Grand Prix Rejects

I have to say it: I don´t like the new points system. I didn´t like the previous one. For me, the perfect system always was 10-6-4-3-2-1 and I still like it. That´s why I´m opening this post, to make a coverage of the 2010 with the old points system.

So, here we go with what we got so far:

Interesting is the fact that the new points were brought in to limit occasions where someone who hadn't won a race was leading the WDC, as Massa is now. Under the old system, both leaders are winners.

At some point in the future, could I or somebody else do the same thing with the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 and the alternative proposed system for this year in this thread, or should a seperate thread be done for each alternative points system?

i'd suggest for simplicity sake to put them all in here, so we don't get three threads bumped up every race

Cool, it's for the best. It's a great exercise in what-if-ness, and a singular thread for it keeps it all in a place where everyone can have a look.

Great. Unless somebody does it in the meantime, I'll do it at the weekend for what would have been the intended system for this year. (On holiday at the moment, and can't be bothered with effort while away.)

I think points system should not chane. It is a traditional concern.
I liked the old one though.

The new points system may well have been brought in to increase the value of a win, but the old system referred in the first post of this thread is NOT the one that was used last season, but the one in place before the 2003 season.

Interesting to see Jenson is leading the championship by exactly the same margin (40% of a win) under both the current and 2002 points systems, given is poor results in Bahrain and Malaysia. I guess everybody else has been just as inconsistent.

Well, hopefully not.

Incidentally, I don't like (yet) the current points system though it has remained a lot closer than I feared it would THANKS to the inconsistency of drivers. However, I liked very much the 8 positions points system compared to the 6 positions version. There's no scientific reasonable basis for this - it simply warms my haart more people and more teams and more rejects would be capable of collecting points than just the top 3 teams, by default

I will always support the system when only the best results counted towards the championship.

Hmmm...not yet I was talking about the system used from 1950 to 1991, but with the current points pay/results system.

Interesting to note that Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are still tied, though on 62 instead of 49 points, and are also now ahead of Nico Rosberg. But that's about the only difference right now,.

I don't mean to tred on anyones toes but this thread is annoying me. I want to be able to come on here and quickly find the current standings for the championship and compare it to what it might have been like under other older points systems.

So I have made a google spreadsheet that anyone can view with the standings so far under;

the current points, 25, 18, 15, etc.
2003-2009, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
1991-2002, 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1
1981-1984, 9, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1.

I haven't done 85-90 or any earlier systems as they involve best results and it is hard to relate to a calendar with a different number of races,( best 5 from first 6, best 5 from last 6 becomes best 9 from first 10, best 8 from last 9?)

I am willingto keep updating this throughout the season and am open to adding more points systems if people want.
