Nico Rosberg could be a dark horse for 2009 I reckon.

2009 SEASON

The 2009 season was exactly what the JWDC needed after a couple years of snoozefests. The season started with two victories for Toyota's Timo Glock. The wins were both Glock's and Toyota's first in the JWDC. Nico Rosberg also started his season well by finishing second in both Australia and in the rain shortened Malaysia race, where only half points were awarded. The next three races (China, Bahrain, Spain) were won by Sebastian Vettel but Glock finished on the podium in each of these and Rosberg twice. The standing after round 5 out of 17 was Glock 37, Vettel 36, Rosberg 30. Their nearest challenger was Sebastien Buemi with 16,5 points so it was starting to look like a three way German battle for the championship.

In the streets of Monaco, round 6, Vettel retired with an accident. Meanwhile Rosberg won the race and Glock finished 2nd. In the following three rounds (Turkey, Great Britain, Germany) Vettel once again hit back, taking three wins. Howevere, Rosberg finished 2nd in all of them and Glock managed to collect 17 points. The standing after round 9/17 was Vettel 66, Rosberg 64, Glock 62.

In the Hungarian GP Vettel retired when his suspension collapsed while Rosberg and Glock finished first and second respectively. As a result, Rosberg took the lead in the championship yet again. In the next round Sebastian's car once again broke down, this time the engine blew up. Rosberg, having taken a liking to the street circuits like his dad Keke did, took the win in Valencia. Glock only managed 4th as Robert Kubica's BMW Sauber and Adrian Sutil's Force India showed increased pace. The championship standing now was Rosberg 84, Glock 75, Vettel 66.

After two disastrous races Vettel came back as determined as ever. He still had a slight chance to also capture the WDC after the pace of Button and his Brawn had mystically disappeared post Turkey. In Belgium Vettel took a beautiful JWDC win with Kubica managing to capture 2nd before Rosberg and Glock. In Italy the pace improvement of Force India that had already been seen in Belgium, proved to be real as Sutil won his first JWDC grand prix. Vettel finished second while Glock finished 4th for the third time in a row. Rosberg had a horrible weekend and only managed two points. In Singapore Glock, knowing that a string of 4ths will not win him the title, upped his pace, taking the victory at the chequered flag before Vettel. Rosberg finished 5th and the championship standing going into the last three rounds was Rosberg 96, Glock 95, Vettel 92.

In Japan Glock had an accident that broke his leg and he would miss the remainder of the season, a disappointing end to a great campaign! Vettel won on Sunday and Rosberg finished second. Rosberg now lead the championship with 104 points against Vettel's 102. In the penultimate round, the Brazilian GP, Vettel finished second after Kubica took the first non-German win of the season. However, for the first time this season Nico Rosberg failed to score when the gearbox in his car broke. This meant that Vettel regained the championship lead at a crucial point of the season. Sebastian now had a 6 point lead over Rosberg, and Vettel knew that if his car wouldn't brake down in Abu Dhabi, he'd pretty much be the 2009 champion.

In Abu Dhabi Vettel put on a great showing, winning the GP overall and becoming the youngest JWDC champion in history, a record that stood for 29 years and was held by Elio de Angelis. Rosberg finished 4th and took silver in the championship. Glock's replacement in the Toyota car, Kamui Kobayashi, took his first podium in the desert by finishing a superb second!

I was going to say that Vettel was fully on track to destroy every single record until I realised that he can no longer compete here

So, let's see what happens in 2011... Rosberg must finally win something because there are no Red Bulls, no Ferraris, no McLarens, no Schumacher and no Heidfeld here, so his biggest rivals are Kobayashi and Petrov.

I have posted the 2011 standings in the second post ;)

2011 is certainly an interesting season thus far. Rosberg is leading and has started to pull away and clearly is the favourite but lets see what Kamui and Petrov can do about that.

It's incredible that Pastor Maldonado only has 8 more points than Jerome d'Ambrosio despite the evident car difference...

Maldonado is usually the worst of established teams and d'Ambrosio the best of second-year teams, as until recent races he was the only competitor there.

Re: Formula One Junior World Drivers' Championship (JWDC)

Post by Benetton »

So with all the seats for 2012 now being confirmed let me present the 2012 JWDC entry list.

Nico Rosberg (Mercedes)
Romain Grosjean (Lotus-Renault)
Paul di Resta (Force India-Mercedes)
Nico Hulkenberg (Force India-Mercedes)
Kamui Kobayashi (Sauber-Ferrari)
Sergio Perez (Sauber-Ferrari)
Daniel Ricciardo (STR-Ferrari)
Jean-Eric Vergne (STR-Ferrari)
Pastor Maldonado (Williams-Renault)
Charles Pic (Marussia-Cosworth)

The clear favourite out of the 10 drivers for this year is 2011 champion Nico Rosberg. He can expect a good challenge from Paul di Resta, who IMO is the one to take the challenge up to Rosberg as long as his Force India machinery proves reliable and somewhat quick.

I so want RRRMMMMNNNN GRRRRSSSJJJNNNNN to win this ( he might well win the elimination one too with no Kimi and all the top 4 teams' drivers). Didn't realise Petrov is now too old for this.

BTW I'd like to try and do a mirroring championship similar to this but for veteran drivers, but I can't quite decide the age cut-off and the criteria for former champions. I was thinking about making it 34 (same age as me now so I don't include any drivers younger than me!) and include former champions but they get wiped from that year's results if they win the real championship!

Only 10 out of 24 drivers are eligible for this. Out of the six world champions on the grid, only Vettel and Hamilton are under 27, which means half of the grid are very close to or over 30 years old...

Well he pretty much was always awesome in Canada during all these years, not even far off the legit race win so I for my part would not be surprised.

Another little note, most winners in Canada go on to win the championship in the same year or the year after.

Well,apart from Fisichella...
My friend's USB drive spoiled, spilled tea on her laptop and had a bird poo in her hand.

What did she do in her past life to deserve this?
