All a former Formula One driver needs to do to escape eligibility for this site is to have been successful in F1. Specifically, they must have scored ...
• a 4th, 3rd, 2nd or 1st place, or
• a 5th place, plus any other top-6 result, or
• three or more 6th places
How hard can that be? Very!
Active 2012 rejects:
Sergio Perez-
Best career result? 7th place, 2011 British GP, 2nd Best results 8th place 2011 Japanese GP, 2012 Australian GP
Chances of a top 6 finish? High! At some point I expect Perez to get this breakthrough result but maybe not more than once.
Chance of unrejectifying himself in his career?- Given his Ferrari links and his obvious talent, very high. Maybe not this year. 9/10 This year? Outside chance.
Daniel Ricciardo-
Best career result? 9th place 2012 Australian GP
Chances of a top 6 finish? A possibility. The Toro Rosso seems capable of points finishes and it only takes one outstanding weekend. He will have to take the chance when it arrives though.
Chance of unrejectifying himself in his career? - Fairly good but as a Toro Rosso driver he could be on the scrapheap soon. 5/10 This year? Don't think so, sorry!
Pastor Maldonado-
Best career result? - 10th place 2011 Belgian GP
Chances of a top 6 finish? Decent, but he's blown two top 6 finishes already, where he'd have been one good result from escaping this site and possibly the pay driver stigma with it.
Chance of unrejectifying himself in his career? - He's got the moolah so will surely be racing around for a while yet. 7/10 This year? You'll be lucky.
Paul Di Resta
Best career result? - 6th place 2011 Singapore GP, 7th Place 2011 Hungarian GP
Chances of a top 6 result - So far this year Force India don't look as quick- either that or are poor on their tyres. But he has the aptitude if the time comes.
Chance of unrejectifying himself in his career - Quite likely if he's able to stick around. 6.5/10 This year? Well, only one good weekend needed potentially...but no.
Nico Hulkenberg
Best career result? - 6th place 2011 Hungarian GP, 7th Place 2011 Italian GP
Chances of a top 6 result? - So far this year Force India don't look as quick- either that or are poor on their tyres. But he has the aptitude if the time comes.
Chance of unrejectifying himself in his career? - Quite likely if he's able to stick around. 6.5/10 This year? Well, only one good weekend needed potentially...but no.
Jean-Eric Vergne
Best career result? - 11th Place 2012 Australian GP
Chances of a top 6 result? - A possibility. The Toro Rosso seems capable of points finishes and it only takes one outstanding weekend. He will have to take the chance when it arrives though.
Chance of unrejectifying himself in his career? - Who knows? Buemi and Alguersuari didn't manage to. 5/10 This year? Errm. It would be a surprise.
Romain Grosjean
Best career result? - 13th place 2009 Brazilian GP
Chances of a top 6 result? Good. If he doesn't this year he'll be lucky to ever get another chance.
Chance of unrejectifying himself in his career? Very good given the machinery at his disposal. 9/10 This year? As mentioned, if he doesn't this year he'll be lucky to ever get another chance.
Bruno Senna
Best career result? - 9th place 2011 Italian GP
Chances of a top 6 result? - Williams looks capable but he'll have to add something himself you feel, he won't be gifted it.
Chance of unrejectifying himself in his career? He's called Senna so he probably will get endless chances. 7/10 This year? Not this year.
Charles Pic
Best career result? - 15th place 2012 Australian GP
Chances of a top 6 result? - The sky doesn't seem to be falling in and I'm still breathing in and out, so you work it out.
Chances of unrejectifying himself in his career? Erm, probably not with Marussia. Look at the long careers Di Grassi and D'Ambrosio had. 2/10 This year? It would certainly be one of the sports biggest surprises.
Is this about right, do you think?
