Grand Prix Rejects

Since there is a Triple Crown of Motorsport (Monaco, Le Mans, and the Indy 500.), and a Triple Crown of endurance race (Le Mans, 24hs of Daytona, and the 24hs of Sebering.), do you think there should be a Triple Crown for Grand Prix race wins? If so, what would you choose? For me, it would be a win at Monaco, a win at the Nurburgring (old and new), and a win at Monza. (It was tough chiose between the Nurburgring, or Spa, but I chose The Ring.)

Monaco, Monza, Silverstone or Monaco, Monza and Spa. It could really go either way. The new Nurburgring is nothing like the old one, It's legacy died in 1976. Spa at least uses fragments of the old circuit, and both Spa and Silverstone were around for the inaugural season. The way I see it, the British, Italian, Monaco are the most important to the teams, while Spa is one of the most important to the drivers. German grand prix is meh, except to German drivers.

Monaco, Spa, home race.

F1 would be monaco, monza and spa, because the character of these tracks hasn't really changed over the years (while nurburgring and to a lesser extent silverstone did) silverstone would also have to share the british history with brands, which none of the othere tracks had to. So if you would say 'win the british GP' it would make a top4, which was a top 5 with germany until nurburgring got cut short and hockenheim got tilke-fied, if you would have to choose 3 it would be 'monaco, spa, and 'whichever of the other 3 you like the most'

1000 km: spa, monza and nurburgring/silverstone
i would still put the spa 24h in that 24h category, although it's not a sportscar-race, it's legendary for the simple reason that it is at spa, it has a tradition starting in the 20's
had some bad periods, the end of the 90's not being particulary interesting with peugeot 306's driving for the win, and even someone competing with a pimped-up peugeot 806... but with going back to GT, they put themselves back on the map.

Silverstone probably over Monza. Provides better races from what I've seen.

It's a difficult decision. Personally, I'd go for Monaco, Silverstone, and Suzuka. Add in Spa and Monza for a Grand Slam.

Seeing as 4 of the original 7 World Championship venues are still on the calendar, maybe its not a Triple Crown.

Also note that for example Mika Häkkinen, Kimi Räikkönen and Robert Kubica were/are not able to do that trio as they don't have home race. And I tried to list drivers who are at least GP winners.

Surely it has to be the circuits which have been with us since 1950; so Silverstone, Monza and Spa? Even though there are tracks out there that are far more exciting; for example I think F1 should go to the volcanic track in Argentina; Potrero de los Funes Circuit in San Luis and Portimao in Portugal.

I was preparing myself to attack this as being too easy to win, but clearly I did some research and it's quite the opposite!

A number of people seem to go for the Monaco-Spa-Monza layout. So here's a list of drivers that have won that triple crown so far.

I'm guessing so that drivers like Nigel Mansell, and Damon Hill would be eligible for it.

Incorrect. Just because I'm fed up of hearing about bathplugging Monaco all the time. It's a diddy track.

Monaco, Spa and Monza. If no Spa on calendar chuck in Silverstone.

Monaco has to be there because of the glitz and glamour surrounding the event. Although I wouldn't really miss the actual race being off the calendar these days but that will never happen.

There's no point to having a triple crown within a series. It has to be cross-series otherwise it's nonsensical. Arent we just nominating our favourtite tracks with big history behind them?

In football a triple crown is winning the league, the cup and a major international competition. Motorsport generally defines winning Monaco, Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans 24hrs as the triple crown. The only "special" events within a same series in the case of football would be the great rival teams playing each other in league competition, but you couldn't stretch those into a triple crown thing. Just doesn't make sense.

Monaco stands out as the F1 classic race, and winning it is prestigious for sure. But there arent any other tracks that can compare with it. Possibly Macau can rival it but it's not an F1 track.

The most impressive F1 tracks still alive are Spa, Suzuka and Monza. Monaco is nice and different and all but isn't really down to skill so much as luck, machine and qualifying. Silverstone is overhyped and overrated because it's british and because it was a good track a long time ago. But for me Silverstone is dull. Donington on the other hand...

EDIT - Sorry, forgot to mention Montreal and Interlagos. Montreal is still impressive though a bit less than the other three, and Interlagos is just too nice a track not to mention.
