Re: Your Reject of the Race - Japan!
ROTR should be the way the grid penalties are implemented. As I said in the Japanese GP discussion thread in reality it penalises people like Kubica and Alguersuari who should be further up the grid and gives people like Barrichello an effective get out of jail free card.

My ROTR is the stewards for cocking up the grid.

Reject of the Race to the actual race for being such a letdown after practice and all the qualifying sessions had my hopes up for a 1996 Monaco GP.
Despite the fact that Toro Rosso is a more deserving choice.
Honorable mention to the suggestion that Nelson Piquet Junior is going to NASCAR.

ROTR must go to STR... they spend more time off the track than on it.

now, with race over:
Str drivers: Wings Damage, Chassis Damage, Spins....
Grosjean: Lapped by team mate and everything. (of course, safety car helped this, but he's lapped).
Kovalainen: Hits Sutil and no scores points against a podium of hamilton.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Japan!
As per usual, I have four nominees.
Torro Rosso
No explanation needed. Four crashes, a stall at the start and a grid penalty after qualifying.
However, something did come about from Alguersuari's crash, it spiced up the last few laps of the race, just as the threshold of tedium combined with a very early race equated into sleep.
Mark Webber
Not that he himself did anything rejectful, he even set the fastest lap at the end of the race. The nomination is more down to his luck, which after holding reasonably well through most of the season, has truly deserted him now.
F1 Ultra-reliability
After yesterday's qualifying and the carnage that happened within, as well as the amount of components changes afterwards, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the race would be equally as exciting. But instead we have just a few laps of remotely close racing, and even those came at the expense of the new boy.
Heikki Kovalainen's Defence
An entirely pointless, half-arsed, clumsy and slow moving block on Adrian Sutil results in an entirely pointless, half-arsed, clumsy and slow-moving accident, that denied Force India the chance of some points at Suzuka. There was no real reason for him to defend: Sutil had the line and Kovalainen had to go off-track in order to remain alongside, plus Sutil was going to pit the next lap anyway, he would easily be taken at his stop. Even the resulting spin seemed rejectful. However, tha banzai move on Fisi out of the pits saves Heikki from being entirely nominated, so I'm just going for his defensive work.

How about F1 in 2009 in general? It makes me feel like crying when I compare this race to the 1989 Suzuka... F1 is so desperately dull these days..
Re: Your Reject of the Race - Japan!
Grid order messing gets my vote.
Re: Your Reject of the Race - Japan!
My vote goes to the Actual Race. It was so bad I went back to sleep halfway through and when I saw the results afterwards all I'd missed was the accident at 130R. If they can't overtake at Suzuka and Spa they can't overtaake anywhere.

Either
Ross Brawn - for a crap qualifying strategy, which blew away the race, and maybe the championship.
Buemi - Crashes, penalties, retirements, and shook up the whole grid.
Toro Rosso - As Buemi, plus Alg???ries crash

Nope. Brawn need just one point to seal the constructors' championship.
As for the drivers', both Vettel and Barrichello need a top-three finish in Brazil if Button scores points; otherwise, the deciders goes to Abu Dhabi and Button will only need a handful of points - like sixth, seventh or eighth - to be able to seal it.

Not just that, but even if Brawn were to totally strike out from here on in, Red Bull need to 1-2 (simply winning wouldn't be enough) both remaining races. and that just isn't going to happen.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Japan!
STR - for obvious reasons.
The Overtaking Group - for obvious reasons. Yeah, that really worked, fellahs.
Japan 2009 - even the other fast races had overtaking on the first couple of laps. And when this one got exciting at the very end, there was still little or no actual overtaking.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Japan!
Not many rejectfulness going on, I though.
Kovalainen was unnecessarily aggressive defending after Sutil passed him, and ruined Adrian's points scoring chances. Surely, Vijjay Mallya will shoot any Finnish on sight by now. However, Heikki made a great move on Fisichella leaving the pit lane, making Giancarlo look like a rookie.
STR gets a nomination, for unfulfilled potential. They were clearly quick, but erratic.
Maybe Renault should be ROTR. Completely dropped into oblivion, especially after the penalties.

Toro Rosso. Had some speed for once, did they make good use of it? 2 crashes for Alguesuari, accident, idiotic driving from, fair penalty and mechancial faliure for Buemi. Only 2 DNFs in the field. If it weren't for Vettel's performance I'd say entire Red Bull family, given Webber's race. Maybe the entire Red Bull family except Vettel?

Jamie Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi for wasting fast cars. I didn't nominate Toro Rosso because the car was good, they didn't do anything wrong (except maybe hiring Seb and Jamie in the first place).
Romain Grrrrrrrrjjjjjjjjnnnnnn for quite simply being very slow. Though, I personally give him a +1 for that, it gave Vettel a buffer at the restart.

As my forespeakers all have said it, it must be plain obvious: the repair bill of Toro Rosso for ROTR Suzuka 2009.
Franz Tost probably wishes now he had pay drivers in the cars whose sponsors would have to cover the costs.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Japan!
Rejects of the race are clearly The Stewards for letting Nico Rosberg get away with breaking the safety car delta and gaining positions.
I really don't understand sometimes; they penalised 4 drivers in qualifying for not slowing down through the yellow flag zone, but allow Rosberg to exceed the safety car delta because his 'Low Fuel' warning obscured the safety car delta on his steering wheel.
First of all, Rosberg broke the rule and should be punished. It's ludicrous that they've let him get away with it. Second, Williams should be severely reprimanded for allowing a warning message to override the safety information on the steering wheel.
If I were Ross Brawn I'd be considering an appeal, but I suppose he's trying to avoid yet another trip to Paris for the F1 journos this year. Plus, he'll win the WCC in Brazil anyway.

They let him off because it was the fault of the ECU (standard for all cars), and that Williams did nothing wrong. He broke the rules but as it wasn't his or the team's fault its debateable whether he should have been penalised.

I think that's got to be the STR drivers for ROTR for wasting good cars (4 crashes in a weekend) and causing the grid debacle. Other than that, there are no other candidates except the race itself (Grosjean is spared because he actually finished the race, Kovy is spared because of his move on Fisi).

The race was such a non-event that I'd go back to the qualifiying and hand it out to jackasses that don't know what a yellow flag means. I don't give a damn if you need to get your fast lap time in, that's no goddamn excuse for potentially putting the lives of any marshalls that may be on the track in danger.

I wouldn't say Alguersuari's shite, he's at least in the same time zone as Buemi, and I reckon he's about on Bourdais' pace prior to him being dumped, which, considering the disappointment in mid-season replacements thanks to the testing ban, isn't too bad. At least he isn't embarrassing himself like Fisi and GRRJJJNNN are, though it doesn't excuse his accidents in Suzuka.

Re: Your Reject of the Race - Japan!
I think that the obvious choice is Scuderia Toro Rosso, the only team to have DNFs throughout the race, and the team with far too many accidents during qualifying. I think it proves why bringing junior drivers in to this level without enough experience isn't necessarily a good idea. Alguersuari's crash did liven up what was a frustratingly dull race, though - right as it was about to end.

It was quite a crash, wasn't it? I particularly enjoyed the way he managed to nail the ING billboard whilst going sideways and shatter it perfectly. It couldn't have been done better with a grizzled stunt driver given ten takes and little explosives inside the styrofoam. Astonishing. Infinite Improbability... Slide.... of the race for that.
