The F1 Rejects Evolution Challenge.

Post by Shadaza »

Hello everyone, during my internet travels I have discovered an interesting website:
http://rednuht.org/genetic_cars_2/

The basic premises is 20 "cars" (Two spinning connected wheels) are placed onto a "track" (an increasingly difficult line course) and the cars must attempt to get as far as possible. The script learns what the most successful cars are and they are genetically mutated a little to see if they can get a little further along the course, so fantastically the field improves (or at least should) gradually with each generation.

The course is generated from seeds and would be the same course for any specific string of numbers and letters, so here is the challenge, enter the seed "Silverstone" and try and beat my record. If enough people are interested I can get a proper series going, the beauty is this takes very little time as the Ai does all the work for you, you can just control variables such as mutation rate and number of "Elite" clones.

After the first 50 generations this is my record, 155.88 Metres. There is a nasty bump at 151 metres and so far progress from there has proved very slow for me, but maybe you guys can do better!

I'm running Silverstone right now. That bump at 114....

EDIT: 155.04 for Usergname Motorsports! That's my entry for this round and I'm sticking to it.

I think I am addicted to this program, I have it running in the background.

I have a feeling this software does not want any cars making 200 metres, the course becomes a complete joke!

It's strange - using my username as a seed to generate the cars means big wheels (good) but very jagged shapes for the bodywork (bad).

What seems to be the biggest hindrance, though, is that all the cars are being driven by Jeremy Clarkson. I can even hear the shouts of "POWER!" coming from them all with a flagrant disregard for the terrain, meaning most of them will flip over backwards rather than progressing.

All hail my marvellous creations! I've managed to crack the two-ton. Use the seed "destroythemothership" and run it until a seemingly impassable U-shaped pit appears. I've had one car over it (gen#329 out of a total of 828) for a total distance of 209.78 metres.

And then the terrain breaks up into an Antarctic crevasse field...
