Infinite Improbability Drive of the Race - Italy 2024

Post by Londoner »

1. Ferrari. Have we just entered an alternate universe where Maranello are...GOOD at strategy? :chilton:

2. Franco Colapinto. A very solid debut from the lad.

Agree with both of these. In particular, I wouldn't have tipped Charles Leclerc to even make the podium here, let alone win.

Ferrari: Somehow their strategy worked quite well honourable mention to Charles Leclerc aka Sharl Leg
Colapinto: After Logan Sargent contributes himself to Destructor Championship it is nice to see that Colapinto is doing much better

Credit where it is due, whilst we've criticised Ferrari in the past for poor strategies, they called it correctly here and picked up a win that I expect few thought they could deliver.

As for Colapinto, it's just the sort of debut that he needed - a nice clean race where he was able to make some good moves on other drivers, made up ground after qualifying and wasn't that far behind Albon at the end.

An honourable mention perhaps should also go to Magnussen for sneaking a point at the end of the race just ahead of Alonso.

Don't think I saw anything really, so I'm going for Gabriel Bortoletto for the dead heat point in F2 sprint race and then last to first in feature F2 race

Yep, Ferrari, Leclerc, Colapinto, and Kevin.
It's just unbelievable...that Formula 1 could be such a ridiculous melange of idiots.

Yup: Ferrari strategists (even if they did kinda sacrifice Sainz) and Colapinto for not setting fire to the upgrades

Ferrari for coming up with the right strategy for once, and doing it in their home race!

Honorable mention to Colapinto for a very mature race weekend – he drove like he had been there all season, and immediately overtook Bottas in the WDC.

IIDOTR has to go to the FIA for actually giving a driver a race ban after repeated beating around the bush in past instances.

Honourable mentions to Fezza and Colapinto, as others have already said.

1. Ferrari. Actually got a strategy call right. And it worked!!!

2. Williams. Albon got a couple of points and Colapinto did a really good job (Okay it's the best track to make your debut for Williams.

Hm Sauber. They weren't last!! Bottas was 9th at one point!!!!
Benetton of 1992. Never a reject

Agreeing 100% with the first post.

1. Ferrari: Strategy gamble that secured the win. They were better on tires than McLaren anyways. When Monza comes around, nobody is angry with a Ferrari win.

2. Colapinto: A solid debut drive. Just a few days back the masses were chastising Vowels for the decision to sack Sargeant -even though the same majority was equally criticizing him, yet somehow became fans after the sacking. Colapinto drove clean, probably could have made Q2 if things favoured him, and drove to a solid finish. He did a good job. This may violate IIDOTR definitions, but when the expectations were so low and a driver is perfectly adequate, it deserves a nomination.

HM: I will give kudos to Sergio Perez. He drove a perfectly adequate race. Yes, expectedly he was behind Verstappen. His pace was good for the current state of the RB20, and he drove a fairly clean race to the finish. Perez seems to be in a good place where he can perform as expected. He can bring a car home, nursing tires when others have burnt out theirs. Perez is a good, not great driver, but when placed in a less than advantageous (car wise) situation, and is not pressured to create a miracle, he will deliver just a little bit more than what is expected. Today the best of the best was able to extract 6th out of the car. Perez brought his home 8th. It was a good drive.

Kevin Magnussen

Gets 10 seconds penalty but scores a point ahead of Alonso by under 2 tenths of a second.

Also Ferrari.

Gotta be Charles for making that strategy work. Carlos in comparison really struggled with it.

Also agree with a HM for Checo - last 2 races he's been well within a pitstop of Max at the end which is what the team needs from him - it's looking more like Danny Ric is going to be out of F1 at this rate is VCARB want to take Lawson.

Also think this is the first time all year a Williams has been best non Red Bull/McLaren/Ferrari/Mercedes - think there's only Sauber yet to achieve that.

Late addition... Stake Sauber for tracking down the Bottas cosplayer, giving him VIP access and having Bottas meet him face to face
