2008, Rubens Barrichello!
I know I am late on this! He lugged the thing to 3rd place in Silverstone, I just hope unreliability won't screw him over.

If winning on your debut race last season wasn't enough, how about winning the championship for real next year?Boy,did KazNak do exactly that, playing the consistency cards in an epic battle with Piquet Jr.,Nick Heidfeld and Giancarlo Fisichella. However, you wouldn't really put Fisichella as a battler,as he got off to a slow start of the season only to come alive later in the season.Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel had one or two good drives, but did bathplug all after that.Which meant that,in the final race,it came down to three:Heidfeld,Nakajima and Piquet Jr..Piquet could hope for a downslide for the other two while he would gain during the race, but all that was thrown out the window when Red Bull gave David Coulthard a few too many wings, which caused him to crash into Piquet, ending both of their races. This left Nakajima and Heidfeld to duke it out for the win,but they were surprisingly off form, losing positions and at one point it seemed like Piquet might win the championship.Eventually,Nakajima pulled back a few spots to win the title, while Heidfeld fell back to third, promoting Piquet Jr. to second.

Re: F1 Hard Charger Award
I'll stick with Fisichella for 2009. Force India were usually towards the back in qually but he often finished in midfield (Spa excepted), and he was usually qualifying low down with Ferrari too.

2009? This will be a wide-open season in my opinion with the likes of Force India, Toro Rosso, Renault and BMW Sauber all looking like major contenders for the throne. And after much deliberation, I'll follow your lead and pick Fisichella.

Guys, don't expect much updates for quite a time.My internet is bathplug all on the computer where I do my projects on(i.e,Alternate F1 History, this series) and the computer I'm typing on is a Mac, which I am too unfamiliar with to operate until god knows when. Also, this keyboard has the "w" key broken, meaning that all the 'w's you see, including that one,are all copy/pasted,making things even more tedious. Finally,I have a trip to the US for the first bit of December as well.Hoping that the computer at my grandparent's house there is good enough to continue doing this series.

Poor Timo Glock. He had the perfect mid-season schedule, almost managed to tie the record for most wins in a season and leading the championship by a comfortable margin,he crashed in qualifying in Japan and was left out for the final three races, effectively costing his championship to Giancarlo Fisichella, who captured his second title driving for two teams this season:Foce India and Ferrari. To top off losing the championship,Toyota quit F1,effectively placing Glock in unfamiliar machinery for next season, probably ruining his title hopes for future titles. Also, one has to feel for Sebastien Bourdais.Despite being in a real position to take the championship after Germany,he was fired for unknown reasons in Toro Rosso, and could not find a seat anywhere else.Toro Rosso were probably left Rosso-faced when replacement Jaime Algesuari did bathplug all and Bourdais' total was enough to capture third overall despite completing only half a season.

Re: F1 Hard Charger Award
Guys,I think 2010 might be the best season yet.
About 4 or 5 drivers have come to the final round in Abu Dhabi in contention to take the Hard Charger award, trying to chase the lead driver about 5 positions ahead from his nearest contender. Then,he completely blows his chance of winning and ends up in a three-way tie for second (which will have to be broken to determine the medal positions),with one of the tied drivers having not participated in at least 3 races before the final round.

Oh god.Lotus-Renault-Genii-Enstone just pulled a HRT.With Nick Heidfeld exciting the crowds with his fabolous display at the wheel,Lotus-Renault-Genii-Enstone decided to replace him at first for two races, which can aleardy be enough to unsettle a preson's chances of winning,to sacking him for the rest of of the season. And mind, you, his teammate got the exact opposite of the Nick Heidfeld would have got had he attended the second half of the season.Instead,he had to sit on his couch watching a television screen. This left four drivers with a clear chance of winning:Kamui Kobayashi, doing his best not to blow it again,Jaime Algesuari, looking for two on the trot,Sebastien Buemi, doing impressively with a vision obscurer of a nose, and Jerome d'Ambrosio, proving that he is not just a tin of custard.
Kamui was leading the quartet, but like last year,he blew it.But not exactly big time,as he left a few races to banzai back up the order again. This left the man with one of the most complicated surnames in the history of Formula One to lead. No,that surname was not Algesuari. It was d'Ambrosio who took the championship lead with 57 heading into Abu Dhabi. The Algesaurus was close on 55,and Buemi was giving his teammate a boost at 51.At Abu Dhabi...nothing much happened.Apart from Kobayashi banzaing the field. At Brazil it all worked according to plan for d'Ambrosio, gaining four positions to cement his top spot.Algesuari could do nothing at Interlagos and neither could Buemi. But Kobayashi did, stealing third from Buemi like candy from an eleven-year old O-level graduate.Seems like a lot of effort, turns out to be simple at the end.And watching the TV was Nick Heidfeld, probably flipping tables, ladders, chairs and plenty of birds in the general direction of Team Enstone.

Re: F1 Hard Charger Award
There was a bit more attrition this year than last so I can't see past one of the bottom three teams for the award. I'd say from outside them, Vergne has the best chance.

Well, Senna usually qualified badly but managed to score points on a regular basis.

F1 Chargers - Yet Another F1 Stats Game
Hello folks, long time no see!
I just came up with this idea of an alternative championship based solely on positions gained/lost in the race. To be more precise - the difference is what matters.
This is the championship that sorts the chargers from solid runners from slow coaches.
I have no concept of a search bar, so I don't know if this was done before.
For the time being, let's see what Australian Grand Prix brings.
Rolex Australian Grand Prix 2014
1st place goes to Valtteri Bottas! (+10)
A sensational race that, despite some problems, puts him in the lead of this little championship with 10 positions gained.
2nd place is a joint effort of Jenson Button and, uh... Esteban Gutierrez?
(+7)
Jenson Button has made it through the midfield to take 4th place, and after Ricciardo's disqualification 3rd place - a total of 7 positions from his starting point of 10th. Esteban Gutierrez on the other hand was none the worse, keeping his Ferrari-powered Sauber on the track for a total of 56 laps, right behind his new team-mate, Adrian Sutil.
3rd place was taken by Mexico's favourite - Sergio "El Checo" Perez! (+6)
The other of two Carlos Slim's proteges took it upon himself to keep up with Nico Hulkenberg and redeem himself from an abysmal 2013 season with McLaren. The actual result is not that impressive, as El Checo eventually finished 10th and scored the sole last point, but when doing so he managed to ram through the field from 17th to 11th, and with Daniel's exclusion, gained one more position on the way.
4th - Kimi Raikkonen/Max Chilton (+4)
5th - Nico Rosberg/Kevin Magnussen/Adrian Sutil (+2)
6th - Fernando Alonso/Nico Hulkenberg (+1)
----
7th - Daniil Kvyat (-1)
8th - Jean Eric Vergne (-2)
STR drivers are the sole two finishers that lost positions on their way to score a total of 6 points and giving Red Bull junior team a fine looking start of the season.

I just came up with this idea of an alternative championship based solely on positions gained/lost in the race. To be more precise - the difference is what matters.

Re: F1 Chargers - Yet Another F1 Stats Game
To keep the ball rolling between the races, I'll do some retrospective F1 Chargers. Because there is a total of 53 drivers this season (with most of them being Indy 500 entrants), I will limit the standings to the top 10... for now. I have the whole season on a spreadsheet, but I can't be arsed enough to write it all down
1950 Drivers' Championship
1. Louis Rosier (+34)
2. Johnny Claes (+31)
3. Peter Whitehead (+26)
4. Bob Gerrard (+17)
-. Lee Wallard (+17)
6. Phillippe Etancelin (+16)
-. Emmanuel de Graffenried (+16)
8. Gene Hartley (+15)
-. Johnny McDowell (+15)
10. Prince Bira (+14)

Re: F1 Chargers - Yet Another F1 Stats Game
As it turns out, WaffleCat has already done a very similar alternative championship.
Eurosport broadcast for the 1990 Mexican GP prequalifying:
"The Life, it looked very lifeless yet again... in fact Bruno did one, slow lap"

Re: F1 Chargers - Yet Another F1 Stats Game
I knew there was a championship like that already.
In that case I'd rather have my thread merged with WaffleCat's, if I may
