That's how Kyle Larson got into the catchfence injuring a couple dozen people was with someone hitting the leader's car into a spin. If it were a driver in a one-off or part time ride like Trevor Bayne, Mark Martin, Michael Waltrip, or Regan Smith that might have ended quite differently with a dozen cars wrecked somewhere on the track. Of course, Mark Martin would be the least likely to spin a driver out of those four, but if it was a driver more out for a win than the championship it would have been quite different.

I find Johnson as the most boring driver in all of racing quite possibly of all time.

One week later on a track that requires some skill, Danica is P40 and runs mid pack all day. Sad part was the headlines just said Danica unhurt after massive wreck" no word on Edwards victory until much later. Even though I really hate Edwards, good to see him win again. And really, can we revisit the yellow line rule please? How was Denny's pass legal?

I haven't followed NASCAR that closely since mid-2005, but wasn't the yellow-line rule only applicable at Daytona and Talladega? Or did that change?

The double yellow line rule is only applicable on the superspeedways (Daytona and Talladega) PIR's turn 3 is like a kink, so you can drop from the banking to gain some advantage. The only turnover is that the exit speed is so high that you're forced to brake early in the 4-5. JJ took advantage of that to be on par of Hamlin and winning the 2nd spot over the line.
And following Danicamania, remember that she's still a rookie in the Sprint Cup, even with some races last year. Hell, JJ took part in the NWS race to understand the new tires and that pay dividends. I'm not defending her, but there're days when even the great drivers of the field can't do a thing (JPM had several like Danica's, and not forget that Edwards had a 70+ races without a win until yesterday)

Danica got plain out ran over by David Ragan when her tire blew out running 27th, and Ryan Newman in a nearly identical car blew not one but two right front tires. P40 when the teammate finishes 41st causing two cautions isn't far from impressive, but something was seriously wrong with those Stewart Haas cars burning up tire beads left and right.

Yeah, but in order to burn the tire beads up like that, you have to be moving fast enough to actually burn them up!! She ran below 30th the whole race when the tire blew out and David Ragan was just the next poor sap to find her on the front straight. He really had no other options other than to let the momentum play itself out.
The same guy set up Newman's car and Danica's car, none of the other Hendrick Chevys (and I'm calling them what they are, not "Stewart Haas") had that problem. Does that excuse Danica from running like crap? No, because Newman was at least competitive until he smashed the wall the first time. There's a problem when not only are you going too slow to break the car, but your teammates are all running at the front and you're hanging with people whose yearly budget matches your race-by-race budget.

It certainly doesn't mean Danica was doing well if J.J. Yeley is averaging a finish about 4 positions above her and was probably not far away from the car at the time of the wreck or the fact that Casey Mears started 3 positions behind Danica and finished 14th. Considering how slow the car was in qualifying (40th) and slow it was in practice (around 40th in both long and short runs), 27th was asking quite a bit out of a car that had no business being above 30th at anytime in the race considering the problems in that #10.

I know the rule, but really it should be changed. No way Hannibal Hamlin's move should have been legal (although it took balls to hold it like that).
And yes Danica is a rookie, but the way the media acts shes a 12-time champ. The local paper on Sunday had ON THE FRONT PAGE a story talking about how female enrllments are up in the auto mechanics program at our community college. The sole reason. according them? Danica, and more specifically her "breakig new ground". Too bad dozens of women have been racing (much more successfully) for years. Courtney Force WON the NHRA Arizona Nationals last week. No media mentions at all. Courtney Force also hasn't done 5 or 6 semi-nude photo shoots. Wonder if that has anything to do with it......

Since PIR is the only oval that has that particular kink, is the exception of the rule, and as you said, as long as it develops some gutsy moves and epic finishes, it will be allowed (for NASCAR the rule is "entertainment first, racing second, wrecks as a bonus!")
The great advantage Danica has over the rest of the girls in racing is the coverage. Danica was in the right time, in the right moment to spur the Danicamania. Leading the Indy 500 with authority and winning an international event outside US hometurf (Japan Indy 300) did the job. That and the fact that the US is desperately looking for a figure outside the usual faces (the people don't want another JJ title a-la Schumacher in F1, Jr. is still lacking the killing instinct that the Intimidator had, Smoke is... well, smoke, Kyle Busch needs to take off the "Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde" attitude, BK needs tons of humble pie and Edwards don't have the luck to win a title in Sprint Cup, only to name some of the ususal suspects in NASCAR)

The track was redesigned to allow such moves at Phoenix and with the car redesign; such moves will damage the downforce generating splitter thus explaining why Hannibal Hamlin had to wait for the last lap to do such an aggressive move. Danica Mania is everywhere now and it is getting tiring if she's being out ran by J.J. Yeley (who has never won in NASCAR's top series) in the points.

The problems in the #10 are more driver-related than car-related in my opinion. The Stewart-Haas (or Hendrick Jr., take your pick) cars have been pretty damn good so far this year, and Danica's 40th place qualifying effort was the only time an SHR car has qualified outside the top-10 so far. Sure, Newman had his troubles in the race, but that can be attributed to the different tire compound Goodyear brought to the track that weekend. It's understandable that people are giving Danica a bit of leeway considering she's a rookie, but she under-performed horrendously at Phoenix even by those standards. Only time will tell if this is how the rest of Danica's season will go, aside from superspeedways.

The fact that the last time Danica raced at Phoenix in the previous generation car where she was just outside of the top 10 towards the tail end of the race suggest the talent is there, and makes the poor results even more baffling.

Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch are as flakey as dandruff, sorry. In Stewart's case, it's an act he's put on since his IRL days... he can talk tough but it's always in a very media friendly, flakey manner. Kyle Busch is a reincarnated, far less talented version of Darrell Waltrip, he's turned crying into a very media friendly art. Kurt, on the other hand, is such a toolbag that his douchiness is actually awesome. Every time Kurt Busch rages, I expect the Looney Tunes theme to be played afterwards.

Smoke knocked the teeth out of an Aussie dirt racer with his helmet a few years back, and Rowdy damn near tried to kill Ron Hornaday in the Truck series. I'd say their "act" is being nice to the media, which of course Kurt doesn't do lol. But thankfully we have this many personalities in NASCAR. When I started watching it was Senior and a bunch of corn flakes. Thank God times have changed.

When did you start watching?
When I started it was:
Dale Earnhardt, he could be a total dick on the track but I always got the impression that off the track he wasn't that bad off the track.
Rusty Wallace
Ernie Irvan, fast driver but he would crash a lot.
Jeff Gordon, who was a personality in and of himself just because he was young, fast, and the antithesis of Earnhardt and Wallace)
Sterling "car run good" Marlin
Awesome Bill From Dawsonville, I need not elaborate.
Morgan Shepherd, who overcame illiteracy and extreme poverty and even when I started watching NASCAR he was older than dirt.

The Waltrips both being asshats in the midfield/back of the grid.
Kyle Petty because he's the heir to King Richard's throne.
That Indycar guy who has the most nasal voice ever, John Andretti.
Terry Labonte, the Iceman. Lived up to his name on the track because nothing intimidated him.
Jimmy Spencer, he ran in the midfield and sometimes randomly wrecked someone. They didn't call him Mr. Excitement for nothing...
..and that's really it for your big personalities. If you found any of them unlikable, you had Mark Martin, but if he was too exciting for you, you rooted for Dale Jarrett because aside from being Ned Jarrett's son, he is (yes, is, not was) about as interesting as white bread.
This, by the way, is how I saw it when I first started watching NASCAR. I was 5.

Fixed. (although those commercials were pretty funny)
Dale Jarrett is my favorite NASCAR driver ever. Easily. He's an awful commentator, though.

Ward Burton was a rookie in 1994 that was also the peak of Jimmy Spencer in NASCAR when he won two races that year.

Late 1993, my first race was the Talladega race where Neil Bonnett flipped into the fence.
Also, NASCAR has officially gone BATSH*T INSANE.

I wouldn't blame Hamlin if he never paid that fine. That's the most ridiculous fine I have ever heard of. NASCAR really needs to act on his words rather than condemn them if it wants to make great racing for the fans.

It's not like Denny Hamlin has the tirades of the Busch Brothers or anything. If this was Jimmie Johnson saying this, I bet there'd be no fine.

My dad brought up an interesting point, it's that scenarios like this and Clementsgate will make the drivers scared of the media, to the point where they all give Jimmie Johnson-esque interviews post race, no matter what the question is or actively avoid talking to the press.
If it was Kyle Busch there would be no fine, either. If it was Danica Patrick there would be no fine, but that's partly because the post race interview would be so damn long that nobody would have caught her constructive criticism -- they'd all have fallen asleep 5 minutes into her interview. I'm serious, Danica's favorite sound is her own voice, it's on the Mansell level of loving your own voice, except with less complaining and more rambling.

Kyle Busch got fined for off track speeding where he went 130 in a 55 and has even been suspended for the Hornaday wreck so I'd suspect Busch would be suspended instead at this point. Danica is the certain golden goose that one can't even fine without media outrage at NASCAR.

Both of those were situations where NASCAR was forced to do something about him otherwise they would have gotten a huge backlash from the media...

Once again I say, make the yellow line rule apply at all tracks, please! Was anyone NOT cutting the front straight? Why not just use the grass? What the hell?
Watching the Vegas race, it occurred to me how much Danica is like Jeff Gordon was when he started:
1.) Both are famous for their looks (Gordon was a suntanned Cali pretty boy, and Danica loves to strip in front of cameras)
2) Both started off in the best cars on the grid (Hendrick and Stewart, I mean Hendrick)
3.) Both get/got CONSTANT media attention (I seem to recall stupid "Gordoned pooped today!" stories in the 90s like Danicas today)
4.) Both were openly cheating on their spouses for months and got a media pass for it
5.) Both Hate INDYCAR (Gordon because he never made it there due to "ride-buyers" and Danica who knows why, but she was introducing herself as a "NASCAR Driver" for years, Randy even talked to her about it)
6.) Both drove stupid bright cars (Day-glo and rainbow)
7.) Both are arrogant as can be off-track
If only she starts winning, they be almost the same.
Now as for characters in NASCAR when I started watching, there was more than senior, but not much you had:
1.)Senior
2.) Rusty - Seniors main rival
3.) Gordon - Pretty boy from Cali you loved to Hate
4.) Mark Martin - Awesome Grandpa
And thats it. Morgan Shepard I had much respect for, but he was dull. Irvine and the Waltrips were (and in the Waltrips case still are) morons who need to shut up, the Burtons are soooooo stupid and Klye Petty was just living off Dad's name. I grew up 10mins from Jimmy Spencer and he's a huge dick. Thinks he's a driving god and all must bow to him. No thanks.
Of course there is one other guy, who retired not long after, but was the man.........DICK TRICKLE!

Jeff Gordon hated those pay drivers that flood the back marker field and wasn't good enough to unseat Paul Tracy as a Penske development driver that's why he hates IndyCar.
