But this season has been odd, so unpredictable.... I just dont know whats gonna happen next.....The Order of the previous years are blown away Freak results are the Norm, my flabber is well and truely gasted....i just wonder how things would have been had quallifying been the way it was in the old days... 60 min session with each driver having 12 laps to get a good time, would it still be as unpredictable?

As for the question, possibly. You wouldn't have the odd Ferrariesque out-of-qualify-'cause-we-felt-comfortable-and-were-shafted, but the field is so close we'd have surprises anyway.

Yep, the momentum in this season has been swinging back and forth. First Brawn is surprisingly unbeatable par China, then they start to struggle in Britain and Red Bull takes a couple of 1-2 wins again, then Ferrari and McLaren make sudden improvements and Red Bull starts to lose their ultimate edge, then McLaren falls a bit again and we have Force India on the pole and podium in Spa! An extremely unpredictable season after the dull-ish start, I can't wait to see who's on top in Italy.

As for the question: this season's differences have been very small, so yes, the old qualifying system could've shuffled the pack even more, given that back in the day drivers pushed themselves right up to their limit in qualifying as there were no restrictions on fuel and tyres.

And also what helps is that all the engines arent older or unever BHP eg Mercedes Mclaren Brawn and Force India. This is what F1 needed. Different Podium results.

The past few seasons close championship finishes and freak races have masked how awful the racing has been.

I hope this year the shifting in speeds of the teams doesn't make us lose sight of the fact the on-track action has been completely dismal nearly all season.

I agree partially - the middle part of the season has seen some fairly dull races. Silverstone might have been where the World Championship 'woke up' again, but the only real racing was down the tail end of the field. KERS hasn't helped - it helps McLarens and Ferrari's launch themselves ahead early on and then use it to prevent anyone from getting past. I for one would either like it to be compulsory or banned (and by this I mean 'properly banned' not 'gentlemans agreement').

Yes, but only if we define the middle of the season as starting in Race 2.

I have to agree with you on KERS. Initially I liked the fact that the cars could have these differences and bought the hype that KERS would aid overtaking but as the season has gone on its become a hinderance to on track action. I don't consider it a waste of money like many people do - as I would love to see the technology used on road cars - but like driver aids they should go in the interest of good racing.
