It's four from four for Watkinson! Can he finally finish where he started though? Quali was a disaster for the main title protagonists - championship leader Tajner will start down in 19th, while Hwok-Kwol Cho, only a point behind the Pole going into this race, is all the way down in 28th place!! Similarly, Vittore's Colin Peynirci had an absolute shocker, coming last by a long way, 1.8 seconds off of 38th placed O.N. Duck III!

It took him four races to do it, but Ashley Watkinson finally asserts himself on the championship with his first TRRS win! Watkinson was simply in a race of his own, always with a comfortable gap to those behind. The best of the rest was Franck van Nifterick, who has finally translated his good form in the Sprint Races to a meaningful result in the Feature.
With title contenders like Kwol-Cho and Tajner mired in the midfield, the battle for the final podium position was a free-for-all. Nathanael Cameron looked like he would take it, but a botched final stop ruined his race entirely, consigning him to the midfield. In the end, Boris Offenhauser had the race of his life - many were surprised to see him qualify in 6th, and none expected him to stay there. Instead of plummeting down the order as was expected, he instead rose to the occasion and snatched a podium place with both hands, excecuting some fine defensive driving late in the race to fend off former F2RWRS regular Gilles Massinion.

Watkinson gets the job done! The most notable thing being his main rival van Nifterick did not have a good race at all, dropping from 2nd to 6th by the end. Those 9 points make a world of difference going into the final race tomorrow, as those who weren't under the kosh championship-wise (Cameron, Jason, Offenhauser) were the ones that performed best. With a complete no-score, Tajner has gone from championship leader after Penrith to long-shot at the final race. Pellerin's nightmare also continued, only managing to take two positions on the road during the entire race. Schilling and Bruno also dropped out of the title race, having started the tournament so strongly, they fizzled out here, mired in the midfield.

And there it is! The first signs of faltering by Watkinson! If the race were to finish as they start, the Dutchman would sneak the title by a mere two points! He will have to step it up in the race to seal the championship. The other three contenders are massive long-shots going in, but Kwol-Cho has at least positioned himself well to sweep up following any mistakes from van Nifterick and Watkinson. Tajner and Jason, not so much - 11th and 29th puts them firmly out of the picture, and nothing short of career defining drives from each will earn them the title.

CHOKE! CHOKE! CHOKE! VAN NIFTERICK BOTTLED IT COMPLETELY! After quali he was sitting pretty, and he threw it all away! He couldn't hold his nerve, and in the end it was the more experienced Ashley Watkinson who powered through to take a commanding victory, his third on the bounce, to seal up the TRRS title. Similarly Kwol-Cho faltered, spinning away under pressure, and Tajner dropped like a stone. With Jason starting way down in lower midfield, he was never a factor, and it was left to Watkinson to blast his competition out of the water to lift the trophy. He started the year slowly, but really picked up his game in the second half of the competition.
Helena Boveri will also be disappointed, having started on the front row and dropping all the way out of the points to 13th.

TRRS: The Draft

It's post-season, and arguably the most critical moment for the championship; the draft! This is your moment to offer up contracts to drivers and be awarded with their DEC rights! Some will progress onto great things, some will able to keep their careers stringing along for that little bit longer, and some will hang up their helmet, with no interest in their services.

Drivers will wait for one week to see what offers come in for them, and after this point, will either decide to accept one of the offers that have come in for them, or perhaps reject all of them and bide their time, hoping for something better to be forthcoming. The better the offer and the more articulated it is, the better chance of success it will have, for example;

"I wish to sign Franck van Nifterick to RonDen's lead car of their works Ferrari GTRWC outfit on a two year deal" - VERY GOOD. The terms of the offer, in terms of where they will compete, their standing in the team, and the duration of the contract, is all set out. In the case of van Nifterick, he finished 4th in GTRWC the previous year, therefore an offer to be a works driver in the series he was previously in is a very attractive one.

"I wish to sign Klaus Walze to my management, and aim to find him a ride in ARST as soon as possible." - SATISFACTORY. This isn't the ideal kind of offer, but given most lineups for 2017 have already been decided, an understandable one. Drivers who have been sidelined for a while and/or don't have stellar reputations are more open to essentially signing up for 'agents' (i.e. new DEC holders without the guarantee of a drive right away), as their options are already severely limited. The driver will at least find comfort in this case that you have bothered to take his interests into account - in the case of Walze, his previous experience is in RTCC, the main canon touring car championship, making a drive in ARST his most realistic option to continue his racing career.

"I wish to sign Nathanael Cameron for ACO Le Mans Cup." - POOR. This has two main flaws; firstly, the lack of detail in terms of which team he will race for and how long the offered contract is. But also critical here is the ignorance of Cameron's career up until now - he has been an F3RWRS front-runner for a number of seasons now, and will be eager to make the jump to either F2RWRS or AR3.5. The Le Mans Cup is Endurance racing, a discipline which is mostly populated by drivers who either previously drove in F1RWRS, have spent many years in F2RWRS/F3RWRS/AR3.5 without much success or are gentlemen racers. Given Cameron's high standing in junior formulae, such an offer wouldn't interest him, as it shows you have little interest in him either.

"I want to sign Akira Kobayashi." - UNACCEPTABLE. All offers of this nature will be ignored. Given the person making the request has not specified their intentions for the driver in any way shape or form, they have no way of judging whether the offer would be in their best interests or not, and will therefore take no notice of said offer.

All driver contracts will be settled by RNG. You will recieve a bonus to your RNG odds if the driver you are bidding for was one you selected for your TRRS team at the start of the season. Also, when you sign a driver, you are committing to retaining their DEC for a minimum one one canon year (i.e. until January 2018), althogh it is permissible to take a DEC and then have him drive for someone else's team.

So, to summarise; do your research, and give your marks something to get interested about! Half-hearted offers won't go down very well with the drivers looking for their way back into canon racing. Unless of course your name is Andraz Velikonja, and you finished last overall in the championship - he'd take just about anything he's so desperate!

All drivers will evaluate and decide on contract offers made at 1800 BST (1900 CET) on Saturday 6 September! However, some drivers may still be available after this date.

DRIVER CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS ARE OPEN! Have at it lads!

Racing Team Solvalou wishes to sign Frank van Nifterick to be the second driver in the #02 Factory Lamborghini Murcialago to a One Year Contract, with an option for Two additional years depending on race performances during the 2017 Season. After the performances late in the season by both Kuntz and van Nifterick, RTS feel that if they were to partner up in the same car that they both would be title contenders in the series for seasons to come, and top draws for the top tin-top racing series in the world. Rather than be lost in the shuffle in a multi-formula championship driving in a slower class.

Racing Team Solvalou also wishes to sign Luc Pellerin to drive the #15 car in the AutoReject 3.5 Series to a Two Year Contract. If Pellerin is to win the championship in his first year, RTS will assist Pellerin in finding a seat in another series as he will not be able to fullfill his contractual obligations because of the rules for AR 3.5.



Note: Anyone who wishes to sign Ernest Bruno must remember that he is racing in AR STS this year for his own team on a limited basis. If anyone signs him, those five race weekends take priority over whatever else he may be doing so a replacement driver may be required for those dates.

Note 2: Anyone who signs Adrián Rojo Fernández will also get the rights to use the Team Rojo name as well, since that is the team AR Fernández owns.

Biscione's draft picks.

ASHLEY WATKINSON
Voeckler Talent Troupe wish to take on Ashley Watkinson full-time as a client, with a view to finding him a top drive in the Indy World Cup. Given his experience in F1RWRS and cult-status in the series, Voeckler see him as a flagship signing for the series and a key personality to drive the championship's popularity in Europe to new heights. In the much longer term, once Watkinson has decided to call time on his single-seater career, they wish to progress him into sportscars, where Voeckler currently run the works Maserati outfit in GTRWC and the works NISMO team in ACO LMC.
Given his vast experience in F1RWRS, Voeckler also hope to deploy him in private mid-season test sessions from time to time for the forseeable future to aid with car development, alongside any of his other duties.

TOMIWSLAW TAJNER
Again, Voeckler Talent Troupe do not at this time have a guaranteed seat for Tajner, but see him as a positive addition to the Indy World Cup, adding depth to the field with a solid fan-base in Eastern Europe. Given Voeckler's in-depth involvement in the series, and that teams will recieve a bonus for hiring ex-F1RWRS drivers in the series, Tajner should find few problems in securing a drive in IWC with Voeckler Talent Troupe's guidance.

STEVEN MACKINTOSH
Once again, there is no guaranteed seat for Mackintosh at this time, but VTT wish to take him on as a client, looking to find him a seat in either the upcoming Indy World Cup, or in an LMP seat in the ACO Le Mans Cup.

ADRIAN ROJO FERNANDEZ
Voeckler GPE are looking to absorb the entire Rojo operation into Voeckler's stable. Together with Rojo, a new Indy team will be launched, using the drivers already contracted to the existing Mastercard team (Pratchett + Christopherson), along with a feeder outfit for the Indy team, plus a Central/South American oriented driver farm in the CRS. Adrian himself will continue to make sporadic appearances in tin-tops, for example in the US round of GTRWC and selected ARST events.

CESAR VIALPONDO
Assuming Voeckler GPE successfully merges with Rojo, we are looking to take on Vialpondo as Rojo's first young driver. Given the metronomic consistency he demonstrated in TRRS, we feel he is best suited to endurance racing, and Rojo/Voeckler will look to place him in an ACO LMC seat. Our priority is to find him an LMP2 drive, however we will consider placing him in a GT team if the offer from said category is of a higher standard than anything on offer in LMP2. He will also be given a chance in GTRWC, as co-pilot to Rojo boss Adrian Rojo Fernandez in GTRWC's US round.

Sounds reasonable to offer exactly that RonDen Racing engineering offers all top 5 drivers their free spot in the Coupe Du Mans. Driving a works Ferrari is an honour for every self-respecting racing driver.

Has driven for Kamaha before and was a reserve driver in 2016, would have been given a race drive if not for his management going a bit insane, we therefore would like to offer him first reserve driver status with Kamaha for 2017 with a gaurantee of at least two tests this season and one for 2018 for a chance of a seat in the team. Knowing how many drivers Kamaha got through in 2016, there is a strong possibility of a drive for 2017.

Luc Pellerin
Would like to offer him second reserve driver status at Kamaha, we gaurantee at least one test this season and a test for 2018 to drive for the team proper. I hear that Prince Falik wants a reserve driver for his F2RWRS Falik Arrows team (and I believe Luc Pellerin still is eligible for F2RWRS), if Yuka or Hwok underperform or are injured then he will get a chance at a F2RWRS drive.

Hwok Kwol-Cho
We offer him again a full time drive offer for the Falik Arrows F2RWRS team for 2017 as equal number one driver (he drove for the F3RWRS team in 2016) with an option on his services for 2018.

Since ASTRO have links in most major series, Nath is guaranteed seats with us as long as he performs. He wouldn't have to relocate either, as we're conveniently based in the UK.

Cezary Samelko
If Cezary signs with Nebula, he is automatically guaranteed a GTRWC seat alongside Leandro Moreira with the Pirtek Racing by Pulsar team. He has the chance to reinvigorate his career in sportscars with us, should he choose to accept.

Viktor Pasitchnjuk
As Viktor has previous experience in RoLFS and IFRC, the predecessors of AR3.5, PDT will attempt to try to gain a seat for him in AR3.5. Viktor may also be able to compete in the next running of the Aston Endurance Race with Speed Collective Racing.

Steven Mackintosh
Steven, having been a F1RWRS driver (albeit for Mecha), is perfect for a F1RWRS testing role or IWC drive, which PDT will attempt to get for him. Failing that, AR3.5 could be an option.

Tanner Jason
Tanner Jason has vast F2RWRS and RoLFS experience, as well as experience testing for Aeroracing in F1RWRS. As such, PDT will attempt to gain either a F1RWRS test role, F2RWRS drive, IWC drive or AR3.5 drive.

The Forgotten Men: Three TRRS drivers who are overlooked, but shouldn't be

The new-for-2017 draft has been designed to give careers on the brink of fading away entirely a jolt of energy, a second chance, a new lease of life. There has been huge interest in the obvious big names like Ashley Watkinson, but this natural gravitation towards the big names have left some of the good performers with less established reptuations in the dark. Gazzetta reviews three drivers who've not had a word said about them in the rumour mill, but perhaps should be under consideration for many teams out there with a vacancy to fill.

Boris Offenhauser
Back in his CART days, he was a solid midfielder who would, on occasion, deliver big. The cars he drove back then were not the best package - his car was powered by a Lada engine for christ's sake! Had it not been for the utterly bizarre season finale in Atlanta, he would have been by far the best driver using the Russian powerplant.

Arguably he was never given a platform with which to prove his ability - but now he has. Given how long he's been out of the game, it was a real surprise to see him consistently in the Top 10 during the TRRS season. Given he's shown that he can shake off his race-rustiness with relative ease, he could be worth a punt for a small Indy team looking for an experienced pair of hands.

Verdict:
Despite the length of time he's been absent from single seaters, he hasn't forgotten how to race them. A return to Indianapolis beckons?

Ernest Bruno
Bruno suffered the ignomy of racing for what can only be described as the Life Racing Engines of GTRWC. A big red lump of garbage that was miles off the pace. The Viper's last good years were back in the early 2000s, so what one was doing on the grid in 2016 we aren't really sure. Luxray proved there was at least an ounce of pace to be extracted from the car, but Aero Kings were being run like nobody even cared. So bad was the Aero King farce, when it came to picking lineups for the TRRS season, he was ignored by all, only making his way onto the grid via Academy scholarship. While Walze and Bandini failed to do anything meaningful with their gifts from the organisers, Bruno took the opportunity with both hands.

He's still something of an unknown quantity - having never been in a competitive car before in tin-tops, his form could go either way. But his performances at Singapore were excellent for someone who lost their last drive all the way back in April.

Verdict:
He is a gamble, but given how the equipment at his disposal was so poor previously, he can easily earn himself a lower license from the ACO, and so could be of interest to GT teams looking for someone to ensure they get Amateur classification while not compromising badly on quality.

Cesar Vialpondo
Going into TRRS, he was nothing more than an also-ran, an easily discarded extra from F3RWRS, the kind that turns up as a replacement for some unfortunate soul whose money ran out, and is also sucked dry of all cash before being cast astray for the next name plucked out of a hat or man with a suitcase full of money. The world assumed it had heard the last from Vialpondo, but it seems Cesar had other ideas.

He last drove at a competitive level all the way back in 2014, driving a part-season from Aeroracing. He wasn't heard from again after that, until suddenly popping up on the applicants list of TRRS. He wanted a second bite of the cherry. Not a soul thought it would amount to anything, but it appears we were all wrong. He wasn't flashy, he didn't put in one-off astounding performances, instead just grinding away and picking up points wherever he went. While some drivers like Julia Schilling and Tomislaw Tajner were utterly inconsistent (they picked up all their championship points in a single race), Vialpondo got on the scoresheet consistently. His pace didn't set the world on fire, but there's something to be said for simply being able to keep the car on the island at all costs.

Verdict:
He needs more track time to get him back up to speed, but he was possibly the most level-headed driver in the entire championship. With such consistency and a cool temperament, turning his attention to endurance racing could be a good career move.

Blokkmonsta Motorsport wishes to sign one driver from this series for the 2017 AR 3.5 season.

We need a consistent driver with experience that can replace Malik Zidan, for we believe he needs more experience in lower formula. However, we also wish to allow Zidan the option to run a round of AR 3.5 later in the season if we so choose, though whoever we sign will be main priority for the 2017 season, and will have number 1 status on the team when we expand into a 2-car team the following year.

Here are our bids, in order of priority:

Tanner Jason
Despite his controversial departure from RoLFS, we view that he still has plenty of experience that showed in this season of Toyota Rejects. We are willing to give him a 2nd chance, since we view his skills far outweighing his blackmarks.

Boris Offenhauser
His experience in open-wheelers cannot be ignored, and his top 10 performance in Toyota Rejects shows that he is adept at racing in more European-centric open-wheelers as well. We understand that he wishes to return to Indycar, but due to the lack of attention American series are getting in this motorsport group we hope that Offenhauser takes note of our offer to race in more Euro-centric and Asia-centric series.

National Petroleum's "Champions of the Future" programme is interested in hiring the following:

Nathanael Cameron
Nathanael has had an excellent single seater career up until now and deserves to be given the opportunity to develop that career further. To that end, National Petroleum would like to offer Cameron a place on their programme immediately, initially for a two year period, with additional options for future extension. Cameron will be placed firstly as the official reserve driver for Jones Racing's F2RWRS and AR3.5 teams, and will be made immediately available to drive for another team in the series should a race seat become open. In addition, Cameron will have the opportunity to test Jones Racing's 2017 F1RWRS car in at least one test during the 2017 season. For 2018, Cameron will be offered a seat at Jones Racing in his preference of F2RWRS or AR3.5 whilst also becoming an official reserve driver for Jones' F1RWRS team which will include significant testing opportunities.

Steven Mackintosh
When given the opportunity, Steven has demonstrated his high quality driving ability behind the wheel. Unfortunately those opportunities have been few and far between in his career so far. National Petroleum would like to offer Steven a place on their programme for two years to give him the ideal platform for him to showcase to the racing community that he has lost none of that ability. The two year contract includes an option to continue further into the future. With a good deal of F1RWRS experience already under his belt, Steven will be immediately given the opportunity to test the Jones Racing 2017 F1RWRS car in at least two tests this year, and will also be made a reserve driver for the Jones Racing F2RWRS and AR3.5 teams, whilst simultaneously being made available to drive in races for other teams in either series should a race seat open up. For 2018, Steven will have a seat reserved in his preferred category of AR3.5 or F2RWRS, whilst he will also be available to sign for any F1RWRS teams that show interest in him, and National Petroleum will subsequently financially support any move into the top tier to help him find a seat.

TRRS Draft: First Round

It's that time! The draft choices have been made, let's see what the drivers have decided, via the magic lottery of RNG!

RNG ranges for drivers who were made offers by Voeckler (my team) were independently adjudicated by both Phoenix and tommykl in the interests of fairness.

#1 Ashley Watkinson
Watkinson had offers from Kamaha to do some testing for them, Voeckler wanted to direct him straight into an Indy World Cup seat, and RonDen wanted him for their works Ferrari assault on Le Mans. What did RNG decide...?
VOECKLER! Watkinson's DEC goes to Biscione.

#2 Franck van Nifterick
van Nifterick has two big teams in for him - a works Ferrari ride and also a works Lambo ride in GTRWC. He's been leaning heavily towards RTS of late, but his decision is...
RONDEN! A bit of a surprise there, every man and his dog assumed he would end up at RTS. This becomes van Nifterick's DEC holder.

#3 Luc Pellerin
Pellerin has three options in three different series - an AR 3.5 ride with RTS or reserve gig with Kamaha. He was on Ferrari's shortlist, but they've already picked up van Nifterick.
RTS! Pellerin's DEC is now in the ownership of RealRacingRoots

#4 Hwok Kwol-Cho
Ferrari were interested in him but went in another direction, and so he signs on the dotted line for FALIK ARROWS! Kwol-Cho's DEC now belongs to SuperAguri.

#5 Tomislaw Tajner
He really wanted the Ferrari drive, but after hiring van Nifterick he instead elects to sign with VOECKLER. Tajner is now on Biscione's DEC.

#6 Steve Mackintosh
Loads of agents in for Stevie Mac. Voeckler, Jones and Peak Driver Talent are all interested in reperesenting him. But Jones committed something of a gaffe - they wanted him to become an F2RWRS reserve, despite being ineligible for such a position because of the rules! That oversight hurt their chances a bit, and in the end he made the surprise decision of going with PEAK DRIVER TALENT! Congratulations V8fan12, Mackintosh is yours!

#7 Tanner Jason
Tanner is a controversial figure following his involvement in the Nobushige Fukuda tragedy in 2015. He elected to retire after that race, but follwing a year's sabbatical, has elected to try and stage a comeback, using TRRS as a platform. And it worked, because he decided to sign for the AR 3.5 team of BLOKKMONSTA MOTORSPORT! Looks like CaptainGetz12 has an interesting situation on his hands.

#8 Pablo Galaz
Galaz is one of many Rojo refugees, and he has two offers - AR 3.5 with Chris Short Racing, or AR 2.0 for Echoften....which he isn't even eligible to compete in, both for experience and age reasons. It's a straightforward decision and Galaz signs for CHRIS SHORT! His DEC is transferred to RonDenisDeletraz.

#9 Julia Schilling
Another Rojo refugee, she has only one offer, for ICE-3 Racing's GTRWC outfit. With no other offfers forthcoming, she signs the deal with ICE-3 RACING! Her ownership moves across to Rated.

#10 Boris Offenhauser
Offenhauser had an offer from Blokkmonsta for AR 3.5, but that quickly vanishes as they opt for Tanner Jason instead, and so it's an easy decision for Boris, who signs for DREADNOUGHT RACING! Tristan1117 takes his DEC for good measure.

TRRS Phase Two announced

With the first draft complete, some drivers have been left on the sidelines, still looking for a way back into motorsport.

These drivers get one last roll of the dice with a bumper race weekend at Eastern Creek, hoping to impress and garner some interest in an attempt to save their careers.

With big names like Watkinson and Cameron already gone, it will be left to less high profile names to fight for the unofficial 'Last Chance Saloon' mini-championship, which will use a different points system to the regular championship (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1).

Expected to be near the front during the run-off series are Alexey Pchelintsev and Cesar Vialpando, who were far quicker in the regular championship than the others who remain along with them on the sidelines.

"It's a big shame my deal fell through in the end, but it's good that TRRS gives us this extra chance to show what we can do," said Vialpando. "I felt my performance in the regular season was really strong, and I think I can take overall victory now that the most experienced drivers like Watkinson, guys who are proven at the highest level, have moved on. The talented rookies will get a chance to shine now."

The race weekend will take place on February 18-19th.

New drivers join TRRS for Eastern Creek run-off

Two new faces will enter TRRS for the Eastern Creek weekend, having failed to find drives for the 2017 season so far.

Former F3RWRS racer Herberto Dominguez, who scored 22 points in his debut season in the category, joins the category alongside fellow Imperial Racing Systems refugee John Bovy, who raced part-time in GTRWC last season.

Bovy also previously raced in Formula One, racking up 16 points in his only season for Lola Cars back in 2010.

John Bovy converts his pole into a comfortable victory. He wasn't challenged all day, and kept the rest of the field at arms length. Pchelintsev made up the ground he lost in quali and took a good second place. Drive of the day though goes to Cieslar, who recovered from outside the Top 10 to finish in 4th, so close to making it a podium finish had it not been for Yagami's solid defensive driving the dying laps. John Bean will be disappointed not to finish, he was on to secure a good result.

GIUSEPPE COLOMBO! WOW! Where did that come from?! Colombo didn't even get picked from the main TRRS season, hadn't done much of note so far in the Last Chance Saloon, and suddenly at the death he blasts his way from 7th to 1st! A man on a mission, clearly.
However, in terms of the championship battle, Bovy kept his head when those around him were losing theirs. With Cieslar and Bean starting so far down the order, he knew all he realistically had to do was finish on the podium to take the title. And that he did, 2nd place just being enough to stave off the hard charging Cieslar, who tried desperately to claw his way up the field into a position that would see him edge Bovy on overall points. In the end he fell short, and only just edged out Vialpando for 5th on the last lap. The other protagonist John Bean was nowhere to be seen, languishing well out of the points. Yagami was not much of a factor to start with either, and in the end he took himself out of contention, crashing under the pressure to make up positions to Bovy.

For 2017, Atlas will look to place Alexey in suitable temporary roles at ARST teams with vacancies over the year, whilst he will also have the opportunity to be official reserve driver for Jones Racing's AR3.5 single seater race team and assume driving duties should either main driver be sidelined at any point during the year.
