Vanuatu - The Road to the World Cup

Ade, are you going to be the manager of the team, or just leave the AI to do it's thang?

I'm going to manage the team
Even If my first attempt ends in dismissal I will apply for the job as someone else.

Considering you're going for a run-of-the-mill 4-4-2 you should be expecting your P45 in days rather than weeks...

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can dream and not make dreams your master,
If you can think and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
And all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And, which is more, you'll be a Man, my son!
Ladies and gentlemen, Vanuatu will be playing four-four-bath-ploogin'-two!

Re: Vanuatu - The Road to the World Cup
By special request, Mr Rees has called me out of early football retirement and self imposed F1 Rejects exile for this:
Position: preferably GK, is not CB.
Your Date of Birth (and town/city of birth if you want to): 04/05/1989, Epsom
Your Nationality: Dual nationality English Vanuatuan (Vanuatuan through my cousin's wife's brother's gardener's dog's previous owner)
Your Height (in centimeters, unfortunately the pre-game editor only does metric not mint-emperials): 180cm (ish)
Your Favourite Teams: I have a favourite team from pretty much every country, but the main ones are AFC Wimbledon, Chelsea, Norwich City, Patrick Thistle, Hearts, Cercle Brugge, Le Mans, Udinese, Espanyol, Galatasaray, Portland Timbers, and Energie Cottbus
Your Least Favourite teams: Man United, Crawley Town, MK Dons, Tottenham Hotspur, Stevenage FC, Ipswich Town, Gillingham, Glasgow Rangers (even though I'm Protestant rather than Catholic, I think their fans are must worse than Celtic), Club Brugge
Your Favourite Players or Ex Players: Seb Brown, Jack Midson, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, David Luiz, Carlo Cudicini, Petr Cech, Arjen Robben, Damien Duff, Wes Hollahan, Grant Holt, Peter Osgood, Peter Bonetti, Gordon Banks, Emmanuel Eboue, Ali Dia, Antonio Di Natale, Lorik Cana, Karl Henry, John Spencer, Jon Pantsil Socrates
Your Least Favourite players or ex players: Roy Keane, El Hadji Diouf, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Tony Warner, Stephen Kelly (long story), Jon Walters (even longer story), Tom Henning Ovebro (wait, he's a referee), Matt Tubbs
Shirt Number: 27
PS I had a bet on from the start of last season with someone (Phoenix, I think) that Bruno Senna would unrejectify himself before Jaime Alguersuari. Don't think I hadn't forgotten about that.

Thanks to Watka we now have the miniumum amount of keepers required for a world cup finals squad.
Ali Dia, despite his notoriety is NOT on the FM2008 database, I can only assume why.

I can say I was at the original Wimbledon's last FA Cup match back in 2004. A bit of trivia there.

Re: Vanuatu - The Road to the World Cup
I was never really a fan of the old Wimbledon (was always more of a Chelsea fan), but AFC Wimbledon rocked up in Kingston, which is just a bus ride aware and I was hooked! Obviously I support everything they stand for, you can't expect your fans to go and support some franchised team up in Milton Keynes.

5 minutes into Malaysia game, Dagnall scores again, Christopherson with an excellent cross.
9 Minutes and Dagnall turns Provider for Morrison with a similar header, its 2-0 and the game has only begun....
11 minutes, its THREE!!! Dagnall is running off to the stands claiming the goal, but it looks like one of the Malaysian defenders wants the earth to open up and eat him.

In this case, I'll support Vanuatu trip to the World Cup.

So... was that formation against Pakistan best described as a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3? I've never liked 4-5-1 or - perish the thought - 5-4-1. It always seems too defensive. Still, with Chris Dagnall up front, who needs another striker?
How come there's only 20 players in the squad? I thought these were supposed to be squads of 23, or will that change for an actual tournament?
Now bring on Papua New Guinea...

I don't think it particularly matters what you call it, it can be an offensive 4-5-1 or a defensive 4-3-3. Technically, Brazil played with 5 defenders during 2002 World Cup and I bet nobody said they were too defensive.
Anyway, nice run from us so far.
And I'd like to add that our fans are the best.

Re: Vanuatu - The Road to the World Cup
Alright, those that were late getting onto the database, I'm having a redo of the database, it appears the oldest member of the forum who was granted a Vanuatu Visa was instantly turned into a coach and hung up his boots...
Think of the Pakistan and Malaysia games as a test to see if the team would work as a team, and they did work as a team.
But to make sure you get in, I need one more Central Defender and a Midfield Maestro as opposed to an Attacking Midfielder, I have plenty of them.
Also, I'm going to list those players who have found their way into a club side, if you are ok with the club that the database eventually chose for you to play with, you will be kept at that club, if you dont , you will remain a free agent for the start of the new database...
I call it 4-5(3)-1(3), but in some games its regarded as 4-1-4-1, its a formation used by certain top flight underdog teams in the early 2000s, such as Bolton Wanderers, at the time managed by Sam Allardyce, which kept them in the Premier League, which they still are to this day.

FM program makes these decisions, not ADx. So he can't be 'made' to be a player/coach. Once a player enters the database the user no longer has control over them.
