Over-use of the word "crucial" was evident again in today's race.

I'd definately say Legard is getting worse. Maybe those rumours about Brundle wanting him out are true and he's kind of giving up on the job before he's done. Today as others have pointed out, he was patronising, downright embarrasingly patriotic and missed key moments in the race, like the start when Rosberg passed Hamilton, getting himself all muddled up and it taking a couple of laps before the replay came on, and for Brundle to explain the entire situation. Then they both missed the fact that Hamilton slipped to third behind Alonso after the third safety car and was under threat from Massa. Pretty poor showing if I'm honest. I hope they get a replacement, anybody, for next year.

Getting reminded at the end of each qualifying session that the drivers may finish any laps they've started before the clock hits zero, but can't start any new ones, really bugs me at times. It just feels a little stupid to me to remind the viewers every single time about it.

I agree that Legard is now become a total disgrace in the commentatary box. Methinks Ant Davinson, Maurice Hamilton or Crofty should replace him.
... "that's a real shot in the arm"... Was a typical annoying comment Legard said so much last year, I started to believe that Legard was actually some sort of crackhead (he certainly looks like one

).
Or.."what he got in the locker now"...

Typical Gonzalo Serrano (spanish tv comentator on telecinco both epoques: 1994-1996 and 2004-2008), would say before every single race start:
"And you know, if you blink you´ll miss it, as this is pure Formula One!"

I agree about that though, I mean 'shot in the arm' - it doesn't even sound like a positive thing to say about someone!
Who fancies a shot in the arm here? Shotgun or needle, your choice!

"Keep it on the island" is pretty bad but I really can't stand being told that a car dumping oil on the track will "make it slippy".
I think the reason Martin Brundell seems to ignore Jonathan Legard is that he only seems point out irrelevant, untrue or
very very boring facts. If Brundell acknowledged every stupid thing Legard said it would more like Steptoe an Son than F1.

Brundell, a mix of Brundle and Blundell! That would be an fairly unlucky F1 career!

That is how the Japanese commentators dealt with the 1991 season. You see, in Japanese you don't have the letter L so you pronounce it as a R. Add the fact that its a syllable-language, so no lone consonants are spoken, they get a semi-muffled U or a I added to them. They also use purely phonetic versions of words. So they pronounce both Brundle and Blundell as Buranduru

That'd be Darrell Waltrip. Annoying. <--- Full stop
That catchphrase even made it into movies, namely Talladega Nights ...
So expect to see some film called

P.S. Edit - The above may be wrong, I know he was in Talladega Nights, but not sure if actually said it, but anyway, the post below reveals more ...

It's also in Cars. As a commentator's catchphrase i'm ashamed to admit I actually quite like it - it's Redneck enthusiasm that could only possibly work in America*. But then again, I've only watched 2 Nascar races over the last 10 years, and I can imagine tiring of it pretty quickly if I had to deal with it regularly.

If we have an F1 Rejects meeting somewhere we HAVE to play a game of Legard Bingo
I was going to suggest the BBC F1 Drinking Game but then I realised many members including myself are underage.

I think we should. If so, I'm claiming yellow...
As for annoying sayings, James Allan: "LEWIS HAMILTON, WINS (Insert GP here)" though Legard seems to be taking this one up a little too. Wouldnt surprise me if he does in the next two races
Although its not really a slogan per se, is it me or does Eddie Jordan change opinion on something each race but always claims to have had that opinion?

does anyone else get irritated every time they say, 'has he kept the fire?' after a spin?
not just that but any references to the engine either stalling or not as the 'fire'.
e.g.:
"has he kept the fire (burning, alight, going)?"
"the fire is out"
"re-fire"
"kept the car fired"
this is something that steve matchett tends to say A LOT, and back in the days of nelspin piquet and rrrrmmmn grrssjnnn, it was a biweekly occurance.

Blundell can just as well be pronounced as Buranderu and Brundle as Buranduru or Burandoru to differentiate them. Don't know if the announcers ever did that, but it would have made sense and been less confusing.
And for what it's worth, Japanese Wikipedia lists Brundle as ????? (Burandoru) and Blundell as ????? (Buranderu)
Edit: Hm, I see this board doesn't support Japanese characters. Or I'm doing something wrong.

i must note, though, that there's not a single quote from david hobbs here.

4 laps later
"Hes got a problem surely Christian Horner knows it, Alonso knows it and surely Vettel knows it"

Huh? The first quote is Varsha's, the second is Hobbs. Although Matchett does have quite a few of his own... the difference is that he can do a pretty reasonable analysis, given the opportunity.
