Embassy-Hill score on debut!

Damon Hill brought the Ferrari powered Embassy-Hill car home in 6th place today, scoring points in the first race. Attrition certainly helped, but the team are delighted they reached the finish. "The car remained strong throughout the race and I'm sure we can work harder to score more points", said Damon. Josh Hill sadly failed to finish the race, retiring with 9 laps to go with gearbox failure. "I was running well in 7th when a gear linkage snapped. I had no choice but to park the car. It's a shame, as we were on course for a handful of useful points."

If golic_2004 tells me what Honda specification he takes (After all, there are dozens of Honda engines out there ;)), I can go on with the next round of the SRL.

Thanks. :)

Here's a sneak preview at the circuit which will host the next two rounds of the Street Racing League. The Caesars Palace Circuit:

Las Vegas is known for many extravaganzas. The casinos, the hotels, the shows, the parties. But motor racing has been kinda rare there these days. The last event was the 2007 Champ Car race, on the streets of Vegas. This year, the SRL is returning to the city that never seems to sleep. But this year sees also the return of the Caesars Palace Grand Prix, which will be in fact a double-header. The road race comes first, with the oval race coming a day later. The SRL will have to deal with a tight schedule, but the large amount of money everyone (except for everyone except the SRL president Walther Williams) will receive in the end makes it worthy.

www.autosport.com wrote:Pre-qualifying sees some surprises...in the midfield

Pre-qualifying was an affair as usual, at least at the front of the field. In the midfield, there where some surprises. Like the decent performance by Mustaphaa Racing. Apparently their turbocharger seems to work now. Métro on the other hand just finished at the bottom of the top 20. But as this is just pre-qualifying, this isn't so dramatic. It would only be dramatic if they keep up their performance at the actual qualifying.
The positive surprise of pre-qualifying was the all-women team of Glass Hammer Racing. Natacha Gachnang and Alli Owens both managed to qualify for qualifying, which is remarkable because there were 35 cars competing in pre-qualifying. And here are the full results:

www.autosport.com wrote:HWNSNBM QUALIFIES!!!!! Oh, and Tsingiridis got on pole again

We chose this rather racy headline, because HWNSNBM has a large, vocal fan base. And they will be not doubt happy to see their hero qualify for the race, even if it is on 26th place. That's pretty much the biggest story of the qualifying, as Constantinos Tsingiridis scores another pole, with SRL Championship leader Heinz-Harald Frentzen behind him on second. A small surprise is Rubens Barrichello's eight place on the grid, but as long as his car doesn't fail him, he should make it quickly towards the podium ranks. Debutants Glass Hammer Racing deserves honourable mention, as they managed to qualify both cars for the race, as well as Prada Grand Prix, whose driver Gilles Panizzi managed to place his car on 25th grid, despite being more than 400BHP down on Tsingiridis' Skoda-VW. And as usual, here are the full qualifying results:

1. Constantinos Tsingiridis - Skoda Team Cyprus-VW – 1:04.219
2. Heinz-Harald Frentzen - Euromotor-Honda – 1:04.877 (+0.658 s)
3. Francois Duval - Métro léger de Charleroi-Megatron – 1:05.148 (+0.929s)
4. Jason Bargwanna - Garry Rogers SRL Motorsport-Holden – 1:05.547 (+1.328s)
5. Josh Hill - Embassy-Hill-Ferrari – 1:05.959 (+1.740s)
6. Michael Caruso - Garry Rogers SRL Motorsport-Holden –1:06.006 (+1.787s)
7. Claudio Langes - Mustaphaa Racing-Honda – 1:06.129 (+1.910s)
8. Rubens Barrichello - Skoda Team Cyprus-VW – 1:06.268 (+2.049s)
9. Michael Schumacher - Team Phoenix SRL-Audi – 1:06.430 (+2.211s)
10. Toshihiro Arai - 555 Racing-Supertec – 1:06.777 (+2.558s)
11. Damon Hill - Embassy-Hill-Ferrari – 1:06.810 (+2.591s)

ESPN wrote:ESPN Speedworld presents the Street Racing League from Las Vegas, part 1!

Today the SRL starts in its second race, which is also the first race in the Las Vegas double header. After ESPN pundit David Hobbs reminds us of the "millions of dollars" that have been spent for this event. So let's just dive right into the race, and what an action-packed it has been. Right from the start, Tsingiridis gets off the grid decently, but Rubens Barrichello clearly makes the best start into this race, going from 8th to 2nd place! Michael Schumacher hasn't been so lucky. He gets into a tangle with the Mustaphaa of Claudio Langes, and loses his front wing in the process. Schumacher has to rejoin the race from 26th, but steadily makes it back to points. Guess which driver Schumacher is going to visit this time.
At the front of the field, Barrichello continues to chase his teammate, until he spins in lap 4. He rejoins behind the pack of Frentzen, Duval and both Garry Rogers cars, which are also chasing Tsingiridis. But Francois Duval is the quickest of the group. First he passes Frentzen, and a couple of laps later he passes Tsingiridis to take the lead. But Duval is on a different fuel strategy than the others, as he has less fuel than his rivals. As Duval heads for the pits, Tsingiridis takes back the lead, but has to defend it against the continuing attacks by Jason Bargwanna. As both have some litres of fuel left, the battle goes on for some laps. But this is not the only battle in this race, as they are several good fights in the midfield.
Lap 24 sees a bizarre incident. Alain Prost's Phoenix suffers an engine failure, and he wants to move his car to the sidelines, he drags the 555 car of Toshihiro Arai with him. Arai loses his front wing, but can continue. Prost's retirement isn't the first of this day, as Kobayashi, Damon Hill and Vita Kouzkin also had to retire from the race by this point. Much more frightening is an incident in lap 28. Michael Carruso spins, and Rubens Barrichello can't duck the Garry Rogers-Holden, and hits it with perhaps more than 200 km/h. Miraculously, both men can continue, as Barrichello only has a damaged front nose. His retirement four laps later is not related to this accident, as he suffers from transmission failure. Two laps before, his teammate Tsingiridis also had to retire from the race, after his suspension broke, this causing Skoda-VW the second zero points in row.
The rest of the race is dominated by Jason Bargwanna, who easily wins his 1st SRL race, despite spinning at the exact same corner his teammate did in lap 34. Luckily, he isn't hit by anyone, thus enabling him to continue and to eventually win the race. Honorable mention also goes to Glass Hammer Racing, who scored their first points in their first race, as Alli Owens finishes in 7th place. For all the other results, here is the full classification:

1. Jason Bargwanna - Garry Rogers SRL Motorsport-Holden – 1h 31m 08.087s – 75 Laps

Frentzen gets second podium, keeps leadership of the board. Gachot operates a 'nice race'

Euromotor-Honda squad didn't achieved second win at the Street Racing League, but Heinz-Harald Frentzen secured another week of leadership at the drivers championship by finishing second in the Las Vegas Street Course, second round of the league, behind Jason Bargwanna, the winner, from Garry Rogers outfit. Meanwhile, Belgian Bertrand Gachot managed to do the driving he expected and nabbed a fifth place in the street of Sin City.

"The track layout made me feel very off pace sometimes. Too many bends and corners. The turns are so exhausting and there is hellish heat too. I couldn't fight very much for the first place, but surely my weekend wasn't bad. Now the quest is to keep myself in pace and getting the points", said a very exhausted Frentzen, who now extended himself in the SRL Drivers Leadership with 43 points, six ahead Bargwanna.

"Today I decided to take some decisions sometimes you can't have in racing, specially in a too demanding track that Las Vegas is. I felt myself that I could get the podium again, but the parts wore off in a way that I couldn't force too much. However, I am happy of what I did here today and my driving kept me always on the track of the leaders", explained Gachot.

Piercarlo Ghinzani, team's boss, had his views about the track layout. "I don't know why they did such track. They could use the streets of Vegas, the sights of casinos are too much to not see. But in a parking lot? What those guys down here want? And there are awesome street tracks in America, just see Long Beach or Detroit. Anyway, I am happy for us being with the cars running at the end and again scoring points. Now we need to get sometime of resting and fun before we focus on the oval track. That will be a great challenge of us, a street oval."

Euromotor leads the Constructors Championship with 71 points, with Garry Rogers in second place with 59 and Team Phoenix with 23 at third place.

www.autosport.com wrote:Come on Williams, you've got what you want. Take these turbos air!

Shortly before the oval race in Las Vegas, rumours arise that SRL President Walther Williams wants to reduce the power of the turbo engines, seeing that they have the advantage over most naturally aspirated engines, barring the Bugatti engine used by Skoda Team Cyprus and the Holden V10 used by Garry Rogers Motorsports. For the next race at Ai-Diab Circuit in Morocco, it is planned to decrease the performance of the turbos by 10%, while also restricting the performance of the Bugatti W16 and the Holden V10, to avoid them dominating the field after the restrictions of the turbos.

It also planned to give weaker engines a performance boost, but how has yet to be determined.
