woman singing an old song from the 70s / 80s / 90s (delete as appropriate) that has been magically turned from its original form into hippy music.
I HATED that version of 'The Power Of Love' - no emotion at all compared to Holly Johnson's vocal. And I can't even bring myself to listen to the latest one given that
a) I'm not keen on Lily Allen anyway
b) I really like the original!

I'm sure those of you who have flicked through this thread in the past know my stance on NME. If you don't, then it's not a particularly positive stance. To be quite honest, although music is a purely subjective field of art and expression, NME feel that they can dictate their readership into listening to what they like.
Example:
In my own opinion, Jake Bugg is nothing special musically, and his voice is not particularly dulcet or easy to listen to. However, NME pushed him to their readers so much that he's managed to sell a few albums here and there. In short, they promote all kinds of people trying to be 60's throwbacks and fail to recognise the fact that sub-mainstream music is evolving towards a more electronic-driven route.

Don't know really. I like some of his tracks but not all of them and I'm simply haven't become a fan of him. The thing which is most interesting for me is that Eminem is already in his 40s. Not that he should quit but I mean really, a 40+ rapper?

After having seen the guy 'live' (he happened to play on the festival in my city , earlier in august), i don't give a damn anymore about him. Yes, he was really that dissapointing. Not that i expected much of him, but just like most people i know, we though 'well, why not watch, he's there anyway?'. Well, he proved all doubters right.
And what's so remarkable about 40+ rappers? I mean, most of them are 40+, or have i missed something?

Guess you're a different generation, then.

What I'm p***ed off about is that they slag off Fyfe Dangerfield in that article, who is one of my favourite musicians.

Sort of; "Recovery" was one of the top albums of 2010 in my mind, but more often than not his albums tend to be very patchy- the singles and good non-released work heavily outweighed by the filler tracks (case in point being Relapse). Anyway, of the tracks I've heard from his new album, Berzerk is the only one really worth listening to- Survival is far too ploddy and long winded, and Rap God and Monster are fairly non-descript.

Super Furry Animals - Ice Hockey HairSurely one of the most original bands of the last 25 years, and one of the best bands to come from Wales (alongside the Manics and the 'Phonics).
