The New Millenium: Another F1 Managing League

Post by eichy »

Yes, here we go again. You take control of the teams, and run them to the best of your abilities. This one starts with the 2000 season, it started the run of Michael's five year run with Ferrari, but can you change that? You MAY change team names, but no fictional drivers please. Note that the teams' performances will reflect real-life performances rather well, so be wise in which team you choose. ;)

2000
McLaren - EuroBrun
1. Mika Hakkinen (FIN)
2. Jean Alesi (FRA)

Ferrari - Phoenix

After one season, the BAR team has been sold at the 11th hour to a group of American businessmen who have renamed the team "Lucky Strike USF1". An all-American lineup will feature NASCAR star Jeff Gordon as the lead driver with CART backmarker Alex Barron as the second driver.

In what many would consider a shocking move, Prost considers signing the 1999 Asian Formula 2000 Champion Nattapong Horthongkum as either second or reserve driver. According to sources within the team, a major sponsorship package by Castrol could make this deal possible. Should that deal fail because of Horthongkum not receiving a F1 license, Sébastien Bourdais is tipped to take the second seat.

While the same source considers it likely that Olivier Panis will remain the teams' lead driver, Jacques Villeneuve and Ralf Schumacher announced to have started negotiations with the French team.

Tracy to Jaguar?
With thanks to strong American backing from Ford, Jaguar Racing are looking into the possibility of signing race-winning CART driver Paul Tracy. Whilst nothing has been heard from Paul himself, a change of scenery over the water may be what he is after at this stage of his career.

Some Hopelessly Inaccurate Tabloid wrote:EXCLUSIVE: Colin McRae to Jordan!

In a sensational career twist, former World Rally Champion Colin McRae is said to be on the verge of making a shock switch to Formula One with the Jordan Grand Prix team.

The flying Scotsman has driven a Jordan GP car in the past, testing for the team at Silverstone in 1996. Eddie Jordan openly said at the time he had the skill and natural talent to succeed in F1, and it appears EJ was entirely serious about those comments.

Last season was a mixed one for McRae, having just switched to Ford last year, the new Focus had shown pace but also suffered unreliability. With a world title already under his belt, perhaps a new challenge in F1 is just what he needs.

In a sudden turn of events, the Italian alloy wheel mangate Gabriele Rumi has bought out Giancarlo Minardi's stocks in his team. Right after the deal was announced, Rumi also told the media that the team shall be renamed Fondmetal, bringing back the name with which Rumi ran his own Formula One team in 1991 and 1992.

"This wouldn't have been possible without a certain French businessman, who wishes to not be named. His financial help convinced me to make this move, and I'm very happy to own a team again. Ford increase stake in jaguar.
Jaguar Racing may be on the verge of a complete takeover by parent company Ford, after the engine suppliers and main sponsor increased their input by another 20%, putting them on 50%. A Jaguar spokesperson was pleased to see more interest in the teams debut for 2000. "It helps us financially in the short and long haul."
Whilst no news has come from the contract talks with American CART driver Paul Tracy, the other seat is hotly contested between Jarno Trulli and Giancarlo Fisichella.

Budget constraints force us to use the same Ford engine as the previous season. However, it shall be rebadged as Fondmetal, so that it seems on the outside that were producing both our own chassis and engine.

Prost will continue business with Peugeot for the 2000 season in accordance with their contract. Prost, however, is looking for a two-year BMW customer deal from 2001 onwards.

Since I have not heard any objections, Nattapong Horthongkum is Prost's second driver.

GPUpdate wrote:Brabham seek new engine deal
The freshly renamed Brabham team will be on the hunt for a new engine deal, as the new management has scrapped the 'home-grown' project that powered the team in 1998 and 1999. The Arrows V10 wasn't competitive enough to make it a favourable for the new management, and so they will look for a new partnership. Contact has been made with many suppliers; Cosworth, Peugeot and Honda were the three options most conducive to a long-term partnership. A decision will be made soon, a team spokesperson has told us.

The team has also signed major sponsorship deals with LG and Eidos, which will see the team change back to it's dark blue and white colours, where the blue will be prominent to differentiate itself from the Williams cars. The driver shortlist has also been shrunk to Jan Magnussen and Alex Wurz.

The holder of the second seat at Jordan was fully revealed this Friday afternoon, when team owner Eddie Jordan announced a deal to hire Scottish David Coulthard to partner his compatriot Colin McRae for the 2000 Formula One season. Coulthard previously was at McLaren, where he partnered the two-time World Champion Mika Hakkinen.

"David is a experienced driver and will be what we just need to develop Jordan into a contender", said Jordan. Coulthard showed happiness with his new team and hopes Jordan to fight for good places in the upcoming season.

"I trust on Eddie's plan for the year. I talked earlier with McRae and he seems quite excited as me with what Jordan offered us"

Jordan planned to unveil its new car, the EJ10, next week and start testing at some British tracks, with their new test driver, Brazilian Mario Haberfeld

Autosport wrote:Brabham sign engine deal
After careful deliberation, Brabham have announced that they will sign an engine deal with Peugeot. According to a team spokesperson, this is due to Peugeot being able to focus fully on the team from 2001, as Prost's contract expires.
Eccentric French team boss Jacques Couteau said "We have signed a three year deal, the first of which will be a customer deal. We'll receive the same engines as Prost, but our technicians will ensure that they are as reliable as possible. We feel that the previous management (TWR) were far too inconsistent with engine selection, so a long-term partnership was ideal for us. We considered Cosworth and Honda, but we felt that we'd always be second-fiddle to Jaguar or BAR."
Peugeot F1 chief Corrado Provera said "We are delighted to sign this deal with Brabham; we hope that the new management will help bring success back to the Brabham name. I think we can help the team achieve that goal."
Brabham have also announced that chief designer Eghbal Hamidy has signed a new long-term deal with the team, aimed at further revolutionising the team's setup which notoriously had a high turnover of designers in the past. The identity of the driver who will partner new signing Nick Heidfeld has still yet to be named.
