After watching the rowing and Australia take yet another silver, I've decided that's it, I'm going to plan B. For the next week, I'm Dutch.

Women's tennis final is like Formula One 2004. Only Williams is dominating instead of Ferrari.

2004 is still more fitting - 12 of 13 games won.

They probably would've won more if they had someone like Schumacher instead of Mansell.

Reject drama in shooting - San Marino was really close to their first ever Olympic medal after a three-way tie for second. After shoot-out, Alessandra Perilli finished 4th.
Re: The Ben Pon/Eric the Eel Olympic thread
That has to have been the greatest hour in athletics for Team GB, ever. GOLD for Jess Ennis in the women's hepthalon. GOLD for Greg Rutherford in the men's long jump final. And GOLD for Mo Farah in the men's 10,000 metres final. What a bathplugging brilliant display!

Hear, hear! Hard to say which one I am most pleased about, but I think it has to be Mo Farah. He represents what is great about this country in that we welcome immigrants and give them the sporting opportunities in school to become Olympic Champions. I really hope this will shut up all the Muslim Immigrant bashing press in this country.
Maria De Villotta will forever be badass. Rest in Peace.

So, Satu Mäkelä-Nummela, the gold medalist from the Beijing games, fails and is 7th in women's trap shooting. And that's so far our best result in the games.

Some of my friends who follow the Olympics are mad that PKs are the way they end the football games after the added 30 minutes. With him saying there is way too much luck involved. There is some luck involved but he's saying it's 90% luck, which I find absurd.
Wait, South Korea has a chance at winning a medal at Men's football?

I still can't beleive we lost to them. Shows you how weak the Olympic team is; we should have comfotably beaten them on the field, before it got to penalties! The normal national squad are flops too

They must have brought in referees to officiate their games recommended by Juventus again.

I went to see that at the Ricoh Aren...I mean err City of Coventry Stadium. Tickets were only £20 each, and we got them the day before. The atmosphere was brilliant during the game, even though we were pretty comprehensively outplayed for much of it, had very little width and didn't create many chances, we had a great laugh with the people around us. There were still a few empty seats in places though, but the attendance was still about 40,000 I believe, which is a lot more than Coventry City will manage for next season!

That's why two penalties were awarded against them in 5 minutes yesterday.

Nothing, now, this was the real Hungarian anthem. When we won the first gold in fencing a week ago, then some song was played, only vaguely similar to this.

Towards the bottom of that list, there is another horse called "Pastor" - perhaps because it is also prone to crashing into barriers?

Given the time set in the event, that is actually quite likely what happened

Although maybe the horse got distracted, because the jockey...muito quente...

Fixed, Portugal-wise. What is more ridiculous is that the absence of funding in any sport other than Football is so flagrant and Portuguese people still think our mostly amateur (semi-professional at best) athletes have the obligation of bringing in medals. Talk about living outside reality (our politicians somehow still think we are a first world country).

Oh man, this USA vs Canada Semi-Final game just got really good.
It's 3-2 Canada into the 74th minute.
EDIT: Now Canada loses at the end of extra time. Poop.

Re: The Ben Pon/Eric the Eel Olympic thread
Nuppiz, do not despair - Tuuli Petaja is currently joint 2nd in the women's windsurfing (at the moment she'd get bronze on countback), so she has a strong chance of silver if she beats Israeli competitor Lee-El Korsiz, who is currently equalling her score. However, if the Spanish entrant (Marina Alabau Neira) has a bad day and Tuuli has a good one (and the day in question is better than Lee-El's), Finland can finish today with a gold medal.
It's a closely-fought battle and Tuuli could finish 7th about as easily as she could win. Still, a medal of some colour is the most likely result.
tommykl, in Portugul's case, it's a bit more difficult to see where the medal will come from. The kayak women's fours have made it to the final 8, having produced the second-fastest time in the heats (I can't find their semi-final time). They're due to compete for medals tomorrow morning.
I'm really pleased with how my team (Britain) has done - there have been some unexpected good results as well as a lot of good sportsmanship. In fact, the overall standard of sportsmanship at this Olympics from the athletes has been excellent, which makes the antics of the 8 badminton match-throwers even more disappointing. Just to put the icing on the cake, the post box that is being painted gold in Jessica Ennis' honour is on my route to college, so I'll get to see it every week in term-time. Having proofread articles about Jessica for the student paper when both of us were at university (albeit studying in departments half a mile away from each other), I feel especially proud of her heptathlon achievement.

Finland's best chance for a silver (that I can see at the moment, because there are only the next few events for Finland displaying at the moment) is in women's kayak singles tomorrow. There's a likely bronze in the men's 49er class this afternoon, but silver is nearly impossible for Finland in that race because Australia (almost certain gold) and New Zealand (almost certain silver) have such big margins between themselves and Finland (as well as between each other).
