BIG 4
The term "Big 4" used to be used lots when referring to Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Benetton/Renault.
I will do all the seasons up to now by getting rid of these 4 (5 including Renault) and getting rid of other teams that use the same engines as these teams. For the points system, I will use the Medal System- 3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd. And for 1950-1957 , when they didn't have the constructors cup, I will have a constructors cup for them as well.

I have all but 1 question: DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO?

The thought does cross one's mind, but I really appreciate what you're up to there. Keep up; Fagioli has just beat Farina and Fangio (what was it with the Fs in the Fifties?!), and became the first F1WDC!
Stay home, Colin Kolles!

Re: BIG 4
Well the medals system hasn't worked then - Fagioli's won the title without winning a race!

Re: BIG 4
Medals system without points would probably have crowned Fangio champion.
Why?
They both have 3 victories and no other podiums apart from those wins.
But Fangio has 4 pole positions to Farina's 2.
Seems like a fair tiebreaker to me.

For me Manzon is mostly familiar because he is one of I think there was four drivers of 1950 who are still alive.

Peter Collins handed his car to Fangio at Monaco in 1956, helping Fangio to his 4th title, at which point he was driving for Ferrari. He won 3 races, and died in a crash at the Nurburgring in 1958.

Yeah, I didn't notice him there. His death caused Hawthorn to become disillusioned despite his Championship.

Amazingly he got away with it
Connaught - British team I think, Irish province Yes, they were british, perenially underfunded and reletively off the pace, got a best result of 4th and 5th at Monza 1956 (but were 3 laps down), and got another 4th in mid 1957 before closing up shop and vanishing. Name has been revived for a limited production sports car by Connaught Engineering
Veritas - Roman god of truthfulness German, classify as rejects by this sites standards, and the name is currently being resurected for some small sports car manufacturer somewhere

Given that Nash used to be an American car company IIRC, I reckon they only did the Indy 500. But yes, Frazer Nash is clearly one of the greatest names ever. Of all time.

You'd be wrong, sorry, they were British, named after a Mr Frazer-Nash in 1922, they only competed in the 1952 season, and scored a 4th place at the Swiss GP at the hands of Ken Wharton. DNF'd two other starts, and a 21st place and that was it

That makes more sense, I haven't ever heard of anyone racing an American Nash, especially not in F1.

What kind of a weird points scoring system are you using? I don't recall that ever actually being used.

Re: BIG 4 UPDATED
I decided to use the planned medal system-3 points for 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for 3rd. I mentioned that in the first post. Don;t forget that soon when other teams use the same engine manufacturer as the big 4, they will be dropped unless if that only leaves one team or no teams.
Re: BIG 4
Regarding the fact that in the 50s, the "Big 4" would probably have been Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes and Maserati - isn't it a bit pointless subtracting teams like Williams or McLaren from these results when they weren't even around?
I think if you're going to do these kind of calculations, you should view each decade or semi-decade separately and decide upon that who are the "Big 4" of each timespan.
In the 70s, Tyrell and Lotus clearly belonged to the "Big 4". And when it comes to the 80s, Motor Racing Developments should not be overlooked. And who knows, maybe Brawn will continue to be among the "Big 4" in the 2010s?

If I do that, especially in the 50s, there will be not enough teams. Remember that not only am I removing the big 4, I am also removing the teams with the same engine manufacturer as the big 4. However in 2009, I won't do that because otherwise there will be only one team: BMW. The unofficial rule for this fantasy championship is that there has to be more than one team for there to be a race. There will be a few races in 1956 that I will not include, because if I take away the Ferraris that will only leave Maserati.
