The team who never made it
Re: The team who never made it
Dome looks like it had a skyward potential. if they had the sponsors to enter, they probably would've had a great run. the maybe could have kept Mugen in the game for a few extra years longer than Jordan could.
EDIT::
looking at this picture, it appears they tried before '96/'97. note the 1992, 1993, and 1994 cars that look up to FIA specs of those seasons.

Yup, they were used in Formula Nippon, and the reason why they look so much like contemporary F1 cars is that the maybe wanted to test out different configurations for the upcoming F1 car.

Oddly enough, I was asked the same question via PM at GPM2World (which is working again, at least until the unevitable domain expiration)...
Thing is, we'd need 13 teams for a mod like that, and while you can easily find info about the more famous projects like Dome, DAMS or Honda's two separate 1990s attempts, most of the projects are only ever mentioned by a name. There might be a picture of a planned car and the name of the main person behind the project, but staff info etc. is almost always sorely lacking. And that's before we start thinking about attaining enough pictures for the menus and filling all 78 driver slots...

So if even Hattori could come that close, I reckon it would've been perfectly possible for them to qualify in 1997 with, say, Nakano.

Thought as much. Nakano would easily find about a second. A shame they didn't try and enter in the end.

As Naoki Hattori was pretty ordinary in Indy Lights and a backmarker in Indy Car. In fact, Nakano probably could have found two seconds.

I am led to believe (from previous discussions of this car on this forum) that there was a fourth wheel under the rear wing...

That's right, it had two in-line wheels at the front and back that were steered, and the two in the middle which were powered.
What I love most about it is the enormous rear wing with all it's elements, like it's come straight off the back of the '84 Toleman!

in regards to dome & nakano if they entered and went for times they would of found more than 2 seconds imo. Stuff like better setup, car upgrades of some description etc etc all the usual stuff probably would of been around 4sec+ off pace ah well all ifs and buts

I've just found out about the ML Prototype from browsing the "car museum" at the Dome website. Searching for more information took me to this thread.
According to the Dome site, the car was designed for a proposed oval series:
1998 ML PROTOTYPE
A next generation formula car built for the oval course races to be held by Mugen.
http://www.dome.co.jp/e/museum/car_m/car_m33a.html
Sounds like a similar all-oval concept to EuroLights, which never got off the ground in Europe but for which Lola designed a chassis.

Actually I see the ML Prototype tested both on road courses (Suzuka and Motegi) and oval (Motegi) -

Re: The team who never made it
I can give you a rough translation, too much effort to type it all in to Google translate...(though I used it for some individual words...)
F3000: The Spanish team gave a presentation yesterday in Albacete, where they have established their base. The team are working on a future project supported by national technological companies.
Bravo: Obsessed With F1
The F3000 team Bravo have made an official presentation in Albacete, a city that has a lovely permanent circuit and will serve as a base for the team whose sponsors are Caja de Ahorros de Castilla-La Mancha, Ajusa, Tudor and Trappatoni. Meanwhile, Carmen Bustamente, the mayoress of Albacete, presided over the event.
"We have established ourselves here in Albacete because here there are lots of facilities" said Jaume Magrans, general director of Bravo. "Our objective is clear: have a car in 5 years time made in Spain with the aid of our Spanish technological partners. We know that we wanted to be in F1 for 1993, but it just wasn't possible."
There are a lot of factors, and this is one of the most important: we're not here to make up the numbers. There are a lot of rule changes and with some delays to the project it is impossible to get our car ready for the first races. This has led us to rethink and wait for another year."
It is worth noting that Bravo has entered this season's International Formula 3000 Championship, a (something about the world) and that their star driver is the Catalan Jordi Gene, who was at the event.
That's as much as I can do now...perhaps someone who's actually Spanish could have a go.
