Nope, they are yours.

now 8 of the 12 teams either already have an engine or are bidding for one.

The teams that I have yet to hear from are:
Williams, Jordan, Minardi and Prost. With Prost, Jordan and Williams also yet to decide their reserve drivers.

Is Ferrari interested in signing an engine deal with Jordan?

If that fails we would like to bit for the following engines:
Mercedes 6m$
BMW 5.5m$
Honda 3.5m$

Our test driver will be Alexander Wurz.

Not for this season, we are not. However, Arrows's Ferrari deal is only secure for 2001, so you can prepare your bids for 2002. I take draft picks, money, parts and/or driver slots.

The bidding has been complete, I can now reveal who will be running what engine for 2001.

Engine RNG Results.

Volkswagen
Bids, Sauber 3 Million (First Choice) Prost 3.5 Million (3rd Choice)
Chance of winning bid:
1-66 Sauber 67-99 Prost 100 - Not entering F1
Sauber have a German Nick Heidfeld as lead driver and the better reputation, so get the better odds.

The number is 15, Sauber will run VW power.

VW are entering F1 for the first time and there is a chance that Prost will also get their engines.
1-25 Prost also get VW power, 26-100 VW stick with just Sauber.

The number is 12, should Prost fail to get Audi or Holden backing they will run VW engines.

Mercedes
Bids 5: McLaren 4 Million, Benetton 6.5 Million, Williams 5 Million (2nd choice) Jordan 6 Million, Minardi 6 Million

1-35 McLaren, 36-75 Benetton, Williams 76-86, Jordan 87-94, Minardi 95-100
Mercedes have a good chance of staying with McLaren power, but Benetton have put forward a huge offer and have some attractive drivers so have a strong chance. Jordan and Minardi have offered big money but perhaps don't have the reputation to sway Mercedes.

The number is 45, Benetton's offer was too good to refuse.

Mercedes have the possibility of providing for another team
1-33 Mercedes, 34-40 Williams, 41-46 Jordan, 47-50 Minardi

8, McLaren. Mercedes feel they can't abandon McLaren just yet, so they will supply 2 teams this year.

There is even an outside chance Mercedes can power a 3rd team:
1-4 Williams, 5-7 Jordan, 8-9 Minardi 10+ No One
69. Mercedes feel expanding to 2 teams is enough.

This confirms that Minardi will be running Toyota engines.

BMW
Bids 3: Williams 5 Million, Bar 5 Million, Jordan 5.5 Million

1-66 Williams, 67-85 BAR, 86-100 Jordan

Williams ran BMW last year and wish to continue the partnership, with Jorg Muller as tester the odds are good, BAR have also put forward a strong offer whilst Jordan have also thrown their hat in to the ring.

58- Williams. BMW wish to continue the progress made in 2000.
But BAR and Jordan will still want BMW engines too, can BMW supply them?
1-33 BAR, 34-50 Jordan, 51-100 No One

82- BMW feel exclusivity is important.

Audi
Bids 2: BAR 4.5 Million, Prost 3.5 Million
1-80 BAR, 81-100 Prost

BAR offer the more money and come in with the bigger reputation, though Prost really want the Audi engine over all others so that gives them a chance.

79-BAR
Audi weighed up both options, but ultimately BAR offered the better deal.

Audi are very unlikely to be able to supply 2 teams, but Prost will try anyway,
1-10 Prost 11-100 Nope
51, Audi will stick with just BAR.

Honda.
Bids 1: Jordan
1-100 Jordan
With all the other bidders sealing engine contracts, Honda gladly took Jordan's offer.

Holden
Bids 1: Prost 3.5 Million

1-33 Prost 34-100 Holden do not enter F1

Holden had been attracted to F1 by McLaren, but ultimately McLaren went with Mercedes, never-the-less Prost picked up on the project and made a bid. Holden are most likely going to wait a year before trying again, but money now can't hurt.

The number is 32. Prost manage to get the Holden engines, so the VW deal falls through, what an adventurous day for Prost!

Final Engine Configurations

Arrows - Ferrari (Cost £O)
Ferrari - Ferrari
McLaren - Mercedes (Cost £4 Million)
Williams - BMW (Cost £5 Million)
Benetton - Mercedes (Cost £6.5 Million)
BAR - Audi (Cost 4.5 Million)
Jordan - Honda (Cost 3.5 Million)
Sauber - VW (Cost 3 Million)
Jaguar - Cosworth
Minardi - Toyota (Cost £0)
Prost - Holden (Cost £3.5 Million)
Toyota

I can also reveal that the AI team will be... Asiatech and they will of course run the Asiatech engine. Drivers TBC (I am taking Nominations!)

2001 F1 Season Preview

Please not this is before the game has been loaded so is based on Engines, Drivers and Reputation.

Arrows - Ferrari
1. Michael Schumacher
2. Pedro Diniz
TD. Felipe Massa

Arrows have shocked everybody over the preseason period, breaking a deal with Ferrari to run Ferrari engines and signing 3 times and reigning world champion Michael Schumacher to drive for them! Pedro Diniz has been bought in to help balance the funds but he is a somewhat reliable driver in his own right. With rising rookie Felipe Massa has been bought in as the the tester. Arrows come into the season looking stronger than perhaps any time in their history and will be hoping for points and podiums this season, with a bit of luck they might even get that first win, perhaps if it starts raining Michael Schumacher can bring some magic.
But the facilities at Arrows are poor and the base car is unlikely to be up with the best during the early rounds. World Championship Prediction: 5th.

Ferrari
3.Rubens Barrichello
4.Jean Alesi
TD.Michael Andretti

Ferrari caused a stir when they decided to drop champion Michael Schumacher, they have decided Barrichello is ready to be the team number 1 and will lead the charge this year. Any upset Ferrari fans over Schumie should be calmed by the return of Ferrari legend Jean Alesi. Some say Alesi's best days are behind him but he will be motivated with a fresh shot with the prancing horse. Michael Andretti as test driver proves Ferrari have a sense of humor. Ferrari have the best engine and the best facilities and 2 experienced steady hands, should they remain mistake free then I predict Ferrari to hold on to the World Championship, though there are a couple of teams that can run them close. World Championship prediction: 1st.

McLaren - Mercedes
5.Luca Badoer
6.Kimi Raikkoonen
TD: Ryan Briscoe

Bizzare is the world that describes McLaren's driver line up. Luca Badoer is a veteran who has scored 0 F1 points, perhaps McLaren saw him as a good cash value grad and hope he can bring Ferrari secrets with him, but team leader is a big step for the Italian! Whilst Kimi Raikkonen may be fast, he only has 13 openwheel car races under his belt so is a massive gamble! Ryan Briscoe is another youngster in the TD role. Nobody doubts McLaren can build a big car, but the drivers are a gamble, though the Merc engines will give McLaren an advantage. World Championship prediction: 3rd

Williams - BMW
7.Jacques Villeneuve
8.Gil de Ferran
TD.Jorg Muller

Williams unsurprisingly managed to keep BMW engines this year and have bought 1997 world champion VIlleneuve back into the team. Jacques needs to show he hasn't lost his edge after 2 years of noncompetitive cars but he should comfortably be fighting for wins this season. Gil de Ferran may be a rookie in F1 but he is veteran racer from the states so should be seen as reliable, how fast he will be remains to be seen but Williams are confident he can deliver. Jorg Muller is BMW through and through and mostly there for the sake of the engine manufacturer, but there is no doubt he would be capable if he is needed to step in. Williams look to return to championship form and they have a real chance of doing so this season. World Championship prediction: 2nd

Benetton - Mercedes
9.Juan Pablo Montoya
10.Fernando Alonso
TD.Pedro de la Rosa

Benetton have an interesting line up, Montoya is the hottest property in US racing after winning the champ car championship in 1999 and the Indy 500 last year on his first attempt! Montoya should be fast in an F1 car, just hope he keeps it on the black stuff. Fernando Alonso is also a great prospect, he is only 19 but has shown good form in formula 3000 and has been marked as 1 to watch. Should either driver flop, Pedro de la Rosa is more than capable of stepping in, the Spaniard slightly disappointed not to have a race drive. The Mercedes engines represent an incredible capture for Benetton, hopefully they have built a car that gives the engine justice. World Championship Prediction: 4th

BAR-Audi
11.Heinz Harold Frentzen
12.Dario Franchitti
TD.Marc Hynes

BAR are a team with a plan, they had the 2nd choice of driver and they picked Frentzen! BAR had originally wanted BMW power but it wasn't to be, but Audi power is a good substitute, 1 year of development behind BMW aside. Frentzen is a great team leader and will prove the ideal benchmark for Dario Franchitti, Dario afterall was 2nd tied on points with Montoya in CART in 1999, so shouldn't be slow. Marc Hynes has testing expirience with BAR and the British youngster has shown great speed in F3, he isn't F1 ready yet but hopes to learn as a tester. BAR made big steps in 2000, but have a bit of a barrier to break if they want to climb any higher, but should the car prove reliable then points and even podiums will come. World Championship Prediction: 6th

Jordan-Honda
14.David Coulthard
15.Jenson Button
TD. Alexander Wurz

Jordan were very unlucky not to get the engines they really wanted, but Honda power is certainly decent. They surprised many by announcing David Coulthard to be their lead driver, a costly purchase but Coulthard does have the skill to back it up. Jenson Button had a great rookie campaign for Williams and should keep Coulthard on his toes as the number 2. Alex Wurz is about as dependable a tester as you can get. Jordan have proven fast but fragile in recent years and this trend may well continue. Jordan are not weak by any stretch, but the teams ahead are strong and Jordan will need to run to keep up. World Championship Prediction: 7th

Sauber-VW
16.Nick Heidfeld
17.Mark Webber
TD.Enrique Bernoldi

Sauber have been doing their own thing over the preseason and have quietly assembled a fairly strong engine/driver package. Heidfeld may be a little young to be leading a team but has proven dependable whilst Mark Webber looks to be a very fast rookie, getting strong results in Formula 3000. Bernoldi has a big wallet if not anything else of note! VW are a huge company to attract into F1 and it will be interesting to see if this partnership brings fruit. A reliable solid car could reap big rewards, but there are faster teams ahead. World Championship Prediction: 8th

Jaguar - Ford
18.Ralf Schumacher
19.Olivier Panis
TD.Damon Hill

Jaguar came in to 2000 with big name drivers hoping for success that did not come. This year they come in with big name drivers bullish for success. Ralf and Panis should be fast, but it is hard to see Jaguar doing any better this year. Regardless, if the car is reliable they will score points and the real goal is to get more than last season, this should be achievable. Jaguar have a big budget and in the long run should be right up there, but for 2001, World Championship Prediction: 9th

Minardi - Toyota
20.Giancarlo Fisichella
21.Jarno Trulli
TD.Alex Yoong

Minardi have their strongest drive line up in years and a strong Toyota engine behind them, so things are looking up. Will this move them far up the grid? Probably not but Fisichella and Trulli are the drivers to do it should things fall in Minardi's favor. Finances look good for Minardi for once, but should things go south Alex Yoong is there to bring some aid. World Championship Prediction: 11th

Prost - Holden
22.Takuma Sato
23.Gaston Mazzacane
TD.Sarah Fisher

Prost managed to turn a few heads securing the powerful but heavy new Holden package, a tricky engine to wield for even the best of drivers, to give this task to Takuma Sato and Mazzacane seems somewhat suicidal but could be entertaining at least. Sato represents the best Japan have to offer and has some potential, Mazzacane is the definition of "the pay driver." Prost have had some poor years and it would take some luck for that streak to be broken. World Championship Prediction:12th

Toyota
24.Kenny Brack
25.Mika Hakkinen
TD.HWNSNBM

Toyota have entered F1 and an exciting project it looks to be. With the 98-99 world champion Mika Hakkinen onboard and US racing legend Kenny Brack the drivers mean that even though 2001 is a little early to enter they have massive ambitions. HWNSNBM, is an unknown entity from Hungary.
It is very hard to predict where Toyota will be coming in as a totally new team, but they should be faster than Minardi and Prost at least, so my conservative World Championship prediction is 10th.

Asiatech
26.Riccardo Rosset
27.Jos Verstappen

Ahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Championship Prediciton: Lels

Team Personnel Mega Post.

Now before I continue I will explain, every team needs staff. The more staff you have the faster you can develop parts, the more time you have to have the car ready between rounds, the better next years car will be. So I will now post staff numbers (and cost) for each department. There are 4 departments. Design, Engineering, Mechanical and Commercial. The first 3 work together to make the car work and lacking in one of those 3 areas slows down the work in the other 2. Whilst the last area, Commercial, is what you need to attract sponsors. The better the commercial department the better luck you will have with sponsors.

Each department has a department head and a team of assistants. The Dept. head will be rated out of 5 stars.

For each department the quality is divided into 5 tiers. Excellent (E) Very Good (VG) Good (G) Average (A) and Trainee (T). With each level a different salary.

First off, we have the Design Department.
costs per assistant:
Excellent £75,000
Very Good £69,000
Good £63,000
Average £57,000
Trainee £51,000

Ferrari (19) 10E, 9VG. Department Cost 1.026 Million
McLaren (20) 10E, 10VG. Department Cost 1.070 Million
Sauber (7) 7E. Department Cost 0.480 Million
Jordan (21) 10E, 10VG, 1G. Department Cost 1.092 Million
BAR (8) 8E Department Cost 0.516 Million
Benetton (1) 1E, Department cost 0.180 Million
Arrows (2) 2E. Department Cost 0.222 Million
Jaguar (2) 2E, Department Cost 0.222 Million
Prost (6) 6E, Department Cost 0.408 Million
Minardi (4) 4E, Department Cost 0.300 Million
Toyota (2) 2E, Department Cost 0.228 Million

Now if you wish to change the numbers you don't have to go fetch your calculator! If you like you can tell me what you want to do such as "make the department cost X" or "hire X number of X assistants" or "sack all the X assistants" or whatever you want.

The maximum number of assistants per tier is 50. So in theory you could have 250 assistants in each department (but I wouldn't recommend doing that!)

Financially, the most important aspect of the game is sponsorship, this ultimately could determine the difference between death and survival. There are a limited number of sponsors and an even more limited amount of good ones.

Sponsors are divided by wealth tiers lke so:

To get things started, HSBC are willing to sponsor any team, however they are only prepared to pay for 5 slots (this could be 5 slots of 1 team or 1 slot on 5 teams or any combo that adds up to 5.)

Image

Whilst the cars and race suits are divided into different cash paying sections, an engine cover add is worth much more than a spot on the drivers left ankle!

There is more news, if you add up all the sponsors and all the possible sponsor areas, it is IMPOSSIBLE for every car to be fully sponsored, you are in direct competition with each other to get sponsors. You can attempt to attract sponsors by dividing your time with them (out of 100%) so for example you could focus 50% of time on Pepsi, 25% on Red Bull and 25% on Vodafone.

If you wish to have the free HSBC sponsorship let me know, but be warned it will last all 16 races and is the lowest possible amount of money you can make from a sponsor.

WIlliams will sign HSBC in spots T, F, O, S and M, and allocate the following sponsorship time to the following sponsors:

Pepsi: 37%
Panasonic: 37%
FedEx: 26%

To help our goal, we'll hire an extra 10 staff for each of our departments, bringing our numbers up to 50 excellent for each

Williams running at 110%!

I'll keep the HSBC sponsorship open for everyone (not first come first serv) and decide it by RNG, but if you are the only one who wants it it will be no problem.

You staff bill now runs at over $10 million
