Funniest things you've read regarding rejects

Post by jackanderton »

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefan_Grand_Prix

In April [2010], Stefan announced that it has applied to enter the 2011 season, and that it also plans to build the "Stefan Technology Park" (including a Formula One-standard circuit) in Stara Pazova.[26][27]

I just find that fantastic. Some part of me thinks he'll eventually start hosting his own races in an attempt to be a serious rival to Formula 1. It would almost be worth chipping in some money to fund his ego.

What would Circuit de Stefan look like? Donnington Park circa 2009 perhaps?

Has it been built yet?

That Osella's 1988 car was called the Osella FA1L. It was destined to be crap from the very start.

Keith Wiggins slept in the toilets at Pacific Racing HQ in Thetford several times.

This means one of three things:
- Incredible commitment to the job (doing overnight stints to get the job done)
- He was so skint he had to sell his house to finance the team
- He became estranged from his wife.

Any idea which it is?

Wasn't that like, a cover story, too? Which means that was the best they could come up with!

Ah, HRT, never change.

A funny fact about Onyx I read in Wikipedia:

There were also alarming rumours beginning to circulate regarding poor car preparation, including broken suspension parts being welded back together instead of being replaced and the cannibalising of Monteverdi's sports car collection to replace parts on the Formula One cars due to a lack of spare parts. One instance saw Lehto repeatedly complaining of poor handling, a problem that was finally solved when his driveshaft was discovered to have been installed the wrong way around. At around this time part-owner Karl Foitek withdrew his money and barred his son from driving a car that he now felt was a death-trap. With finances already a huge problem, Foitek's withdrawal was the final straw and the team would ultimately not see out the championship, wrapping up operations at the Hungarian Grand Prix in a sad ending for a team that had entered the sport with such promise and potential.
