The HRT thread
Re: The HRT thread
Mario, care to shed a little light on exactly what HRT is trying to do with their single flap front wing? Considering that this is the first I've ever seen of a single flap front wing, or at least of one so basic and plane, isn't it just going to hold them back from a more conventional, multi flap? Or am I just crazy?

The Ferrari F60 had a similar single flap. That's the only thing I can compare it too. HRT just has a more complex end plates and front element.

And here's the HRT front wing for reference.

Surely a certainty to be HRT's next sponsor? I can just see the press release now:

Wow that doesn't look good. The problem is Bankia have quite a large presence in MotoGP, well Moto2 and 3 at least, so if they went tits up, I'd imagine a few teams and Spanish riders would be without some financial support.

There is still hope. Although I don't know what kind of repercussions would happen in Spain and in the rest of Europe.

I think investors would get crazy and the rest of spanish banks would face massive losses in the Stock markets, forcing the government to rescue them.

The big question though, is can the Spanish government manage such a financially enormous task?

I don't think so. Times are tough; if they're going to rescue banks, they should only focus on those that have more repercussions for the markets.

And using public money to bail out crooks who risked other people money. Then the government start hard austerity plans to try and get some of that money under the banner "You people expended beyond what you could and now must pay the generated debts". What a bunch of liars and criminals...

Sorry to address this point some time later - I've only just spotted this now that this thread has been bumped back up.
Anyway, in some senses, yes, going for a single flap front wing does have some limitations, the main one being possible flow separation at higher angles of attack (the airflow between the flaps on a multiple element front wing can be used to reduce the amount of flow separation, thereby improving the efficiency of the front wing). There could be a couple of reasons why they haven't gone for a multiple element front wing - one possibility is that the wake from a multiple element front wing (such as the one they were using in the past) was detrimental to their design, particularly its interaction with the wake from the front tyre. Alternatively, it may be a sign of a lack of rear downforce, with the team looking for ways to improve airflow to the rear of the car (or even shedding some front downforce) as a means of improving the balance of the car. It may even simply be down to cost, with the team finding that their money is better invested elsewhere (such as in the design of their front wing endplates).

If HRT have any sense, they'll listen to PDLR's words and treat them like gospel. He's been around long enough now to know how developing a car works. There's not many out there better than him at what he does.

That looks brilliant! Really nice facility they seem to have there, although parts of it in the video do look a bit half-finished, when they were wheeling the cars in off the lorries. Hopefully this will help the team in closing the gap to the rest of the field!

They have only been in situ for 6 weeks or so and it took 2 weeks to get it to that state.

Not just you. I thought the interior was identical, like a miniature version of Woking. Which can only be promising I suppose.

Give us a call if you do. While half of me says that a "sensible" factory tour would be the one offered by Caterham, the other half of me that is derived from Yorkshire says that I should favour the team that had its roots there. Plus, I can finally get an answer about the VR-01 with the mutant sidepods.

One smells there is some Chinese cash around. I know there are some rumours about Karthikeyan and his backing leaving, but I think there is a chance that Ma could be racing at the end of the year. Also, during the factory launches, Ma has been around but not so the Indian.
I guess we will wait and see if HRT attend the test in the first place.

Would he even qualify for a super-license? Maybe running him at the test is the first step to getting him one. I don't think he's China's best driver though.

Well, it takes 300 km in a current Formula One car to attain a super license, that equals 51 laps on the longer Silverstone circuit, assuming they will test there - that can be done within one day of testing if the car does not break down.
