Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - 2015 Russia
Posted: 11 Oct 2015, 12:41
by Shizuka
based on the assumption that, at any moment in time, there is a non-zero probability that even the slowest, most inexperienced and least reliable of underdogs might win the race. That under every rock, there might be a gold nugget. This is the award for that first podium that we all celebrate, for the overtake no-one was expecting, for Ericsson's first win. This is the award, in short, for the driver or team that makes you go "Woah! Where did THAT come from?!".
Just remember: this is a feel-good award, that will focus on nothing but track action.
Usual rules: everyone gets two votes. First vote is worth 10 points, the second 6.

1. Sergio Perez - Because obviously.
2. Daniel Ricciardo - You might not have realised it, but he spent a good 15-20 laps running faster than Kvyat, after Kvyat pitted. One of his finest drives.

1. Checo Perez - not bad
2. Valtteri Bottas - didn't see him making it back to third, given how poor Williams have been at turning good qualifying positions into podiums, and he was very unfortunate to be a victim of Kimi at the end.

1. As much as I prefer Hülkenberg, Sergio Pérez has this one. Great drive.
2. Carlos Sainz, Jr. - great drive to 7th until the brakes failed. Unfortunate.
HM. Valtteri Bottas
HM. Felipe Nasr

1. Sergio Pérez: Brilliant drive, the complete opposite of what Hulk did.
2. Felipe Massa: He was lucky with all the incidents and failures but I never expected him to finish fourth from 15th on the grid.

Pérez: Extraordinary race. Great strategy, great tyre management, great defending, good luck at the end. A well-earned podium, despite Kimi's last-second help.
Sáinz: Unfortunate brake issues, but he was on a solid 7th, possibly 8th with the penalty, an amazing result considering where he was 24 hours erlier.

That guy had balls. Can see since as both IIDOTR or ROTR. Depending on your stance.

1)Sergio Pérez: Checo's now legendary tyre managment scores him another brilliant podium
2)Felipe Nasr: Keep himself out of problems, solid pace and points that could unrejectify him.
Honorable mentions to Carlos Sainz Jr. (bravely comeback after that massive shunt in practice), Valteri Bottas (so close, so far away thanks to Kimi "Sting" Raikkonen)

1) Sergio Perez: Impressive driving all weekend ended on a deserving 3rd place.
2)Felipe Massa: Nice comeback after bad qualifying and managed to keep himself out from trouble.

Sergio Perez - Checo doing what Checo does best, and it paid off big time
Felipe Nasr - Second unrejectification of the season. I've now probably lost my avatar bet with Simtek
Honourable mention to Carlos Sainz Jr, easily the unluckiest man in Formula 1 right now

So...Pérez has been picked first for IIDOTR by everyone so far. I now declare that anyone who dare break this streak in a fit of hipsterism will cop a forum ban for being deliberately obtuse

Perez Scored Force India's third ever podium in a very strong drive the podium was a result he was kind of gifted but even 5th place would have been a great race
Sainz lucky to have even been allowed to race after the practice crash looked likely to score points until his brakes decided that they no longer wanted to work

1) Sergio Perez: Good, solid performance; great result for a team that has been up and down this year.
2) Felipe Nasr: Unrejectified!
Honourable Mention: Carlos Sainz Jr. - plenty of balls to get back in the car after that crash and was running well before the retirement.

1. Sergio Perez: Not his biggest fan, but I doff my cap to you sir...
2. Felipe Massa.. err, I mean Nasr. Great drive. Was running 2nd during the stops and looked very comfortable throughout.
HM: McLaren for a double finish. What a time to be alive...
Podium hats. Oh how we laughed in the chatroom...

I've only just been able to see the race now but this one's clear cut: olé and tequila for Sergio Pérez!
And, as has been pointed out above, Kimi being a nutter means that yes, Felipe Nasr is unrejectified and that's worth a mention here! Not bad for someone who's usually viewed elsewhere as a pay-driver.
A great day for Latin America. A bad day for Finland...

2. Button - its a bit of a power track...so with only a Honda to push him along. And ahead of Fernando despite Fernando taking shortcuts ( apparently)

1. Pérez - no contest.
2. Massa - I thought it was impressive how he worked his way back all the way up to fourth, even if he got lucky with the Räikkönen/Bottas collision.

1. Perez (although jesus his overall looked so empty, not even Kingfisher sponsorship!)
2. Nasr and Sainz (because let's face it, Sainz was great until his car said no)
