ROTR: 2013 Spanish GP

with qualifying only 50mins away i think it's time to get this topic running because some candidates have put their hands up already:

Mclaren: Either you are all Mclaren fans or Eytl and Kuwashima are because they have never won this award outright (shared it in one GP but can't remember which one) At this rate Mclaren are on for a historic reject treble (ROTR ROTY and an Article from Enoch looking at how bad this season has been)

Honourable mentions to the Hulk for moaning throughout the entire session or the pirelli tires

Well, we're getting closer. Eventually we can get them started after something has actually happened.

Yep. Still too early. People who make these threads before Sunday should be made to stand on the naughty step and think about what they've done!

oh come on it's not like the past 2 occasions where they were set a whole week before the race started. I think this should become Reject of the weekend

When has anyone ever done anything deserving of ROTR in practice? It's simple, start it on Sunday, preferably after the race, then we don't waste the first page or so on pointless nominations based on practice or arguments over when the thread should be started.

I'm starting to think a certain Mark Webber quote might be quite relevant to this...

It's reject of the race. Not reject of the weekend or reject of practice or reject of qualifying.

If you think it should be changed to reject of the weekend, that's fine. I think it should be changed to that aswell. But this isn't the way to go about doing it.

Ugh....

As people have said for the umpteenth time, things that happened before the race have been awarded ROTR. Formula Elaborate Bluff in 2009, Michael Schumacher Monaco 2006 come to mind. There is precedent. Now stop moaning, the lot of you.

McLaren are clearly gunning for it at the moment.

I think everyone needs to chill out a bit, this is much better than the thread being started a week before

And besides, the good Captain used to open ROTR threads on a Friday night/Saturday morning, and no-one complained about that IMO...

To be fair, someone could claim ROTR on qualifying alone. Schumacher at Monaco 2006 for example.

Williams are at the front now. Both cars out of Q1. Gutierrez deserves a mention for a horrid piece of blocking

with qualifying over my current candidates for the award are:

Williams: When was the last time neither car got past Q1? Even in their shocking 2011 they didn't manage that (Admittedly there were 7 spots needed to be filled and 6 were taken by the newer teams).

Mclaren (Except for Perez): Team Bunsen were slower than my mother on a Sunday drive. Perez getting into Q3 is the only good news they've had all weekend.

Everyone who thinks Mercedes are sitting ducks tomorrow: As Paul Hembrey said after China last year and Enoch's eventual ROTR decision proved: Don't believe everything you hear.

Bunsen Jetton: Is obviously declaring an onslaught for a 3rd ROTY at the moment

Spain is infamous for poor passing regardless of the track it is held at. With that being known, an underwhelming qualifying effort is a possible ROTR candidate.

I suppose that Timo Glock's decision to pull out of the European GP due to illness at the end of the final practise session, which made it impossible for the team to field a replacement driver, might count as something reject worthy that happened during the practise sessions.

While obviously ROTR-worthy things have happened before the race, the point remains that no such thing has really happened in this weekend. You could argue Williams, with both cars failing to make Q2 after winning here last year, but I'd say it'd be a bit premature to give it to them now.

The simple fact is that it could either be

-ROTGP Week-end and we should be able to discuss rejectful performances and moments over the course of the week-end, with an eventual ROTGP being nominated and then decided.
- Or we just have the same system now where people are allowed to point their finger and laugh at qually performances without officially nominating a ROTR. Where is the problem in that.

Now please, I have had enough of ultra-reactionary traditionalists moaning about new members, changes, and minor site conventions being violated. Can we please go back to laughing at Martin Whitmarsh or abusing Paul Di Resta?

The only thing I can say is that qually is pretty much the race at the Circuit de Catalunya these days.

Have to say, its odd seeing a ROTR thread only appearing on the day of qualifying!

After qualifying, I'd like to make a slightly left-wing nomination:
THE HYPOCRISY OF THE TEAMS/DRIVERS
The amount of calls for drivers to be punished for blocking seemed quite high, yet during the 45 minutes for qualifying, there was about 15 minutes where there was less than 3 cars on track. Why not go then, and spare us all the whiny 'omgbanplz' radio messages?

Just a small detail, but could the year be added to the thread title please? Thank you!

Yeah people are getting way too anal about this. I can understand the whole week before the race thing, but really, whether the thread is open before or after the actual race, it doesn't matter at all. It has never been an issue before, so I don't see why it should be now. Get a grip and worry about more important things in your lives than when a thread should be opened!

Sorry the title i wrote here made the texas thread from last year look like a class title. Probably the shortest ROTR title ever written on this site

Has he really because i'm watching the BBC and you're missing Vettel telling his engineer how to drive the simulator. Rocky had to set a time faster than last year's slowest qualifying time and he was only 8 seconds from doing it. He also spent more time spinning and crashing than pointing in the right direction

Mercedes- By a mile. 1-2 = 6th and 12th. Awful.

Mentions to Nico Hulkenburg - Awful pitstop
Max Chilton- at least 15 seconds behind Bianchi
Williams - What a difference a year makes
Caterham's tyres- that is NOT suppose to happen!
Pirelli- 4 stops? It needs sorting out!
