Surely it will be 1-90 Ferrari and 91-100 for all the other random teams

Because McLaren have had the better car for the last two years and are offering the same salary? Although, that's only if Pryce and Hunt lose their minds and go to Shadow, but if Nannini-gate taught me one thing, its that you should always have a backup just in case...

If Nannini-gate taught me one thing, it's that loyalty doesn't exist and drivers are willing to stab you in the back for what is, in fairness, a sideways move.

In fairness, the Flaschenpost system is basically just random chance with some weighting. There's always some chance you'll get completely shafted.

I'm still waiting for the following teams to offer contracts to drivers:

ATS
Merzario
Surtees
Apollon

Boro (I know you want to wait until 1977 is over, which is probably today)

Okay Boro would like to offer a drive to any of these drivers provided they can come up with 500K of funding.

In order of preference
Ricardo Zunino
Kunimitsu Takahashi
Albert Poon
Piero Necchi
Kazuyoshi Hoshino
Piercarlo Ghinzani
Satoru Nakajima
Gianfranco Brancatelli
Beppe Gabbiani
Hans Royer
Takao Wada
Jiro Yoneyama

We are willing to enter two cars full time if two of these drivers can come up with 500K each.

Apollon really needs a pay driver. We are willing to offer Ertl 50k.

I'll just put the Boro car for 30 000 per race, as no one would bring half a million for a full season drive, not even Nakajima. Would that be ok for you?

And I'm still waiting for ATS, Surtees and Merzario. Deadline is Sunday.

30K a race for 16 races works out to 480k. Just saying...

I can make it 31 250 per race, then it's exactly 500k.

Didier Pironi
Jacques Laffite
Michel Leclere
Patrick Tambay

You're a bit late to the show, all the new teams were taken up a few weeks ago. This series roughly follows real life, so new teams appear and old ones close within a year or two of what actually happened. The only think I can think of is trying to pressure pi314159 into letting Kauhsen in a year early, which is plausible given they were doing full campaigns in European F2 in '76 and '77. Althought you'd get a tiny budget and more than likely end up failing to pre-qualify.

The problem with Kauhsen is that This already changed his team entry to Willi Kauhsen Racing Team in 1978, still running Kojimas. But I can think of letting Rebaque enter with their own car for 1978.

Don't worry too much about it; however, I'd like to note my interest so I'll keep an eye to see if any team owner leaves a team or if not I'll wait to 1979. No rush!

Well, Willy Kauhsen did try to take over Kojima in reality. I could give away Kauhsen if somebody wants to run it, as they also tested intensively in 1978. If the Japanese GP stays, it would also make sense for Kojima to stay. It could perhaps evolve into Spirit-Honda one day, if we ever get there.

Let's start the signup process:

Tom Pryce:
The current drivers' champion has a contract for two years offered by McLaren, for 500k per year. Alternatively, he has the offer to join Shadow for 600k.

1-95 Continues with McLaren
96-100 Goes to Shadow

It's 17! As everyone expected, Pryce re-signs with McLaren to defend his title

James Hunt:
Has the same offer as Pryce for McLaren, and a 450k offer from Shadow
1-95 Stays with McLaren
96-100 Goes to Shadow

It's 42! Hunt stays with McLaren

Both McLaren seats are filled now. So everyone else who hoped to get a McLaren drive has to look somewhere else now.

Runner-up Ferrari have offered contracts to:

Gilles Villeneuve:
Gilles has the option to go to Ferrari for 600k, or to Williams for 700k.

1-70 Signs with Ferrari
71-100 Signs with Williams

61, Villeneuve signs with Ferrari for 1978

Riccardo Patrese:
Riccardo Patrese has two offers: Ferrari have offered him 400k, Arrows have offered 300k.

1-95 Signs with Ferrari
96-100 Signs with Arrows

59, no surprise here.

Next are Tyrrell:

Tyrrell's preferred driver Patrick Depailler has only one other option: A part time drive at Martini. So it's quite obvious where to go.

1-98 Tyrrell
99-100 Martini

1, Depailler didn't have to think long about where to go.

Same thing for Jarier, A full season for Tyrrell, or the Martini contract

1-98 Tyrrell
99-100 Martini

34, Tyrrell's second driver is signed.

Patrick Tambay: He has three offers: The 250k Penske offer, the option to drive for Martini, or paying for the Theodore seat.

1-98 Signs with Penske

Wolf seats next:

Jacky Ickx: Has a 400k offer from Wolf and a 175k offer from Ligier

1-85: stays with Wolf
86-100: goes to Ligier

48, as expected, Wolf stays with Wolf

David Purley:

Signs with Wolf, as he has no other offers, no random necessary.

March:
One seat is already taken by Andretti, and Jones has no other offers, so he signs for March.

Shadow drivers:

Nelson Piquet has only the offer from Shadow, so he accepts, although he hasn't got the cockpit safe.

Ronnie Peterson has a 450k offer from Shadow, and a 270k offer from Brabham. So the numbers are:

1-65 Signs for Shadow
66-100 Signs for Brabham

35! Peterson drives for Shadow next year.

Didier Pironi: Has offers from Shadow and Martini
1-98 Tries to get the Shadow cockpit
99-100 Signs for Martini

54 hopes for the Shadow cockpit, but has Martini as backup plan

Keke Rosberg: Has 4 different offers: 320 from Shadow, 200 from Brabham, 200 from Arrows and 250 from Williams

1-30 tries to sign for Shadow
31-55 signs for Brabham
56-80 signs for Williams
81-100 signs for Arrows

55! Brabham have a driver

Lombardi and Stommelen don't have other options and hope for the Shadow seat.

Takagi_for_the_win, please confirm which drivers you run in 1978.

Brabham has offered a contract to Niki Lauda, who also has offers by Lotus and Arrows:

1-33 signs for Brabham
34-67 signs for Lotus
68-100 signs for Arrows

52! Lauda signs for Lotus. So Brabham have to look for a second driver now. Carlos Pace is a free agent without a drive for example.

Ensign drivers next:

Clay Regazzoni has offers from Ensign and Williams

1-40 signs for Ensign
41-100 signs for Williams

7, Regazzoni signs for Ensign, but would go to Williams as a backup plan, if Ensign goes for Giacomelli/Cheever instead

Hasemi, Henton and Hoshino re-sign with Kojima, as they have no other options.

Same goes for Geoff Brabham, who signs for Fittipaldi.

Boro are going to fund their 1978 effort with pay drivers.

Ricardo Zunino

1-25 can't bring enough money
26-75 brings money for one race
76-90 brings money for two races
91-100 brings money for three races

95! Somehow Zunino gets the 97 500 which he needs for three races for Boro

Kunimitsu Takahashi
1-25 doesn't find enough money
26-75 finds sponsors for one race
76-90 finds sponsors for two races
91-100 gets enogh money together for three races

62, Takahshi gets enough money for one race in the Boro

Albert Poon
