LONG LIVE MARUSSIA
Things I was wrong about:
Kimi to Ferrari, Perez out of McLaren, Maldonado to Lotus, Kobash comes back, Gutierrez stays, Chilton stays, Boullier leaves Lotus.
I stream Ustream, we all scream for PRC.

Rosberg would be the obvious prediction, but since Grosjean was very fast in free practice, I'm saying Grosjean.

Rosberg's not eligble any more, he won at China last year

Easy to forget, given Mercedes' race performance over the last two years.

Canadian Grand Prix
Jean-Eric Vergne picked up his maiden win, winning comfortably in Montreal. Paul di Resta scythed through the field to take second, increasing his lead in the championship. Sutil survived a late drive through to pick up third ahead of Perez and Grosjean. Bottas couldn't capitalise on his brilliant qualifying, and had to fend off a lacklustre Ricciardo. Bianchi, Pic and Chilton round out the points.

Adrian Sutil took the laurels in a dramatic race at Silverstone which saw the retirements of title contenders Romain Grosjean and Sergio Perez, as well as Jean-Eric Vergne. Vergnes teammate Daniel Ricciardo came second, with Paul di Resta putting in another barnstorming performance to take third, limiting the damage to his lead in the championship. Hulkenberg was best of the rest ahead of Bottas and Gutierrez, with Pic leading the charge of the new teams.

Re: The Wolfgang von Trips Memorial Trophy
German Grand Prix
Romain Grosjean put himself back in the title fight with a comfortable win in Germany. The Frenchman was in a class of his own all race, and utterly demoralised the opposition. Perez picked up a second, but doesn't have the pace to win at the moment. Last years champion Hulkenberg wrestled his poor Sauber to an incredible 3rd place at his home event, ahead of the surprisingly quiet Force Indias of di Resta and Sutil. Gutierrez and Bottas had lonely races in 6th and 7th respectively, with Pic, van der Garde and Chilton rounding off the points.

Re: The Wolfgang von Trips Memorial Trophy
Hungarian Grand Prix
Romain Grosjean put himself back in the lead of the championship following another runaway win Hungary, combined with Paul di Resta's retirement. Sergio Perez kept himself in contention with another second, while Nico Hulkenberg picked up another third, which sees him remain an outsider to retain his crown. Jean-Eric Vergne beat team mate Ricciardo home for 4th in the battle of the Toro Rosso's, while the high attrition saw Giedo van der Garde finish an impressive 6th, ahead of Pic, Bianchi and Chilton. Di Resta was classified 10th.

Nico Rosberg walked away with the title in a display of dominance, but that was not the Big News for the year. No, in a display of I don't know what, Bruno Senna managed to unrejectify himself in the HRT, and almost as impressively, Karun Chandhok got within a 6th of doing exactly the same. If that's not pant-wettingly fantastic, I don't know what is...

Generally, the WvT Memorial Trophy is a one-man show, year in, year out. However, once every few years, a truly brilliant season is served up for the long-suffering followers of the championship. 2009 was one of those seasons. Looking back, it seems bonkers to think that it took Webber until the final round to wrap up the title, and he probably would've secured it earlier if it weren't for the unreliabilty of his Red Bull. Meanwhile, Rosberg and Glock never quite had consistent race winning pace but kept on picking up 2nd's and 3rd's. In fact, with the teams arriving at Suzuka, there was just 4.5 points separating Rosberg (94m5), Webber (92) and Glock (90). Of course, Glock had that big crash which ruled him out and Webber went on to win the final two rounds, taking the title. Elsewhere, Kobayashi finished on the podium in every race he started (both of them!) and the almighty Luca Badoer picked up a point!

A real tale of tortoise and hare here. Admittedly, the tortoise was Nick Heidfeld, who was driving possibly the best car in the field (Kovaleinen's McLaren wasn't up to much for some reason). Anyway, while Kubica picked up win after win, Heidfeld was always picking up podiums, waiting for the Pole to slip. In fact, Heidfeld was so good at this that he was only 11 points shy of Kubica despite having 4 less wins. More importantly, somehow both Super Aguri's outscored Sutil despite only running 4 races. No-one's sure how....

Well, it would appear Lewisteria was well deserved. 13 wins, dropping just 34 points over the course of the season; fantastic stuff. Heidfeld came second again, story of his life. Kovaleinen did well to beat the highly-rated Kubica in the highly-rated BMW into 3rd. But enough of the boring stuff. Look at 8th place! Look! Sato! Super Aguri! 8th! My nipples explode with delight!

15. Christijan Albers (Spyker-Ferrari) 4 points
16. Sakon Yamamoto (Spyker-Ferrari) 3 points

14. Robert Doornbos (Red Bull-Ferrari) 6 points
15. Yuji Ide (Super Aguri-Honda) 3 points
16. Franck Montagny (Super Aguri-Honda) 1 point
As expected, Massa, having been given a Ferrari, promptly walked to the title with his only wobbly spell being the opening flyaway races, when Button appeared to have the upper hand. The Englishman was hampered by the Honda being less than perfect, and his charge was pretty much ended by a 5 race spell mid season when he picked up just 14 points, when Massa picked up 50 in the same period. Elsewhere, Bobby K made his debut and won in just his 3rd race, and Talent Yuji Ide managed to outscore both Montagny and Yamamoto. Again, god knows how...

Well, this was a funny old season. Plenty of unpredictable results and many race winners, but not much in the way of on-track action. To use a footballing cliché, it was a game, or season, of two halves. The first half of the season saw the Williams' of Webber and Heidfeld share the podium, along with Massa and Monteiro racking up points quietly and Button's Honda giving us a pyrotechnics display every fortnight. The net result was that after 9 races, the standings were;
1. Webber 50 points
2. Massa 48 points
3. Heidfeld 46 points
4. Monteiro 40 points
8. Button 11 points
However, in the second half of the season, BAR pulled their fingers out, resulting in Button winning 7 of the remaining 10 races, while Williams conspired to self-destruct and Monteiro continued to rack up little points, but he fell away quickly. Massa meanwhile kept on picking up podiums and with two races left, had a mathematical chance of taking the title. Of course, that went begging, and Button pulled off one of the great comebacks

14. Giorgio Pantano (Jordan-Cosworth) 9 points
15. Gianmaria Bruni (Minardi-Cosworth)
As you'd expect, this was a season-long Button-fest, interspersed with the odd bit of Jarno Trulli not falling asleep mid-race, Sato being banzai rather than bonsai and Massa preparing for 2005 by keeping the car on the track for more than 5 laps at a time. So all told, Buttons route to the title wasn't the hardest, but in fairness he still racked up 12 wins and really made a name for himself. Meanwhile, Hungary's finest had a brilliant season, culminating in a 3rd at Indianapolis en route to 10th in the Championship

Re: The Wolfgang von Trips Memorial Trophy
Right, t'would appear I've rather neglected this recently. Anyhow, here's a quick recap of the past 3 races
Belgium
An easy win for Grosjean, who never looked remotely threatened. Sutil came home second, with di Resta set for third before his contretemps with Maldonado. This promoted Ricciardo up to the final podium spot. Perez got 4th and Hulkenberg 6th.
Italy
Hulkenberg demonstrated his class by dominating the field, although he was helped by some less than perfect driving from his rivals; Mr di Resta, I'm looking at you. The Scot dented his title hopes by retiring after 3 corners, while Grosjean racked up a solid third behind Ricciardo. Perez got 4th again, with Sutil down in 7th.
Singapore
Perez took his first win since signing for McLaren (incidentally McLaren's first win since Hungary 2008), holding off Hulkenberg and Sutil. Neither Grosjean nor di Resta made it to the end, throwing the championship wide open again.
Anyway, after those 3 races, we still have a title fight on our hands thanks to Grosjean's misfortune. Perez, Sutil and Hulkenberg are all within striking distance of the Frenchman, with di Resta going from 19 points clear to 40 points behind in the space of 5 races.
1. Romain Grosjean (Lotus-Renault) 180 points
2. Sergio Perez (McLaren-Mercedes) 169 points
3. Adrian Sutil (Force India-Mercedes) 159 points
4. Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber-Ferrari) 155 points
5. Paul di Resta (Force India-Mercedes) 140 points
6. Daniel Ricciardo (Toro Rosso-Ferrari) 113 points
7. Jean Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso-Ferrari) 103 points
8. Valterri Bottas (Williams-Renault) 92 points
9. Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber-Ferrari) 82 points
10. Charles Pic (Caterham-Renault) 39 points
11. Jules Bianchi (Marussia-Cosworth) 33 points
12. Giedo van der Garde (Caterham-Renault) 27 points
13. Max Chilton (Marussia-Cosworth) 20 pts

Re: The Wolfgang von Trips Memorial Trophy
A quick of the last three Grands Prix, and what the championship now looks like
Korea
Grosjean returned to winning ways, and was thoroughly dominant. Hulkenberg's renaissance continued with a fine second, although he wasn't really troubled at all. Perez picked up third, with Gutierrez and Bottas rounding off the top 5. Neither Force India driver made it to the end, denting both of their title hopes.
Japan
At the daunting Suzuka circuit, Grosjean secured another serene win, putting him firmly on the path to championship glory. Hulkenberg continued his defiant defence of his crown with another fine second, ahead of teammate Gutierrez, who really put in a fantastic drive to third. Di Resta picked up points for the first time since the summer break in fourth ahead of Vergne and Ricciardo, and Sutil and Perez came 7th and 8th respectively.
India
Grosjean picked up his third win in a row and his 8th of an increasingly dominant season, laying one hand on the trophy in the process. Hulkenberg was set for more big points until the car gave up on him, elevating Perez to second and di Resta to third; his first podium since June. Sutil followed close behind in fourth, ahead of the two Toro Rosso's.
Championship Standings- 16 out of 19 rounds completed
1. Romain Grosjean (Lotus-Renault) 255 points
2. Sergio Perez (McLaren-Mercedes) 206 points
3. Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber-Ferrari) 191 points
4. Adrian Sutil (Force India-Mercedes) 177 points
5. Paul di Resta (Force India-Mercedes) 167 points
6. Daniel Ricciardo (Toro Rosso-Ferrari) 131 points
7. Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso-Ferrari) 122 points
8. Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber-Ferrari) 115 points
9. Valterri Bottas (Williams-Renault) 108 points
10. Charles Pic (Caterham-Renault) 48 points
11. Jules Bianchi (Marussia-Cosworth) 38 points
12. Giedo van der Garde (Caterham-Renault) 33 points
13. Max Chilton (Marussia-Cosworth) 24 points
Grosjean can wrap the title up in Abu Dhabi provided he finishes ahead of Perez and Hulkenberg doesn't outscore him by more than 15 points. So really, he has it sewn up

Abu Dhabi
Romain Grosjean wrapped up the 2013 WvT Memorial Trophy with a fine and dominant win under the floodlights in Abu Dhabi. The Frenchman spent nearly the entire race in control, and crossed the line nearly 40 seconds clear of his nearest challenger, picking up his 4th win in a row, his 9th of the season, and his 14th WvT victory. Paul di Resta's recent improvement continued, with the Scot finishing a fine second, with Sergio Perez beating Adrian Sutil to third. Yep, this race really followed the trend from the last few Grands Prix- Grosjean winning as he pleased, Hulkenberg transcending his car, Perez being solid, if not quick, and the rest of the field fighting over the scraps. The race did mark a breakthrough performance from Bottas however, and he has now closed right back up in the all-important battle for 7th in the championship.

Re: The Wolfgang von Trips Memorial Trophy - RoGro 2013 Cham
2014 Australian Grand Prix
Well.........the opening race of the turbo era saw a stunning battle between the two pre-season favourites, Ricciardo and Magnussen, won in the end the likeable Aussie in front of his home crowd. Until of course Mr Bauer inspected the RB10 and the FIA saw fit to disqualify Ricciardo, handing Magnussen a somewhat anti-climatic win on his debut. Valterri Bottas had a storming race, and picked second off Nico Hulkenberg in the dying stages of the race. Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kyvat did surprisingly well in the Toro Rosso's, coming 4th and 5th, ahead of Perez in 6th, with Sutil, Gutierrez and Chilton rounding off the finishers.

2. Valterri Bottas Williams-Mercedes 273 points, 5 win
3. Nico Hulkenberg Force India-Mercedes 211 points, 1 win

So with 3 races left, it's realistically a two-horse race now. Hulkenberg has dropped off the pace, but Magnussen and Perez have looked impressive recently. Vergne's another one that has upped his game, picking up his first podium in nearly a year in the process. Grosjean has dropped off again after looking briefly impressive at the start of summer but should have enough in hand to beat the Saubers.

2003
1. Kimi Raikkonen McLaren-Mercedes 124 points, 10 wins
2. Fernando Alonso Renault 89 points, 4 wins
3. Jarno Trulli Renault 70 points, 1 win
4. Mark Webber Jaguar-Cosworth 58 points
5. Jenson Button BAR-Honda 55 points
6. Cristiano da Matta Toyota 54 points
7. Nick Heidfeld Sauber-Petronas 42 points
8. Giancarlo Fisichella Jordan-Cosworth 29 points, 1 win
9. Antonio Pizzonia Jaguar-Cosworth 22 points
10. Ralph Firman Jordan-Cosworth 19 points
11. Jos Verstappen Minardi-Cosworth 17 points
12. Justin Wilson Minardi/Jaguar-Cosworth 13 points
13. Marc Gene Williams-BMW 8 points
14. Takuma Sato BAR-Honda 5 points
15. Nicolas Kiesa Minardi-Cosworth 4 points
16. HWNSNBM Jordan-Cosworth 2 points
Raikkonenwinslol was the theme here, with Alonso picking up the scraps where possible. Fisichella finally picked up that elusive first win but the season on the whole was disappointing from his perspective. Webber, Button and da Matta were all unsung heroes as the season progressed, while Sato impressed in his one-off drive.
