Grand Prix Rejects

I know there's lots of these going but I wanted to start this as I put this idea in the voting thread and wanted to start it before anyone took it!

Basically what this one is, is all drivers who have won a race during any given season are disqualified from all of that season's results, and every year it starts afresh. The more drivers who win a race in reality, the more get disqualified from that season - last season for instance will be without the Red Bull drivers, McLaren drivers and Alonso.

Driver examples are:

Lewis Hamilton will never been included in this as he's won races in every season he's competed (some people will be pleased about that!). Alain Prost will only be eligible in 1980 and 1991. Jean Alesi will only be disqualified in 1995!

It's basically a salute to drivers who have had very good consistent seasons but maybe not been in the very best car so maybe don't get remembered for it in years to come (such as Rosberg and Kubica in 2010).

Anyway, I'm not going to bother with the 50s and 1960 which featured shared drives as it complicates things, and the Indy 500 (every Indy 500 driver just moves up one place anyway), and start with 1961 which will be coming soon!!

I smell that 2007 and 2008 will be the Heidfeld massacre.

2003 will have no Ferraris, McLarens, Williamses and Alonso's Renault, so it should be interesting as well.

I think he won 1965 in you own Backwards Elimination championship. He also wins 1965 in mine (with the medals).

Second in a row for Ginther. His very consistent 1963 and 1964 seasons are exactly the type of season I wanted to reward in this format! Peter Arundell was a driver I didn't know much about before doing this, but he was leading this before his season-ending crash in an F2 event. Also Walt Hansgen (who?) gets a podium!

Happened in mine as well

Arundell gained some note as he finished his first two races on the podium. The next one to do that was certain Lewis Hamilton. Arundell passed away few years ago.

Very comfortable championship for Amon, even though he won "No Real Champions", he wins with Stewart and Hill in the field! Also John Love who has a feature on the main site wins (almost) his home race, and lots of podiums for rejects (Irwin, Hobbs, Williams and even Guy Ligier)!!!!!!!

Nobody finished enough races for the dropped scores to apply, and due to eliminating a large number of drivers and small fields, only 4 6th places were awarded. It was a 3-way fight going to Mexico but Surtees and Beltoise both retired, Rodriguez was 2nd but didn't need to finish! Also quite a few wins for fairly obscure drivers!

Rubens?

No. Rubens was winless in 2001 but finished 3rd after Michael and DC. He had wins in 2002 and 2004 when he was 2nd.

In 1952, Giuseppe Farina came 2nd without a single win.

Fairly comfortable for Revson again, thought he'd be the favourite as he won "No Real Champions". Pleased to see Mike Hailwood gets a win, and also win for Brian Redman, sadly I couldn't get Howden Ganley or Tim Schenken to win a race. The boss of Red Bull is unrejectified, and I didn't even know Depailler and Scheckter competed as early as that either!

That's yet another alternative posthomous championship win for Cevert, and it was total domination from him, he had it sewn up after Holland with 5 races left (he had 69 at that stage, joint 2nd were Ickx and Merzario with........22!!). He wouldn't have needed to be driving at Watkins Glen.

Reutemann gets runner-up without a win but 7 podiums, James Hunt wins his home race in his debut season, and there are also wins for Pace, Merzario (!) and Jackie Oliver of all people!!

Oh and I also forgot to mention about 1972 - Dave Walker still failed to score even in this format!

Very unfortunate for Hailwood - he was leading when he had his career-ending crash at the Nurburgring, but it took Depailler until the last race to catch him! (Similar to 1982 in real liffe with Pironi and Rosberg too as Depailler only won one race!!)Ickx would have won it under medals, but he only got one point aside from his wins. 8 different drivers win races, including Jarier and Stuck! Can't believe some points increases from real life - Watson went from 6 to 29, and Graham Hill went from 1 to 18!!

1975

I like this one - 9 different winners in reality, from just 14 races. I decided to disqualify Mass and Brambilla even though their wins were only for half-points.

Also out are Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi, Reutemann, Hunt, Regazzoni, Pace and Scheckter.

I was hoping 9 eliminated drivers would produce some obscure race-winners but there aren't really any apart from the Parnelli team (though Andretti himself is hardly obscure!), I guess at a push you could say it about Pryce and Donohue. The best news is who gets podiums - Harald Ertl the best facial hair ever, Bob Evans (who?), and even though it was for only half points.............Lella Lombardi!!!!

And there's even a point for South African Guy Tunmer in his one and only race!

Jochen Mass wins a title!!!! It was remarked on in "No Real Champions" how he came close in 1976 in that, and I thought "Why is that so outrageous? He was the real champion's teammate after all!". DEpailler's reign comes to an end as he retired too much against the more consistent Mass.

No particualry obscure winning drivers, but there are for teams - Ensign with Regazzoni and Fittipaldi with Emerson of course!

There are podiums for Renzo Zorzi, Ingo Hoffmann and Rupert Keegan of all people, and lots of unrejectification and points for obscure drivers!

I never knew the P34 six wheeler was so successful! A championship and a runner up

Amazingly, Watson just beats Laffite on countback, and amazingly, Scheckter also has to rely on countback to beat Fittipaldi for 3rd. Strange I thought Fittipaldi did two-thirds of cr*p-all after leaving McLaren!! Also wins for Arrows and Williams in their first seasons. And Brett Lunger is the latest reject on the podium!

Absolutely cracking season. 5 drivers had a chance going into the last race! Arnoux who was out of contention won, but Pironi sealed it with 2nd. Strangely, Reutemann had a perfect 4 wins in the first half of the season, and Arnoux did likewise in the second half, but their respective other halves, frankly, sucked!!! Reutemann also had to drop two podiums in the first half of the season, oops! Also very odd that Lauda's win was in his last race before he retired for the first time. Lees and Zunino are the latest rejects to be on the podium, and Lammers is also unrejectified!

1980

No Jones, Piquet, Reutemann, Laffite, Pironi, Arnoux or Jabouille (so that's three complete teams taken out and only the second Brabham taking part).

Nobody has to drop any scores either!

Very close season with lots of different winners (Bruno Giacomelli wins a race for heavens sake!!!!). I thought for a long time Gilles was going to be champion (in his only full season's appearance in this) without winning a race, he was 5 ahead of Jarier and 8 ahead of De Angelis going to Watkins Glen, but De Angelis won to pip him by a point as both Villeneuve and Jarier retired.
