F1 Apetura

Well, you can now call me a ripoff.

This alternate championship follows the exact same format as F1RMGP's apetura championship,in which the top 16 drivers from the previous season compete head to head among the field. And,believe it or not,the 2012 Apetura has already ended. So I shall start with that.

2012 Season
Round of 16-Australia

Vettel(2nd) vs Kovalainen(DNF)
Button(1st) vs De La Rosa(DNQ)
Webber(4th) vs Maldonado(13th)
Alonso(5th) vs Senna(16th)
Hamilton(3rd) vs Perez(8th)
Massa(DNF) vs Di Resta(10th)
Rosberg(12th) vs Kobayashi(6th)
Schumacher(DNF Lap 10) vs Petrov(DNF Lap 38)

And already we have a few surprises.Massa's poor showing and DNF meant that all Di Resta needed to do was to finish. And both Mercedes cars are out as well!Rosberg fought hard with Kobayashi for the Apetura win but lost out as Sergio Perez,team-mate to Kobayashi, gave Rosberg a puncture on the final lap to ensure Kobayashi the Apetura victory. Finally,Schumacher's problems came 28 laps too early,as Petrov takes a surprise win in his new Caterham.

Quater Finals

Vettel(11th) vs Di Resta(7th)
Button(14th) vs Kobayashi(DNF)
Webber(4th) vs Petrov(16th)
Alonso(1st) vs Hamilton(3rd)

WHAT A SHOCK!The reigning world champion is out of the Apetura! He was running in a prime position until he ran into the back of Karthikeyan!Possible trans-Indian orders?Whatever the case,Paul Di Resta is moving to the semis!Button also ran into Karthikeyan, but was lucky as Kobayashi did not finish.Webber took an easy victory against Petrov and Hamilton had bad luck.He got a podium, but it was one of those days where the Ferrari just couldn't be stopped.

Semi-Finals

Button(2nd) vs Di Resta(12th)
Webber(4th) vs Alonso(9th)

This year,it is now all down to a Button and Webber showdown in Bahrain...if the race went on.Anyway,Button disposed of the Scot easily as Webber takes another 4th to breeze by Alonso, whose pace has dropped off the day he needed it.And now, ladies and gentlemen, the 2012 Apetura Final...

FINAL-Bahrian Grand Prix

Button(DNF)vWEBBER(4th)

Yes,the guy who takes 4 4ths leaves Bahrain with the Apetura trophy. This may be the first time that someone takes the Apetura without scoring a podium. He was helped by bad pitwork and a puncture for Button late in the race. And now, some stats for the 2012 Apetura...

Highest position to lose a matchup:Hamilton-Quater Finals-3rd place
Lowest position to win a matchup:Petrov-Round of 16-DNF
Smallest gap in a matchup:2 places-Alonso v Hamilton-Quater Finals
Largest gap in a matchup:Button v De La Rosa-Round of 16-1st/DNQ
ROTA(Reject of the Apetura):Massa
IIPITA(Infinite Improbability Performance in the Apetura):Di Resta

Also, one more note,I am planning to continue with this, starting from a certain decade. But which decade? 60s,70s or 80s?

The F1RMGP system itself was based off the system Adx Wales used for pretty much all the F1 season since about 1980

Seriously though, could you do it as well for if Bahrain had been cancelled?

I can do that.Just use Catalunya's results instead of Bahrain's.

Also, after some digging through the Perry McCarthy Forum,I did find the Apetura threads originally posted by AdxWales.Only found the 2011 season, though, and possibly saving people's troubles of flipping all the way through to the back end of the forum to find it by posting the Apeturas here.

Maybe starting off with 1976,although it could get a bit tricky.

As I remember, a lot of the Aperturas were worked out - I did a fair few of them - before a hole was left in the 1960s or so because I had too much else to do and ADx_Wales ran off in a huff. There's no need to work them all out again!

Here's the 2011 thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3981 - revisit that for all the workings! tommykl did a few as well, from the 1950s, but with a slightly different set of rules to what I used, so they're all a tad fluid. Shared drives and constant problems with drivers skipping races made it a tricky concept in those early days.

LIST OF CHAMPIONS:
1950 - Luigi Fagioli (2)
1951 - Luigi Villoresi (10)
1952 - Prince Bira (11)
1953 - Mike Hawthorn (3)
1954 - Juan Manuel Fangio (2)
1955 - Stirling Moss (9)
1956 - Jean Behra (4)
1957 - Juan Manuel Fangio (1)

...

1958-1969 - not worked out

...

1970 - Jack Brabham (10)
1971 - Jackie Stewart (4)
1972 - Jacky Ickx (4)
1973 - Emerson Fittipaldi (1)
1974 - Clay Regazzoni (11)
1975 - Carlos Reutemann (6)
1976 - Niki Lauda (1)
1977 - Emerson Fittipaldi (15)
1978 - Emerson Fittipaldi (11)
1979 - Jody Scheckter (6)
1980 - Patrick Depailler (7)
1981 - Carlos Reutemann (3)
1982 - Didier Pironi (11)
1983 - Marc Surer (16)
1984 - Marc Surer (14)
1985 - Elio de Angelis (3)
1986 - Thierry Boutsen (10)
1987 - Nigel Mansell (2)
1988 - Alain Prost (4)
1989 - Alain Prost (2)
1990 - Jean Alesi (9)
1991 - Ayrton Senna (1)
1992 - Nigel Mansell (2)
1993 - Jean Alesi (6)
1994 - Michael Schumacher (3)
1995 - Damon Hill (2)
1996 - Damon Hill (2)
1997 - Mika Häkkinen (5)
1998 - David Coulthard (3)
1999 - Michael Schumacher (2)
2000 - Michael Schumacher (5)
2001 - David Coulthard (3)
2002 - Michael Schumacher (1)
2003 - Kimi Räikkönen (6)
2004 - Michael Schumacher (1)
2005 - Fernando Alonso (4)
2006 - Michael Schumacher (3)
2007 - Lewis Hamilton (15)
2008 - Kimi Räikkönen (1)
2009 - Timo Glock (10)
2010 - Lewis Hamilton (5)
2011 - wasn't worked out because ADx_Wales was slightly bored, but shouldn't be too hard...

Anyway, the main reason I meant to revisit this in the first place was to name an F1RMGP trophy for the Apertura - I might call it the Marc Surer Cup, seeing as he managed to win it twice in highly unfancied cars.

This comes as about as much of a surprise as finding Andrea de Cesaris in a gravel trap...

I can't handle this, it's too bloody hilarious!
If nobody minds, I will handle 1965-1969 this evening.
