The 2013/2014 Wintersports Thread

It seems we don't have a Wintersports thread so why not start one. This year's Wintersports season kicks off in just 4 weeks time and once the F1 season is over all of my focus is on this. Feel free to discuss anything related to it.

I'll be watching my 3rd Winter Olympics, which are in Sochi, Russia! I'll be mostly looking at the events related to sppeeeeeeeeddd, such as ski-jumping and the downhill skiing time trial, or whatever it is called.

Just to remind you this thread isn't tied to just the 2014 Winter Olympics this is about all of the Wintersports seasons that happen like my favoured Biathlon World Cup season for example

First alpine skiing race of the season got underway today and young Swiss skier Lara Gut took the honor of being the first winner of the year which was Switzerland's first in the Giant Slalom in 10 years. 2nd was Kathrin Zettel of Austria with Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg in 3rd. Some famous names struggled including Slovenia's Tina Maze who finished a poor 13th: Not a good start for the reigning Crystal Globe champion but that was still better than German Maria Hoefle Riesch who crashed on the first run and Julia Mancuso who finished a disastrous 27th. Lindsey Vonn (Who's the only non-Brit who gets a mention by the BBC in Winter Sports) is still out with a leg injury.

My favourite biathlete Marie Dorin-Habert has announced today that she is expecting her first child in 9 months. I can't believe the rollercoaster she's been on since November when she injured her ankle and compromised her Olympics and now this delightful news which couldn't have happened to anyone better. Congrats to Marie and husband Lois

Well Marie signed off in style with a podium today. Now I feel bored that there's no more wintersport. Roll on November please

Think that's summer temps. Try my area. It's 91F over here. With about 85% humidity as well. :x

My area is getting constant days above 21C now. The temps in my town, ironically a name with the word snow in it, have been between 21C and 32C. It's starting to get dreadful already. At least my impending trip up north in June-July will likely feel more like spring.

Good news for those who like Curling you won't have long to wait for the next season. Apparently in the wake of GB's success at Sochi British Eurosport (The God Channel of winter sports as the BBC aren't really interested) are going to increase some Curling coverage starting November 22. Channels 521/522 on Virgin if you don't know.

So that's a grand total of...*counts heads*

...nobody. I think people prefer "curling one out" to just "curling".
