The Nearly 100 Miles World Championship
This is a terrible name. If you have some witty suggestions for a replacement, I would welcome this.

The Nearly 100 Miles World Championship is built around what might have occurred if the agreed length for a World Championship Grand Prix had been a little bit different. Using lap-by-lap data on StatsF1, I shall be adjusting the race distance such that each Grand Prix will finish on the final completed lap before reaching 100 miles. For example, the chequered flag at the recent British Grand Prix would have been waved after 27 laps, giving a completed race distance of 98.82 miles.

I intend to use the points systems that were in place at the time for each respective season, although I may decide to ignore dropped scores and shared drives. I honestly haven't decided yet. Similarly, where lap-by-lap data is unavailable, the race shall be declared a non-Championship affair.

Hopefully that's all relatively clear.

2017 was a remarkable season. Dominated in its early stages by Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari, who won five of the opening six Grands Prix, he then watched his 46-point lead get comprehensively overturned as the final fourteen races were shared between Hamilton, Bottas, Ricciardo and Verstappen. Ferrari, however, could not find their way back to the top step of the podium.

Meanwhile, the remaining seven teams could not make it to any step of the podium, although Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Esteban Ocon, Sergio Perez (both Force India) and Lance Stroll (Williams) all succeeded in recording fourth-place finishes.
