Bahrain GP race review

Post by eytl »

Hi everyone,

In Jamie's absence/hiatus, I have taken it upon myself to upload the Bahrain GP race review ... and, while I'm at it, to make a lame attempt at changing the race review page style.

http://www.f1rejects.com/centrale/2010/bahrain/index.html

The review hasn't gone 'live' on the main page yet, I will put a link to it once the Australian review is up as well. Hope you like the read, and also the slightly different page style!

Cheers,
Enoch

Excellent as ever; liked the way you worked on the pit-stop speed limit using the A1GP model. Would still need convincing myself, but it could work and bring some novelty into the mix.

As for the layout, I liked it. My only gripe is the type seemed kind of small - maybe you can change something regarding that?

Ee! I am rather scared by the new layout. Being used to the calm black background, which is easy on the eyes, and is also in line with the general theme of the site with highlights in dark red and green, this new black text on white background is a bit... rough. That's not to say I don't like it, though. It's a classy, old-fashioned, decent look. Please don't implement it on the whole site, though!!

As for the review itself... I haven't even read it yet, because I felt I had to post this first, but I don't doubt that it'll be good and that I'll agree with most of the arguments made, because that's usually the case with your (excellent) reviews. 8-)

I'm having a very hard time reading the text. My eye isn't effectively drawn to it, like it is on the main site, because of the differing colors. It seems the text is just floating in a sea of white, which is just difficult to follow. Also, the wide column makes it hard for people to read large chunks of text, because they have to spend more time concentrating on what line they were on before.

I'm actually a fan of the way the website is styled currently (and I have a decent background in both web design and in media layout in general).

OK, I've made some further changes, by way of experimenting:

* Gone back to a black background
* Text goes back to having a black background
* Still a little wider than the usual page style, but not as wide as I had it
* Reinserted section breaks, but rather than after every X number of paragraphs, before each subheading.

Thanks for doing it, Enoch. It improved, in my opinion. The page breaks and the green heading are approved!

It looks good. The actual content is, as always, excellent, while the format changes make it more readable.

Id say it could use some pictures, to "break it up" a little more

Am I wrong, Enoch, or is there no Reject of the Race awarded in the review? :o

Don't worry, there is - it was given to "over-hyping of the 2010 season". I just haven't included pictures for time/copyright reasons.
