Well done to Munoz on his first podium finish in IndyCar bar the 500.

Not to mention he pipped his legendary compatriot Montoya to it as well.

Congrats to Mike Conway for the win. Looks like having a specialist for each type of track sharing a season really does work.
Recent news are that Mikhail Aleshin's sponsor SMP Racing had their European bank accounts frozen due to the partial occupation of Ukraine
http://www.motorsport-total.com/usracin ... ga_from=bnAnd in the article, it is mentioned that a certain
Sergey Zlobin is sport director of SMP. I remember that name from the F1Rejects podcast. Isn't that the guy who used to drive for Team Russia in A1-GP?

Looks like Aleshin's gonna lose his ride if that happens. What a shame given his run at Long Beach.

Franck Montagny who used to be the test driver for the Renault F1 Team during their successful Alonso/Fisichella years and is most prominent on this website for his several race starts with the SuperAguri F1 team, has been announced as the man to pilot the #26 car of Andretti Autosport in the Indycar USGP, pardon, the Grand Prix of Indianapolis on the 10th of May.
The team will field the car in the next race after that, too, the Indy 500, albeit with another driver, NASCAR's very own Kurt Bush, as has been widely publicised already. Hence, Montagny is cast once again as tester for the stars.
In spite of this, I guess you all agree with me when I say he is very much a star in his own right and it's good to see him make another cameo in IndyCar.

From reading preliminary entry lists on the web, we are to expect the following drivers of various relevance to this website to appear in qualifying and the race of the 98th running of the "Indianapolis International 500-Mile Sweepstakes" on Sunday, 25th of May, 2014 (in order of relevance and car number ... F1 rejects first):
Car # - Driver Name - associated with these F1 teams - F1 Reject status - current position on the "Reject Of the Race" leaderboard - Verizon IndyCar Series entrant
#11 - Sebastien Bourdais - former Scuderia Toro Rosso driver - eligible to this site - joint 50th - KV / SH Racing
#19 - Justin Wilson - former Minardi and Jaguar F1 driver - eligible to this site - Dale Coyne Racing
# 8 - Ryan Briscoe - former Toyota F1 test driver - not eligible - Chip Ganassi Racing
#14 - Takuma Sato - former Jordan, BAR / Honda and SuperAguri driver - not eligible - joint 11th - AJ Foyt Racing
# 2 - Juan Pablo Montoya - former Williams and McLaren driver - not eligible - 14th - Team Penske
# 5 - Jacques Villeneuve - former F1 WDC and Williams, BAR / Honda and BMW / Sauber driver - not eligible - 17th - Sam Schmidt Motorsports
There are some true champions amongst those guys. Here's wishing them all the best and good luck for the event.
Additionally, someone else of relevance for this website will start on the upcoming weekend in the lawful successor of the USGP at Indy, the so-called "Grand Prix of Indianapolis":
#26 - Franck Montagny - former Renault F1 test driver and SuperAguri driver - eligible - Andretti Autosport
#20 - Mike Conway - former Honda F1 test driver - not eligible - Ed Carpenter Racing
Both are, however, not scheduled to start at the 500 Mile Sweepstakes.

Franck Montagny will start the Grand Prix of Indianapolis in the #26 Andretti. And if Conway gets mentioned, so deserves to be Briscoe.

... but he mentioned Briscoe... not that Briscoe has done anything worth mentioning this year. I actually forgot he was back in IndyCar this year at all, he's been so anonymous.

Tells a lot about his anonymousness (and my eagerness to be a smartass) that I forgot Yannick mentioned him. Often wondered how Briscoe lands a seat after seat in top teams, having ever shown little to deserve them and more importantly, bringing no money.

I have not seen any particularly revealing shots of the track yet. Yes, onboard footage but I am still not clear on how the track will do with the whole field jamming down into the new first and second corners. Also, the chicane everybody wanted in 2005. That is all I need to say about the final section of the track.

Yes, that's quite the big news. Looks like he's good at the Brickyard. After all, he already is in the history books for being the guy who qualified for the Indy 500 whilst doing his mandatory check in hospital, because 2 competitors who had already bumped him, voluntarily pulled their time and failed to better it in their next run.
Too bad the new qualifying format at Indy doesn't allow for those things to happen anymore.
Have I said I don't like the new qualifying format? I hope, one of the days of qualifying for the Indy 500 this year gets rained out completely so they revert back to the old format for next year.

Those new restart rules are pretty stupid. Not entirely sure what JPM was doing there.

I give my ROTR to "restarts". Both seems wrong with Indycar. F1 style start don't combine with IndyCar and often we have someone stalled. The Nascar rolling start is somewhat dangerous, like Graham Rahal said.
Special Mention for Servia and Hawksworth strategists.

How!? That was a technical failure. ROTR is definitely the restart procedure - it was clearly flawed at St. Pete yet they haven't changed it.
Still, it was an awesome nail-biter right at the end. Great to see Pagenaud win again, he's cemented himself as a very serious title contender now, alongside RHR and Power. And given Power's propensity to choke titles away...
Hawksworth would've won the race had his team not called him into pit lane after he had already passed pit entry. A shame for him given that he was the class of the field, but it's very encouraging for him and Bryan Herta Autosport. As for Servia's strategy... that was an easy top 5 they threw away right there. Though maybe Servia just couldn't match the other guys for fuel saving? I dunno why everyone was gambling on a caution at the end there, once the field got a couple laps under their belt, the odds were pretty low.
