Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2011 Indian GP

Posted: 30 Oct 2011, 11:12
by Shizuka
based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Nico Rosberg's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".

Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

If Shizuka posts the results for this instead of just starting the thread....it will be an infinite improbability contender.... :)

Repeating what I said in the ustream chat:
Attrition - Dear God I have missed you.
Kovalainen - Excellent drive again, he was keeping pace with Bruno Senna for much of the first stint.

I can do that! What's the deadline of nominations?

1. Kovalainen - He was matching Maldonado and Senna early on, we just needed a few more DNFs.
2. Jamie & Enoch - That was brilliant!

My vote can only go for the F1 Rejects Live Podcast

My second vote will go for Alguersuari for an impressive 8th.

(Kovalainen doing well is a given at this point ;D)

No-one really stood out so I'll just give honourable mentions.

Schumacher: Beat Rosberg and looked quick throughout.
Alguersuari: Solid qualifying turns into solid race. More points, definitely deserves a drive for 2012.
Kovalainen: Solid drive to 14th, running in 10th for a few laps.
Karthikeyan: Ok, was awful again when being lapped, but beat Ricciardo and didn't disgrace himself.

Kovalainen - Another good drive and I believe he finished ahead of Barrichello on merit.

Alguersuari - I think he's just about secured his seat for next year. Buemi must be very worried now.

Before the next race. I usually did it on the Tuesday (I.e 9/10 days) of the following week, but that is just cos it's convenient for me. Carlos left it a bit longer I think. Wizzie about the same.

-Karthikeyan, An excellent performance that I think would be missed by the vast majority of the audience. Comprehensivley beat Red Bull "Protege" Ricciardo. Feel good story of the weekend.

1. Karthikeyan - He did as great as one could in his situation. I dare to say that I would not mind if his F1 career continues.

2. Jamie & Enoch - That effort was awesome, guys.

Micheal Schumacher- Again a superb start and had solid race pace. I am hoping that he beats Nico in the points standings

Jamie Alguersuari- He can beat Sutil in the overall standings. Jamie and Ricciardo for STR next year

Narain Karthikeyan- Yeah i am slightly biased when it comes to him but despite being a mobile chicance in the race he did an amazing job in beating Ricciardo and was just half a second behind Jerome at the end of the race. I am praying that its not his last race in F1.

Alright! Caught back up and did the Korean and Japanese results. :)

And my nominations are for this race:
1. Karthikeyan - Okay, so Ricciardo says he might have had a puncture, but hey, he's closer to Daniel than Liuzzi! Did anyone see that coming?
2. Perez - From 20th to 10th. He scored a point again!

Schumacher - Nice drive from 11th place.

Perez - Nice drive from 20th place.

Honourary mention goes to Senna for running in the points, which I did not expect, and Webber for maintaining second place at the first turn.

Webber - Just because he didn't lose places at the start, I actually thought he would have took Vettel at turn 1

Perez - Nice drive to what is and could be a crucial point for Sauber

1: Nicknames. 'cos watching the race while listening to the likes of 'surrender monkey', 'the finger' and 'angry dipthong' made it that extra bit special!
2: Kovalainen, for reasons said before

1) Narain Karthikeyan: Acquitted himself well despite being out of the car so long, beat Ricciardo on merit, didn't embarrass himself in front of the home crowd.

2) Sergio Pérez: Managed to sneak his way into the points again, despite a poor qualifying.

I can't really give anything to Karthikeyan, because HRT seemed to give Ricciardo an odd strategy that didn't help him, and although Narain did well enough, he indulged in some awful blocking of the leaders at the end. Kovalainen did well enough, but I'm still waiting for something a bit more spectacular. So...

1) Schumacher - Good start again, sensible strategy, and finished as high as he possibly could have done.
2) Perez - The only one to turn that weird strategy to run hard tyres for 2 laps at the start into points, and heading the 2 Renaults was good work.

1. Schumacher: A stellar drive from the old guy.
2. Karthikeyan: Not really for anything spectacular, but he did well for the home crowd. Still wish Chandhok was there.

1. Jamie & Enoch: That was simply fantastic :D
2. Heikki Kovalainen: More impressive performances from Dorsal Finn himself

Honourable mentions to Bruno Senna, Narain Karthikeyan and Jaime Alguersuari/Toro Rosso in general

After Chandhok's performance at Nurburgring earlier this year, I don't think his mum would have even gave him a drive for this race.

I'll be brief about it again, since I'm a bit late, but here goes...

1. Michael Schumacher - saw the 'old Schumi' in him again. Makes me think he'll win again if Mercedes improves for next year.
2. Sergio Pérez - made the strategy work, went from 20th into the points...

Honorable mentions:
Heikki Kovalainen - ran 10th for a while, beat Barrichello home.
Bruno Senna - great start, did well in the race but unfortunately missed out on points because of bad strategy and a KERS failure early on.
Jaime Alguersuari - putting Sauber under one more threat... now STR is on equal points to them for 7th!
Hispania Racing - for out-qualifying Virgin with both cars (though Glock had trouble) and having Karthikeyan taking it to d'Ambrosio in front of his home crowd.

1. Sergio Perez
2. Narain Karthikeyan

Honorary mentions go to:
3. Heikki Kovalainen, who peaked at 10th place. Thanks to the long-stint strategy of course but still a remarkable performance
4. Rowan Atkinson for this :D

Proof that if the Formula1 world doesn't care about the backmarkers doing well, F1Rejects certaiy does.
