How To Make F1 Better- Crazy Suggestions From YOU!

I don't think I should be putting other topics OT, so I've decided my own thread would be suitable. :D

So, this is where you post all your ideas, no matter how insane, on how to make F1 a better sport.

1) Bring back pre-qualifying, accept all new teams regardless how farcical they may be. Allow full turbos back, outlaw V10's, allow only the turbos, V8's and V12's (because the V10 was the death of the other V engines ;) ), allow any type of F1-era car to race (a Lotus 72 fighting it out with a Williams FW15C), and lower standards for a super licence.

:D

Race in Kenya and Finland's rally stages, and allow riding shotguns to be carried with heavy weaponry with limited ammo-they can choose between a rocket launcher, a M60, a Minigun or a flamethrower. And award the podium champagne bottles to the winner of a 3-way duel to first blood using canes and wearing top-hat, waistocat and an ascot tie, both for drivers and team bosses, while singing their respective anthems. Then, all the grid will regroup and sing together The HWNSNBM hymn while throwing papayas one into each other.

Replace Bernie Ecclestone with Sir Patrick Stewart. Who should preside over the Grand Prix whilst wearing some sort of regal outfit involving a robe, crown and sceptre. He should also decide whether a driver's win should stand or not. For whatever reason he likes.

Make the only rules that the car should have 4 wheels of current dimensions, the driver should sit upright, and is powered by internal combustion. Then give the drivers 'airstrike' tokens. Maybe 4 a season. They call in the airstrike on a certain car, a helicopter pilot attempts to attack the car with a machine gun. If he misses or the driver can avoid him then, tough, you've wasted a token.

Or alternatively, we could just go ahead and kill all the drivers now.

Bring back the V12's, actually make team orders punishable, kick Valencia and Singabore out and replace them with Portugal and Jerez. Re-modify Hockenheim back to it's original form, and bring back the rear wings to what it was back in 2008. The rear wings right now look silly.

Here is Formula F1000X.

Suggestion 1

Aerodynamic Rules: NO REAR WINGS, NO DIFFUSERS, FLAT BOTTOM CARS. REDUCED RIDE HEIGHT MINIMUM. FULLY UNRESTRICTED ADJUSTABLE FRONT WINGS PERMITTED.

Brake Rules: No limit on brake duct sizes.

Tire Rules: Maximum of 40 inches of total tire width in rear. 32 inches the front.

Transmission Rules: No major changes except only 1 transmission allowed per race weekend.

Engine Rules: 1 Engine per race weekend. Turbo engines of 1500cc to a boost level to be determined allowed. Normally aspirated engines of 3500cc allowed. No refueling allowed. Target race power output of 1200HP.

Basically my Formula 1 would have ludicrous power levels, significantly lower downforce, and more mechanical grip.

Suggestion 2

Keep the Formula as is, but with one change. REWARDS WEIGHT! With a maximum of 100kilos, drivers finishing in the points will be penalized with rewards weight at similar ratio to that of current points structure.

Suggestion 3

Fire Jean Todt, Ban Ferrari. BATHPLUG THE TIFOSI.

Requiring that all drivers actually RACE each other, even within teams. Team orders are cause for both drivers to lose all their championship points and be ejected for the remainder of the season and the first half of the next.

Ensuring that 1/4 of the schedule is run on oval tracks. If F1 drivers are truly the "best in the world" (... ...) then certainly this would not be an issue.

Requiring that the cars themselves are at least somewhat attractive-looking. Please refer to the Panoz DP01, or... pretty much any CART/Champ Car after... 1988. If you want an attractive normally aspirated car, then the 1997-1998 IRL cars (yes, they SOUNDED horrendous, but the design of the cars was quite nice I think) are a good start.

Removing any track from the calendar (oval tracks excluded) that has fewer than 2 passing zones.

Ensuring that the cars are EXTRA loud in those areas where residents complain about noise as a big F*** you to them.

Expanding the F1 field to 30 cars.

Mandate that both the front and rear wings on all cars should resemble the wings on this car.

Require that Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso become teammates at Ferrari.

Bring F1 to Road America.

By the way I'm totally serious about all of these.

Introduce a random event generator, by allowing the spectators and television viewers to choose a driver that they want to see affected by a random event, to be picked out at random using a wheel of fortune. Could be that all the lights on his steering wheel turn red for a few seconds, half engine power, oil slick, glass marble spill, just about anything, really.

Get some different track designers - Yes, I know Tilke cops a lot of flack for his tracks, but that is mainly because his tracks are quite similar (long straights ending in tight corners). Some different track designers would bring much needed variety to the Formula One calendar.
Bring in a proper "push to pass" system (i.e. one that does not zap mechanics) - Champ Car showed that a good push to pass system could increase the action on the track and add an extra element of strategy (do you use it early in the race to make up positions or do you save it for the final few laps).
Stricter penalties for Ferrari - Seriously, a 100,000 euro fine for Ferrari is basically pocket money for them. Why not give them a REAL punishment like banning them from the next race (especially when it is their home race - I would have loved to have seen the Tifosi's reaction) or stripping them of all points scored in 2010.
No entry limits and Pre Qualifying - Everyone loves an underdog (except for Bernard E.) so why not bring more small teams to the sport. There would be pre-qualifying which would remove all the rubbish teams who enter the 21st century equivalent of a Life W12. The added bonus is that we would see how rubbish of a team owner Jacques Villeneuve would be.

But how short would those races be? The races would all either finish very quickly because of all the crashes into each other, or else the race would go to its two-hour time limit because they could never keep the cars on track and would be forever skating across the grass/gravel and pitting for repairs/new tyres...

I would have cars with 6-wheels (3 axles) in either configuration:

Or four if they wanted:

But allowing innovation and ingenuity would be key and to be encouraged, just so long as the cars passed stringant crash tests... Oh, and preferably Formual Ford levels of downforce, if only it could be legislated for... :?

Pre qualifying to return, 20 teams, one car teams optional. Every team must field a reject driver. If they are a 2 car team, one reject driver and a non-reject driver.

e.g. Alonso and Liuzzi at Ferrari. Liuzzi finishes 5th at Monaco and escapes reject status, Ferrari would have to boot either Alonso or Liuzzi.

If a new team hires Chandhok, they automatically avoid pre-qualifying.

I'll have a go at something more serious:
-A grid of 15 teams. If anyone of them has troubles, FIA is entitled to help it, provided it didn't make a managerial mistake of note.
-2000cc V6 turbocharged engines with an output of 900-1000 hp.
-Partial ground effects on cars and reduced aero grip (less wing).
-20 races per year, including historic circuits such as the Nordschleife, Zandvoort, Österreichring or Paul Ricard.
-Team orders allowed ONLY IF A DRIVER HAS A MASSIVE ADVANTAGE OVER THE OTHER AND NEEDS THE POINTS TO WIN THE WC, OR IF A DRIVER HAS PREVIOUSLY ACCEPTED TO SIGN A CONTRACT IN WHICH IT'S STATED HE'LL BE A CLEAR NUMBER 2 DRIVER.
-No blue flags (that's right, front runners will have to find their own way through back markers).
-Unlimited tests allowed along the season.
-Spare cars allowed.
-3rd driver allowed every racing weekend, for every team.
-No limits in the number of engines a team may use along the season.

OK here goes, apologies for any repitition:

- Introduce single plane front and rear wings - still some aero grip and keeps the sponsors happy
- Reverse grids for 40% of the races, but these are random and only announced post qualifying to ensure that teams will play the percentages and still go for pole
- Customer cars - no brainer in my view and grids of 26 with as up to 34 total entrants. Bring back pre-qualifying and let the fastest 30 shoot for 26 places on the grid
- Outlaw blocking - one move is one to many, if a driver is faster they should have the right to try to overtake
- Free up engine rules, but only allow a certain amount of fuel per car per race, and reduce the amount year on year

Completely revise engine regulations. Adopt a revised version of the Group C engine regulations, by creating an equivalency formula for all possiblt types of fuel and issuing the team with a set amount of said fuel for the duration of the race. The team can then use whatever engine they see fit. This would allow the teams to also associate marketing aspectsd with the engine specification, so Ferrari could have a V12, Honda (if it was in it) could have a high-revving 4-cylinder 2-litre engine, Ford or General Motors could have a V8, etc.
Every year or every 2 years, reduce the fuel allocation by a given percentage, thus keeping the speeds under control.
This woould ensure direct correlation to road-car engines and promote fuel-efficiency measures, again translatable to road car engines.
I've been banging on about these engine regulations for 10 years, to anyone who will listen. As you might be able to tell, I have a slight obsession with all things Group C related.

At first, until every team has optimised their engine, yes, probably. But I imagine that eventually every team would end up with the same type of engine, just like it happened with Group C, where ultimately a lightly-turbocharged engine was the optimal solution. I imagine it would be quite fascinating to see until everyone comes up with the same figures and solution.

1. Give Jean Todt a change. I like the light touch approach.

2. Liberalise engine rules. Restrictions to be applied: fuel (30% of what is being used right now) and noise (never above 100 dB). That should foster some innovation.

3. Limited ground effects. Oh yes.

4. Liberalise tyres. Force teams to use 20 inch wheels.

You will see that, apart from point 4, I am one of those who thinks F1 is going in the right direction, more or less.
