I'm not cheating, cheating would be if I registere lots of false accounts and voted (so if Brawn gets a sackful of votes by people with very few posts today then we know that CH might be involved), or if I offered cash or other incentives for vote. Some fun stats....

44 people voted and cast 84 votes (as some didn't read and only cast a single vote).

One driver / team got 31% of all cast votes, one got 17% of votes and one got 8%...

One driver / team got 30% of first choice votes, one got 25% and one got 11%

One driver / team got 38% of second choice votes, one got 10% and 3 got 8%

6 drivers / teams got a single vote...

3 drivers / teams weren't even anywhere near the 2009 championship....

1 vote was not for a driver or team

Only 3 teams got a vote....

Drivers got 64% of the vote, teams got 25% of the vote, none 2009 drivers got 5% of the vote, one member of team personal got 1% of the vote and bits of a car got 1% of the vote.

For the average score for the votes cast for them, one scored 9.71 points, one 9.2 points and one 8.86 points.

For the average score for all votes cast, one scored 2.38 points, one 1.62 and one 0.74 points.

Captain Hammer is 35% more depressed and I am 65% more happier.

That was a reaction to the 65%. I'm not saying I hate Captain Hammer but I sure do hate his favourite driver/team

In true reject fashion, the IIDOTS-2009 results are late. I have collated and counted the votes the day the poll was closed, sent them to Jamie and Enoch =, who were kind enough to announce the winner on the season review podcast, and predictably it has taken me a week to listen to that specific podcast and remember that I needed to post it here.

Let me just point out that Enoch's explanation of what the IID is was spot on - if you missed it, go back to your MP3 player thingy and listen again - and that they have reconciled me with the results. More on that after the break.

I can't really post the votes here, because the loss of format makes it unreadable. The full season IID tables are available for download here. It's an Excel file, should be OK. Essentially, I eliminated anyone that wasn't a driver/team/team personnel competing this year. I also kept out HWNSNBM, because he's the winner by default.

Kamui Cowboy-ashi beats Brawn by a country mile and the two of them together have more points than the rest of the field.

It was only when listening to the season review that it struck me: indeed as Jamie said, if you had asked me before Melbourne who the best-ranking Japanese driver was going to be, I'd have said KazNak. Especially in a season with no testing. What's more, if a year ago you'd have told me a Japanese driver had secured a seat, on merit, for the 2010 season, I'd have voted for KazNak again. Cowboy-ashi saw off Trulli and became an instant hit with the F1 crowd at large, and even those among us that believe he is an inexperienced, unproven and lucky toss have sat up and taken notice. I am going to say I don't remember any Japanese driver securing an F1 drive without being helped along the way by a Japanese manufacturer or engine supplier. Great going. He's our man, and I am waiting for the moment when he'll do a Montoya on the returnee Michael Schumacher.

Brawn lost this one, then. Their only possibility, and they've gone and wasted it. Sad. Actually, now that we know the story and the details, maybe they weren't really so surprising as Cowboy-ashi, although they're certainly IID material.

As for everyone else... surprised Red Bull got so few votes. Also half-surprised Force India isn't further up (beaten by Rosberg!), and that Sutil was so far down the pecking order. Any ideas why?

Anyway, the collective wisdom of the F1Rejects community has spoken, and done so in the language of the Samurais. 2010 is looming ever closer, and IID will be back, in this format tried for the IIDOTS-2009. Any thoughts or suggestions?

As I understood the IIDotS was for the most improbable individual drive, i.e. in an individual race during the season. But a lot of the votes have been cast for composite performances through the season. On this basis any points given to teams (who do not drive) are invalid, as are Buttons points if given for a season long performance.

Sorry to be picky, but now might be a good time to clarify the rules and adjust points accordingly.

Ah, yes. Glad you brought that up. I noticed that on specific votes as well.

When coming up with the rules for the IIDOTS I neglected that bit. In my mind, it was the most impressive driver or team during the whole season - if you prefer, whomever was the most improbably good, consistently (did that sentence make any sense?). So, it was my cock up for not predicting people would interpret things otherwise. It's OK, in the end - I simply supposed anyone who voted in Fisico's Spa drive would have voted for Fisico either way.

I voted Fisi's Spa drive and I'm happy for that vote to stay. Sure he was useless the rest of the season but nobody saw that result coming.

1. Has to be Fisichella at Spa. He was pretty good up to that point and finally got the points he deserved. Shame his Ferrari career didnt work out.
2. Sebastien Buemi. I really thought he would be out of his depth due to being very young and the only rookie at the start of the season. He's not the next Vettel, but he's damn good.
